in the mail bag tonight, there is sadness over the tragic death over 28-year-old prince georges police officer kevin bowden killed in a horrendous car accident yesterday afternoon but this would be the second prince georges officer to meet the fate in the last few months, neither man wearing a seat belt and johnson chantilly said there's tough questions that
7:26 pm
must be asked. it's truly asked that p.g. county lost two apparently fine police officers in the last few months in car accidents but i got to ask, police officers are supposed to enforce laws and in maryland, seat belt use is required for all passengers in the front seat of a vehicle. the result of noncompliance with the law is painfully obvious. we must acknowledge there's many who may seem to say the wreck was so serious, the officer may have been killed regardless whether he was belted or not but similar sentiments from bill in martinsburg, west virginia. so sorry for the car crashes. why weren't they buckled up? it's the law, right? these same officers wrote tickets to people for not having people buckled. do they think they're above the law? i will not presume the judge the officer's mental state, but the justification for the reluctance of some officers to wear seat belts sounds similar
7:27 pm
to the excuses civilians use. it will slow me down, hard to get out in an emergency, et cetera. it's a bunch of nonsense since we know the likely deadly emergency behind the wheel of a crash and when that happens, being slowed down by seat belt is what the doctor ordered and prescribed the mail bag. mailbag@wusa9.com. that's our broadcast. i'll see you tonight at 11:00.
