thank you for joining us. i'm jessica doyle, in for jacket. jeakd. j. c. hayward. joggers on the capital crescent trail from bethesda are concerned about what happened here around 7:00 sunday night. a 21-year-old attacked and

sexually assaulted on her evening jog. >> i'm turned, actually. i felt secure. lots of cyclists. i have never given it a thought. >> i drive on this trail three or four times a week and never felt unsafe at all but definitely makes me kind of second guess. >> this woman stopped for a few seconds to allow deer to cross the trail, but those few seconds was all it took for somebody to come up from behind. hit her on the head, knocking her unconscious. >> she awoke sometime later, off the trail, and was able to get back to the trail. thankfully a 40-year-old male jogger was passing by. >> reporter: the victim is still in the hospital, recovering from serious head trauma. but she was able to give a description of her attack tore police. a white male, mid-20s, wearing dark clothing.

until he is caught, police are asking all joggers, especially women, to take extra precautions. >> i would consider running at different times. >> try to find somebody to walk with me now my dog is too sick to go every morning. >> i will go out i'm sure but be more cautious. >> reporter: kristen fisher, 9 9news. if you have any information in this case please reach out to montgomery county police at 1-866-411-tips. the search for mark hill roth resumes today. this morning investigators fanned out across capital heights to talk to neighbors about what happened. he was shot and killed september 11th while on the way to school. early voting begins in the district today. you can vote until 7:00 p.m. there is one early voting center in each ward. for the exact locations, you can go to our website at wusa9.com.

johnson was on duty when he hit the car of lawrence gardner jr. johnson's blood alcohol was three times the normal limit. the man accused of tossing a molotov cocktail in the middle of a bris i mall makes a court appearance today. leon trail is expected to appear in federal court at a detention hearing. he faces arson charges after last thursday's incident in arlington. the bomb did not ignite. no one was hurt. after officers took trail into custody, police say they found even more explosive materials. police are investigating a shooting in southeast dc. this was the scene just before 3:00 this morning along 27th street southeast near texas avenue. authorities say the victim was shot in the chest. medics rushed him to the hospital in critical condition. here's an effect of the soft economy you may not have

thought of. the number of homeless students in fairfax county public schools may have hit a record breaking high. the washington post reports that the count of homeless students may soon top 2500. school officials say at least 400 of the students, classifieds ahomeless, are children who live without parents or guardians. experts believe the rising number of homeless students is tied to the effects of the recession. still to come, when the news continues, j.c. hayward salutes an organization that helps achieve the american dream. but first, lance armstrong stripped of the seven victories that made him an american cycling hero

welcome back. the international cycling union dealt lance armstrong a career ending blow today, deciding to

take away his title. as tina krause reports, armstrong could also be stripped of his olympic medal. >> reporter: the international cycling union says tour de france champion lance armstrong has no place in cycling. >> uc i will ban him from cycling and strip him of his seven tour de france medals. >> the decision accuses armstrong of being involved in the most sophisticated and successful doping cover-up the sport has ever seen. investigators say he used performance enhancing drugs, and dodged detection with blood transfusions. armstrong denies ever doping, arguing he passed hundreds of drug tests. he joined 4000 cyclists over the weekend if a ride to fight cancer. >> people ask me a lot how are you doing? i tell them well, i have been better. but i have also been worse.

>> the cancer survivor recently stepped down at chairman at livestrong charity and several sponsors pulled their support. the international cycling organization said it is determined to keep the sport clean and thanked armstrong's teammates who testified against him. >> cycling has a future and something like this must never happen again. >> reporter: the organization said it would not give armstrong's victories to the runners up because so many of those riders had been linked to doping as well. officials said there would simple pli be a hole in the record books. tina krause, cbs news. the world antidoping agency has three weeks to decide when it will appeal the ruling. the international olympic committee is also reviewing armstrong's case and may strip him of the bronze medal he won at the 2000 games in sid any.

there are about 2.5 million native americans in this

country and about a quarter of them are catholic. now they can celebrate a saint of their very own. >> reporter: known as lily of the mohawks, she became the first native american saint sunday in a ceremony celebrated by pope benedict xvi. born in 1656 to a mohawk father and a christian mother, she was disfigured and partially blinded by smallpox. she was persecuted by her tribe when she converted to christianity at 20. the vatican says she cured this native american boy of a flesh eating bacteria in 2006, thanks to his parents prayers. on sunday he was one of few who received communion from the pope. 300 years after her death, many
