of 15-year-old malala yousafzai, the young girl who spoke out against the taliban. cnn reports the main suspect is not in custody. however, officials have arrested the fiance's mother and brother in connection with the attack. malala became a symbol of courage after being shot in the head for demanding an education. she's currently being treated for her injuries in england. the securities and exchange commission has opened and informal insquarery into the district of -- inquiry into the district of columbia's office of chief financial oimp. the cfo's office says the fec is seeking copies of all internal -- fcc is seeking copies of all internal audits from 2010. the cfo was recently criticized for his failure to release audits that uncovered problems in the office. several respect departmentses at an apartment building on north van dorn street were forced out of their homes because of a carbon

monoxide leak. alexandria fire crews discovered high carbon monoxide levels in three amounts around 6:30 this morning. -- three apartments around 6:30 this morning. two people living in the building were taken to the hospital for poisoning. residents living at the willow run apartment complex have been allowed to return to their homes. a woman who crashed into a squad car and tried to run over an officer will go before a judge for a bond hearing in less than an hour. she led police on a high speed chase yesterday from walter reed national military medical center in bethesda to rockville. 27-year-old angela cobbold of manassas was spotted making a u- turn at walter reed yesterday morning. while she was stuck in traffic, department of defense officers approached. cobbold saw them, took off and hit a car. she eventually returned to walter reed. officers spotted her, stopped her, and when she refused to put down her window, he broke

the rear window with his baton. that's when she backed into his cruiser and took off. she came across another officer and she drove her car at him. that officer fired at her. she eventually crashed her car and she was arrested. this year d.c. has raked in some record profits for speed camera citations. and we've got the list of the top 10 locations where the tickets were issued. kristin fisher has more from a roadway that has cost drivers in the district of columbia nearly $24 million in speed camera tickets over the last year. >> reporter: 295 in northeast washington is the most ticketed road in all of d.c. it accounts for more than a quarter of all the speed camera tickets issued in the city. why? >> most people think it is an interstate highway or a u.s. highway by its design and the

number of lanes. but they're being fooled. they have fooled themselves. >> reporter: this speed camera at 295 and benning road is the fourth busiest speed camera in the city. over the last year it issued more than 36,000 tickets -- 46,000 tickets for a whopping $5 million in revenue. if 295 looks like a freeway, people drive on it like a freeway. in some sense isn't it a little until fair to have this many speed cameras on this stretch of roadway? >> the other question is whether the speed limit should be evaluated or reevaluated on 295. >> reporter: four of the top ten speed camera locations are on 295, including the top two. the others are on missouri avenue, porter street and 16th street northwest, new york avenue in northeast, and independence avenue and branch avenue in southeast. together these top ten account for half of all speed camera tickets. that's nearly $42 million. not to mention all the money

outbreak. officials say their preliminary investigation has found problems with cleanliness and sterilization. there were specks of fungus in sterile medication. medication was not sterilized. drugs were also shipped before they were tested for contamination. the governor promise as crackdown on these facilities. >> the pharmacy board will immediately start periodic, unannounced inspections of compounding pharmacies that prepare sterile injectable medications such as those directly linked to the outbreak. these pharmacies will be inspected at least annually and more frequently in the case of a substantiated complaint. >> the new england compounding center says it is cooperating with investigators. but meanwhile more than 300 people have become ill and 23

people have died. today i'm one on one with dr. alex. she's the owner of the aesthetic dental spa in mclean. when i was a child, i remember fondly halloween, goal up and down the streets with a pillow case collecting lots and lots and lots of candy and then trying to eat all of it in one night. dr. alex says it can be fun for kids but it can also be terrible for their parents when they have to pay that dental bill. she's brought all this candy and i'm ready to start on it. >> for sure. you can have it so long as you follow a few simple rules. >> what are the tips? >> you want to make sure you have all the candy in one sitting. it's better to have it in one sitting than all day long throughout the day. avoid the sticky candies and hard candies because they sit in your mouth longer. have the candy with a meal. >> with a meal? >> it's probably better to have

the candy before a meal than afterwards for your teeth. make sure you drink water afterwards. make sure it's fluoridated water because it makes a big difference. a lot of times spring water and filtered water don't have fluoride in them. >> what about adults? we shouldn't drink regular water? >> adults are usually using tap water and they get fluoride. it's hard to find fluoridated water but they do sell it for kids. chewing gum is also good for 20 minutes after having something sticky or sugary. it helps wash out everything. makes a big difference. i chew a lot of gum. >> i didn't know that. >> it helps a lot. also you should brush your teeth afterwards. >> of course. >> it's important to brush your teeth. but if you brush twice a day, two minutes a day. half the kids only brush once a day. >> is this good candy? >> some of it is sticky. some taffy and stuff like that. those are going to be stickier

candies. kids are going to have candy, especially in and around halloween but it's important to follow the simple rules to make sure they don't get decay because of it. >> how often should they see their dentist? >> twice a year. >> when should the parents start taking a child to the dentist? >> as soon as they have teeth in their mouth to get them used to going in and getting used to going to the dentist. in the beginning we don't do much for a 2-year-old but they've got all their teeth. they get used to going to the dentist, get a toy. it starts good habits for the rest of their lives. >> you can have candy for halloween. just don't eat all of it at one time. >> don't have it all day long or 30 days every hour one piece of candy. >> dr. alex, we'll keep those tips in mind. now let's go to howard and get a forecast. >> dr. alex has me chewing the gum with the xylitol which is good for neutralizing the acids in your mouth. it's been a nice morning. we started in the 50s and 60s. we'll be about 80.

high today about 81 with a mix of sun and clouds. at times it may seem mostly cloudy, other times mostly sunny. these are high clouds take will not produce any showers. this evening if you have plans, light wind. 7:00 p.m. 74. and by 9:00 still about 70. this may be one of the last really good evenings we have before some cooler air moves in and we could get rather unsettled in the weekend early next week. this is a look at the clouds. a lot of high thin clouds coming acrossed region. while you may see a speck of green on the radar, that's where the beam is hitting the clouds really very high so i'm not expecting much to fall. temps in the upper 60s in the northern shenandoah valley. cumberland 170. culpeper already 81 degrees with more sunshine. fredricksburg 78. national, yes, reporting 68 degrees but we are going to jump quickly here with just a little bit of an off shore wind. there are the high clouds i'm talking about. partly sunny at reagan national. 68. winds nonexistent still. they've been light all day. humidity 65%. cold air is coming into the northern part of the country.

look at the 30s in the central and northern rockies. this stuff will move south and east. a lot of the country not only going to cool down and see mountain snows, this is going to set the stage for a big storm off shore early next week. we have the storm right now. it's sandy as a hurricane but it's going to transition to an extra tropical storm. i'll try to explain. we have the dip in the jet out in the west allowing the cold air to come in. the rain and mountain snows. ahead of it, though, the winds are out of the southwest in the upper levels of the atmosphere. that's why we're seeing temps 15 degrees above the seasonable averages in the mid-60s. as far as any big weather systems, in the short term just a passing cloud, high clouds. winds will shift around more to an easterly component as we get into tomorrow and friday. that's going to bring in a little cooler air off the atlantic. not as warm tomorrow, mid-70s. maybe partly to mostly cloudy by friday, upper 60s to low 70s. then we have to watch what happens in the tropics because we've got this hurricane. this is sandy just about on to jamaica. it will be there later this

afternoon. it will move to the north. winds now 830 gusting to a -- 80 gusting to a hundred. probably won't get too much stronger interacting with land. then it will transition from tropical to nontropical. this will have a large wind field as it moves off toward the north. the hurricane forecast between bermuda and north carolina. it keeps nudging it closer to the coast. there are some models that bring it almost up the coast early next week like starting late sunday into tuesday. we've got to watch this thing. not out of the woods yet. if it does head this way, it's not going to be pretty. 81 today. tonight 60. still not bad. 50s in the suburbs. 75 tomorrow. 72 on friday with an isolated shower. saturday a front comes, 68. sunday through tuesday just depends on exactly what sandy does. we're going to the kitchen. a little mexican when 9 news now returns.
