good morning. welcome back to 9news now. our time is 4:19. we're halfway through the week. more than halfway. >> feels like we've been here a week already. >> especially because you were working over the weekend as well giving us great information. and we appreciate it. keep it going. >> we still have more issues we're dealing with. not as many. now it's the discovery phase and we're still waiting for some of the waters seattle down. we heard from ko and kristin a few minutes ago, the potomac, the monocacy. goose creek is below flood stage. a lot of the smaller streams are starting to come down. still plenty of flood warnings and flood waters. let's get you started with a look at the river floodings. some of the latest information i was able to compile up in frederick, looks like about 21.8 or so, 21.9 is where it

crested. that happened just a little while ago. kristin has the high water up there but it's starting to slowly come down. looks like by this evening potentially that will be below flood stage. on the potomac at point of rocks, looks like it's going to be this evening now when we have crest. it's a little lower than what we were thinking yesterday but still about 5.1 feet about flood stage. that should be some minor flooding. that's better than moderate to major flooding. some moderate flooding on the wisconsin avenue gauge at the owe poe -- potomac. that will crest on thursday and make its way down toward georgetown. looks like the crest will be about two and a half feet or so above flood stage. that's moderate flooding there. some of the areas along the toe path may see some water. as far as the bus stop forecast, a lot of schools are back today. it's chilly this morning, cloudy. there's a stray shower or two out there upper 30s to low 40s. sunrise not until about 7:35. it will be in the 6:35, 6:40 time frame next week when we're dealing with the clocks coming

back. 42 at 8:00. again a possibility of an isolated shower. by noon mostly cloudy, 50. southwest winds 10 to 15. there will be windchills to contend with. 4:00 54. close to the high for the day. by 8:00 we're back down to 49. another night with lows in the 30s and 40s. it is also a special night for the little ones and not so little ones. your trick or treat forecast -- i went through that too fast. let's just look at it again, right? we have mostly cloudy skies tonight. could be a stray sprinkle. it's going to be cool, low 50s with windchills, though, in the 40s in spots. so you are really going to need to bundle up if you're going to be outside. we have snow falling in south central pennsylvania and especially the high country here in west virginia. there had been spots in garrett county seeing 26-inch snow totals. i've seen even higher than that across the mountains of west virginia. you'll see hagerstown north and west to cross junction in north frederick county some light

sprinkles. we've seen some near strasburg and the culpeper area. this is fairly light. baltimore is 41. easton 42 while winchester is 37 this morning. when you factor in the winds, we've got windchills in the mid- to upper 30s to low 0s out there. it -- low 40s out there. it does look like a breezy, chilly day. right now we have 43 degrees. good visibility in spite of the cloudy skies. south winds still at 5 miles an hour. that's about as low as they've been in a few days. humidity 82%. showers in maine. showers down in kentucky and ohio and this is one for the record books. our forecast today we're going to get into the low to mid-50s, breezy, stray shower. watch out for the high water still in spots. tonight it's going to be in the 30s and 40s. mostly cloudy skies. 55 tomorrow. again a little bit of a breeze out of the west. by friday 52. a little more sunshine. the weekend doesn't look too bad. could be a stray shower late sunday with 60. turn your clocks back. we're back in the mid-50s

monday and tuesday. it is 4:22. monika samtani, got to be doing better than yesterday. >> oh, yeah, definitely better than yesterday although we still have our fair share of issues, especially on the beltway in prince george's county. this is an ongoing accident on the inner loop near route 450 involving a tractor-trailer and an suv and a fuel spill. that's why it's taking so lon. it happened around -- so long. it happened around 1:30 this morning on the inner loop heading southbound here in prince george's county. you're going to need to stay to the left to get by the activity. although the volumes are light, you want to be careful with all the equipment on the scene. route 50 south to the parkway, inside the beltway to cheverly both are fine. we'll take a live look outside and show what you it looks like on the beltway. as you can see, volumes are very light. let's go back to our graphics. a couple of things i want to let you know. these are only some of the road closures. georgetown pike, old dominion drive, route 108 near mink

hollow, sligo parkway and beach drive linked to lights out or flooding problems. met toe normal service. -- metro normal service. amtrak modified service. north of that is going to be very tough for several days. i'll be back with more traffic at 4:33. we are now six days away from election day but neither presidential candidate has done much campaigning the past two days. sandy forced both men off the campaign trail. >> with the race at a virtual tie, they're working to strike the right balance between the fight of their political lives and the hardship that many americans are facing in the wake of the storm. tara mergener reports from the white house. >> reporter: president obama visited red cross headquarters in washington tuesday afternoon and spoke about the response to the storm. >> my message to itself federal government -- to the federal government, no bureaucracy, no red tape, get resources where they're needed as fast as possible, as hard as possible

and for the duration. >> reporter: working to put the recovery effort ahead of the impending election, the president canceled his campaign trip to ohio. he'll see storm damage and thank first responders in new jersey today. republican challenger mitt romney was in ohio tuesday collecting money and relief supplies for storm victims. >> i appreciate your generosity. it's part of the american spirit. the american way to give to people who are in need. and your generosity this morning touches my heart. >> reporter: from the white house, president obama has been calling the governors of storm ravaged states and one of romney's key supporters has been praising the president's leadership. >> his cooperation has been great with fema here on the ground and our intelligence center and the cooperation from the president of the united states has been outstanding. he deserves great credit. >> reporter: while the president remains in washington, he's getting help on the campaign trail from former president bill clinton. >> i have worked very hard in this election and i'm not running for anything.

>> reporter: clinton was in minnesota tuesday, a state where the race is tightening. he is expected to campaign in six battleground states for president obama before election day. tara mergener for cbs news, the white house. goor romney pls to be back on the campaign trail today with a swing through florida. early voting in the 2012 election was suspended for two days because of sandy. it will resume today in maryland at 8:00 a.m. and run until 9:00 p.m. and will be conducted in maryland until friday of this week. in the district meanwhile, early voting will also resume today and run through saturday. the hours in d.c. are 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 at night. residents in new york and new jersey begin the long process of cleaning up after sandy. >> while communities here in our region try to recover from flooding and downed trees. stay with us. 9news now returns in two minutes.
