learned about petraeus' affair with his biographer while they were investigating some harassing e-mails from another person. 9 news reporter is live on capitol hill and has what we're looking ahead to today. >> reporter: good morning. there continues to be plenty of drama and plenty of questions surrounding general petraeus' affair. we're learning more about the investigation and the woman on the receiving end of the e- mails of her name is jill kel yi. she received -- kelley. she and her family have been friends with the petraeuses for several years. broadwell saw kelley as a rival. as more details emerge, we're also learning more about the investigation into the

situation. members of the intelligence committee say they received no advanced notice that an investigation was even going on and they say this is a huge problem. >> this is something that could have had an effect on national security. i think we should have been told. there is a way to do it. >> it would have been very difficult to continue in his position if he had subordinates who might have engaged in similar activity. how would he deal with that? i know that was his thought process and at the end of the day he did do the right thing. >> reporter: on wednesday there will be meetings between the f.b.i. and intelligence committee leaders. again the focus, are there any national security implications here and also why weren't those leaders informed any earlier that this was even going on. andrea and mike? >> a lot more to come out. thanks a lot, preet i live on capitol hill this morning. prince george's county police are looking for a suspect after a murder in

lewisdale. the victim was shot early yesterday at the intersection of charleston place and drexel street. a 21-year-old died a short time later at the hospital. investigators are asking anyone with information about the shooting to give them a call. police are looking for a gunman who they say shot a talk cobel manager in columbia, maryland. howard county police say to men confronted the manager outside the restaurant on minstrel way early yesterday. they shot him several times. other employees called 911. the manager is now in the hospital in critical condition. police have not released the details on a motive for the shooting at this point. the investigation is still under way. a protest in florida was held on behalf of a maryland man from bethesda. demonstrators gathered in west palm beach where the national symphony of cuba was making its first u.s. tour. they're protesting the inprisonment of alan gross. he's serving a 15-year sentence on charges he was trying to undermine the cuban government. gross insists he was only trying to provide internet

service to cuba's small jewish community. it's 5:05. time for the latest your money report. >> jessica doyle is here with today's headlines. is it a day off for wall street as well? >> lots of workers today. we're hoping for a better week for wall street. we're coming off one of the worst weeks of the year. it was really terrible for wall street. major averages were down more than 2%. we did see a small rally on friday, though. checking the numbers the dow starts at 12,816 after adding four points. nasdaq added 9. s&p 500 was up by two. tomorrow congress will get to work avoiding the so-called fiscal cliff. that's a series of tax hikes and spending cuts that could cripple the local and national economy in order to reduce the deficit. president barack obama is inviting leaders from the labor and business communities to the white house this week for talks. the president and bipartisan congressional leaders will hold their first fiscal cliff meeting on friday. if you're looking to add fiber to your diet, you probably reach for fruits,

good morning. welcome back to 9news now. a holiday for a lot of you. it's a day that you'll be able to go out and enjoy whatever you like to do. rake leaves, jog, have coffee outdoors. >> one last warm day before reality setting back n. our average high is down to 59. yesterday we hit 71. a lot of areas topped into the low 70s yesterday. today we're likely to stay in the upper 60s thanks to increasing clouds. we'll probably stay in the low 50s the next few days. here's a look at your bus stop forecast. half day of school in some counties for teacher conferences. a partly cloudy, cool morning. 40s and 50s. sunrise not until about 6:48 and sets at 4:56 this afternoon. likely not going to see the sun set but i think we'll see the sunrise in many areas. with the midday temperature of 63. south winds at about 11 miles an hour. so a little bit of a breeze finishing the day overcast and

66 at 5:00 after topping out about 68 which is still very nice for this time of year. see a few clouds. high thin ones coming overhead. thicker clouds well out to the west. all of this is going to be advancing east. so the early sunshine and increasing clouds notice the temperatures big range. 41 in cumberland but with a little bit more after breeze and clouds. winchester 54. 55 in southern maryland but it's 49 at fredericksburg. 45 gaithersburg. baltimore is only 43. good visibility on our michael & son weather camera. a good hour and a half or so before the sunrise. calm winds. 50 at national with partly cloudy skies. the dew points are well up in the 40s now. we'll see more moisture head our way, low level with the winds kicking up out of the south. look at difference in temperatures across the country. bismarck is 9 while it's 60 in nashville. a strong front. kansas city 23. that front is helping to produce some showers, a few thunderstorms out to the west and southwest of us. a little bit of snow on the

back side. a little bit of snow in and around the chicago right now. the rain almost towards springfield, ohio, dayton, toledo, lexington, kentucky. this will be moving in our direction. it's probably going to take until tonight before it gets here. i don't think we'll see much before midnight here in town. a little earlier out west there. could be an isolated sprinkle out to our west during the afternoon. the bulk of the rain even at 5:00 just getting into pittsburgh. we'll see it march toward us. by noon -- midnight be headed toward us. mid night headed toward us. maybe a little bit of snow in the higher elevations mixing in before it passes. tomorrow morning some showers around, some heavier ones, too. the morning rush hour could certainly be impacted by this. but this stuff i think will get out of here pretty quickly so that by lunch time the sun is returning. clouds hanging out east. certainly a much cooler day tomorrow with high temperatures anywhere from the 40s and low 50s. temperatures just aren't going to move much with some pretty strong northerly winds behind the cold front. as we look at the forecast,

reconnect some customers. volunteers from d.c. and maryland spent the weekend helping residents of long beach island, new jersey. they're stacking up possessions which were ruined in the massive flooding. some local verizon employees are working on recovery efforts in new jersey. a convoy of verizon technicians left perryville, maryland to help restore internet service to victims of sandy. the technicians know how to rebuild communication systems from the ground up. congressional leaders say they want to know more about the timing of the investigation that led to the downfall of c.i.a. director david petraeus. the retired four-star general announced he was resigning on friday admitting to having an extra extramarital affair. preeti arla is live on capitol hill with more on the story as we look ahead to the investigation. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, mike. there is plenty of shock here on capitol hill when general petraeus announced his resignation in light of that affair. we're learning more about the investigation and the woman who

was on the receiving end of some harassing e-mails which is why this whole situation even unfolded in the first place. her name is joe kelley, a 37- year-old florida resident. she received the e-mail from general petraeus' girlfriend paula broadwell who appeared to see kelley as a romantic rival. she asked the f.b.i. to investigate the e-mails and that's what led to the investigation and the eventual resignation. members of the intelligence committee say yes, they were shocked by the news but also shocked that they didn't know about the investigation sooner. they said they received no advanced notice that that was even going o. some are calling for a full investigation but others are saying if there are no national security implications, then we should move on. >> his resignation is a loss for the country, but i understand why he had to resign. >> if there's no affect of the affair on national security, i think we need to move on. >> this is something that could have had an effect on national security. i think we should have been

told. there is a way to do it. >> reporter: on wednesday the f.b.i. will meet with members of the intelligence committee. again the focus on possible national security implications and why those members were not told about the investigation which is something that they are required to know about. but there are also lots of questions on capitol hill about the legacy of petraeus. he's obviously one of the best known generals of his generation. a lot of questions about that as well. so we'll have to continue to see how this unfolds and exactly what that investigation here on capitol hill will reveal. >> thank you. live on capitol hill this morning. an investigation is under way into the cause of a late night house fire in bealsville, maryland. the assistant fire chief scott gram tweeted out this photo of the fire. look how tall the flames are. the house a total loss. it's in a nonhydrant area that sits along beallsville road.

get off the couch. couch to 5k with jessica doyle. >> we are here with jessica. this is week nine of her couch to 5k training program. >> week nine of an eight-week program? >> that's right. howard's still running. >> how did it go? the race was friday night. it was awesome. so we were at rfk stadium. a couple of friends of mine joined me for this. it was great. there were tons of people 7500 people ran in this fun run. it was a glow in the dark deans party, 5k race. it really didn't matter if you couldn't run it but i wanted to run it. you guys have been following me, helping along the past eight weeks to train for that. we want to show you some happy snaps that we took along the way. there i am. >> how was your time? >> my time was 32 minutes.
