woodbridge. >> reporter: anita, the sister of the victim says that she is getting some rest tonight. it happened in a cul-de-sac not far from where we are standing in woodbridge, virginia. this is what happened. earlier police say a teen was inside the home. there was a knock, and when the teen opened the door, a man claimed to work for a cable company. he asked for a person and then the teen said that this person does not live here. so he leaves, but then he returns, this time he threatens the teen, forces himself inside the home. then forces the teen inside a bedroom and sexually assaults her. the teen, according to police, screamed and kicked at the man who then fled. now, we spoke to the sister earlier this evening, and she says that she just wants justice to be served. we believe we have some sound ready for you to talk about how this teen is doing tonight, how

the family is coming together. the neighborhood is alerted. that there are prayers going on for this family. we want to first show you, if we have it, a picture of the suspect. it's a pretty good sketch released by police in prince william county. this is a black man wearing a beanie in his 20's. he is of medium build. we believe he was wearing a gray jacket, red shirt, black pants and shoes. i believe we may have the sound ready and we'll play it for you from the sister of the victim tonight. >> i was really spraized -- surprised when i received a call what happened. i rushed home. i still can't believe it happened to my little sister. yeah. >> you're just relieved she's okay. >> yeah, i was just glad when i saw her. i hugged her and i was crying with her. i was like everything's going to be okay. i've got you and i'm never going to let anything happen to you. >> reporter: one more thing the sister tells me she wanted to add tonight. she does not want her sister or

she was in another classroom. tomorrow friends and family will remember charlotte bacon at her funeral. several of the victims' families say they've been overwhelmed by the thoughts, support and prayers from around the world. today the post office dedicated a post office box specifically for the town of newtown, connecticut. we put up the address on our website, wusa9.com. as you can imagine, this shooting has a lot of us talking about gun control. all that talk is having an immediate impact at many gun stores. suddenly they have all the business they can handle. the owner of a gun center in frederick explains it this way. >> what you're seeing today is the very fact that the american people fear that their government is going to prohibit them from doing what is currently lawful and legal. and their response to that is to do what's lawful and legal and purchase what they can purchase. >> at the gun center, semiautomatic assault rifles very popular today. despite the price tag on some

of them, more than $4,600. these rifles are cash and carry, meaning you can buy one with a basic instant background check and no waiting period. friday's shooting has drawn attention to the gun control debate and today a petition called for action, we the people platform became the most popular cause ever championed on the website. at last check it had 163,000 signatures. here in d.c., dozens of parents, teachers and veterans marched on the national rifle association's headquarters calling on the group to curtail its lobbying efforts. from capitol hill one virginia congressman says the shooting was enough to make him remember think his position on guns -- rethink his position on guns. >> i absolutely believe that americans have a right to reasonable gun ownership, but i also know after this enormous tragedy coming not that long after the tragedy at virginia tech, when my daughters asked me friday night, dad, you're in the senate. why can't we put reasonable

restrictions on assault weapons or these rapid fire ammunition clips? i didn't have a good enough answer for them. so i, even as an nra a-rated member believe enough is enough. >> senator warner says as the funerals begin today is not the day to present a specific plan but he hopes in the coming weeks democrats and republicans can come together for a frank conversation on gun control while preserving the rights guaranteed under the second amendment. today the same family of guns was pulled from a websites. google searches of bass shorting shops appeared they appeared to pull that gun from their online stores. the biggest unanswered question since friday is the one you've heard so many times. why? why does this absurd violence keep showing up in american society? gary nurenberg talked with a man tonight who thinks it may

be because we haven't learned how to avoid violence or more particularly we haven't been taught how to find alternatives to violence. tell us about this, gary? >> anita, resorting to violence so often in the united states, maybe we just don't know any better. what you buy your kids for christmas. what you watch on tv. call of duty black ops 2 violent video game made $500 million on its first day of release last month. going to be under a lot of christmas trees. how about sunday afternoons for tens of millions of americans? >> the violent game on national sport, it's a violent sport. >> and how about the shoot them up on this tv station the night before connecticut's horror, violence as entertainment. does a culture that celebrates, that enjoys violence lead to sandy hook? why are we so violent? >> one reason is we are not

taught alternatives to violence, so people go through all our schools and never hear that there are other ways to solve conflicts without using fists, guns, armies, bombs and nukes. so if you don't know how to do it, you can't do it. >> reporter: he has been teaching alternatives to violence for 30 years, mr. mccarthy. his students made this tribute video and posted it on youtube. he said you have to teach alternatives to violence early. >> if we took peace education seriously, every school beginning the first grade, second grade, third, right on through elementary, middle school, high school, college, would offer these courses as basic parts of our education system. >> like you start teaching math in the first grade. >> it's the same principle. if you taught peace education, maybe the boy would not be so interested in violent video games. >> or perhaps in expressing anger and frustration by

>> he died today of respiratory complications at walter reed. he was 88. he will be succeeded by vermont patrick leahy. good news on the health front for the elder george bush, former president. for the past three weeks he's been in the hospital undergoing agreement for a really bad cough. doctors now say he seems well enough to go home for the holidays. mr. bush is 88. south carolina congressman tim scott is poised to become the first black senator from a southern state since 1981. today the governor of south carolina chose scott to take over the senate seat of jim demeant who is leaving next month. both men are republicans. with two weeks to go to the deadline, there are signs we could be on track to avert the fiscal cliff tonight. president obama and house speaker john boehner met 45 minutes today. their talks included a deficit reduction package that would increase taxes on people making more than $400,000 a year and cuts in health care spending

programs. a new poll by usa today finds 66% of americans think both men should compromise to get us to an agreement. today virginia governor outlines the changes he wants to make. new spending would cover medicaid, $128.2 million for virginia's rainy day fund and $58 million for a 2% raise for teachers, principals, librarians and instructal aids. they debated aid for hurricane sandy victims into the night but didn't have a vote. they are trying to push through an aid package before christmas. several republicans say while they are sympathetic they say a smaller aid package. montgomery and carol counties

in maryland were added to the list of those designated as disasters after the storm freeing up federal aid in those areas. again, we are waiting for a vote. fall was a big problem at the airport today. dozens of flights cancelled or delayed assault of low visibility. does the fog lift by morning? topper, it was a little bit tough driving out there tonight. >> the good news is winds will turn southwest that will help scour out some of the fog. visibility has improved. 3 miles in visibility downtown. mile and a half in balance ti for. that was a quarter -- baltimore. 7 miles visibility at dulles. dense fog advisory continues until 6:00 a.m. but i think the big problems will be north and east of town, not so much west of town as winds will turn southwest. so your wakeup weather, grab a light coat. all in all, temps are pretty nice. 40s at 5:00. 40s at 7:00. maybe a leftover shower. 46 to 52 by 9:00. we'll come back and talk about how strong the winds will be by

with the fiscal cliff about 14 days away, we have more examples of where your money is going. this time it involves an influential congressman, a small manufacturer and a high- tech military machine. here's investigative reporter russ ptacek with the latest from the washington guardian. >> reporter: a watchdog group says the government is spending about six times what it should to make specialized drip pans costing you $17,000 a pop.

it's the specialized drip pan for the army's blackhawk helicopter. when the army switched its contract to a new supplier, the price tag, $17,000 each. that's when republican congressman hal rogers from kentucky comes into the story. he's the chairman of the house appropriations committee. that $17,000 replacement drip pan comes from a supplier in his kentucky district. in a 2009 press release, rogers took credit for getting his district's phoenix products millions in new business with the drip pan. washington guardian says what the congressman did was the supplier's ceo and husband are contributors to his political action committee. >> we the taxpayers have been on the hook for millions of dollars for drip pans that are needlessly expensive, all because a congressman wants business in his district to be getting this contract. >> reporter: the center for

red kins linebacker fletcher has never played a game in cleveland brown stadium. that was a big game for him because it's fletcher's hometown. he had 50 friends and family members at the game. the joy of victory didn't last long. several of his family members were involved in a fight after the game. this is youtube video of the incident. four relatives were arrested, another injured. fletcher told the nfl network today the security guards instigated the fight instead of helping. >> a lot of city of cleveland, i'm definitely not happy about, you know, what happened, because it definitely put a damper on my return and what was otherwise a great day for us being able to go in, win a ballgame. >> the wizards hopes for even a decent season were dashed when john wall injured his knee in september. now we're in december and there's no timetable on when he'll return. wall got an injection in his knee and was told he can afternoon up his recovery workout but is no closer to knowing when he can turn to the
