deserve a different vote. banana joe takes on the top prize at the westminster kennel dog show. this is the "cbs morning news" for wednesday, february 13th, 2013. good morning. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. well, this morning it appears the manhunt for a former los angeles policeman suspected in a deadly campaign against the l.a. police department is over. law enforcement officials believe the massive manhunt for christopher dorner end about 80 miles east of los angeles ended. he barricaded himself inside a cabin and opened fire. >> we know what needs to be done. >> the cabin suddenly caught fire and burnt to the ground. the sheriff's department says unidentified human remains have been found inside. now, everett lawrence is in big bear this morning.

good morning, edward. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. investigators, able to go inside the cabin this morn and found out there were the remains of a human body. they'll have to use forensic testing to positively i.d. the body but they do believe it's crist ter dorner. sources tell cbs news christopher dorner is inside this bushed out cabin. police cannot yet identify the body, but they do believe dorner was inside when the cabin caught fire. police had the cabin surrounded at the time. >> and there's. >> no indication at all. the police picked up his trail tuesday after someone reported being car jacked. >> mr. dorner jumped out in front of my truck, and he stopped me at gun point. he said i don't want to hurt you. he said get out walk up the road and take your dog with you.

cbs reporter carter evens captured the fire fight on his cell phone camera. two police officers were hit. one is now dead. the other wounded. officials focused their search on the big bear area testify police found his pickup truck burned. they went door to door searching for the suspect but they learned he didn't get very far from where his truck was found. >> the cabin he was hiding out in, and we don't know for how long, it could have been for some time, was actually across the street from the police command post where they'd been running this operation from. >> reporter: dorner is believed to have kill four people since february 3rd. he posted a manifesto on his facebook claiming he was seeking revenge for being fired from the lapd. until the remains can be positively identified, the lapd says they will continue protective details on 50 families. officers and their families who are named in the manifesto that

dorner wrote, and those protective details will last, again, until the body is positively identified. even lawrence in big bear. >> thank you very much. a determined president obama pressed his political agenda during the state of the union address. there was little kproem miez during last night's one-hour speech as the president pushed congress to push an issue ranging from gun control. he goes to north carolina to further outline his proposal. a just released cbs poll found 52% approve of the job president obama is doing but 54% believe the country is on the wrong track. susan mcginnis is in washington. good morning, susan. >> hey, good morning, anne-marie. yeah, the president seemed emboldened and unyielding last night. he fleshed out a lot of themes from the inaugural address, talk about,000 get the middle class

this time their address has been more muted and they did rise and applause a few times during his speech when he talked about immigration reform and some of his job creation proposals, when he talked about ending the war in afghanistan, and when he talked about improving health care for soldiers and veterans. but there are a number of things that he called for that will be very difficult to get through a republican-controlled house, most notably gun control measures, particular fwli when it comes to an assault weapons ban, but also some of his immigration ideas, some of his ideas when it comes to minimum wage which he'd like to see come to $9 an hour. republicans are saying let's see what you can get through the democratically controlled senate fit and then we'll consider your proposal. well, coming up on cbs, continuing coverage of the state of the union. we'll talk with them about the

the all-time high in october of 2007. the nasdaq fell 5. gas prices keep going up. aaa says the cost of a gallon of gas nation wide is now $3.60. that's up 7 cents in one week and 30 cents in the last month, and it could get worse. the government says gas prices should peak at an average of $3.73 a gallon in may. comcast will buy the rest of nbcuniversal from ge way ahead of schedule. the cable company will purchase the remaining 49% for $16.7 billion. comcast will also buy nbc's 30 rockefeller plaza for 1.4 billion. comcast has owned a majority stake of nbcuniversal since january 2011. and good news for travelers. according to a new government report, airlines lost fewer bags last year. the nation's airlines lost three bags for every 1,000 passengers.
