on and on and on with all kinds of stuff, just blacked out as you go. and i literally went through this page by page, really trying to read between the lines to try and see if we could get some kind of details about who this witness is, what the problems is, and he comes up with very little, although we do know that the defense are absolutely hopping mad about this and they are saying this prosecution was predicated on a lie. that this witness was lying, that the prosecutors knew for as long as a year that he was lying, and that they didn't bring that forward to them until just recently. so they are arguing about it and we're going to have to wait to find out what's going on. >> any idea why the secrecy? why can't we be in that courtroom as surrogates? why can't folks know what's going on? >> the prosecution argues there is a safety issue.

that there's a safety issue with the witness, who they are talking about, whose credibility is in question. they say that name has to be kept secret. possibly for months longer, before we find out. >> the time line is still months away before we may get this resolved. bruce leshan, thank you so much. anita. >> there's new information on those across the board budget cuts set to hit march 1, unless congress takes action. it's known as sequestration. $85billion in cuts that will impact virtually every federal agency. president obama surrounded himself with first responders. one key group that will lose jobs, if those cuts take effect. >> these cuts are not smart. they are not fair. they will hurt our economy. they will add hundreds of thousands of americans to the unemployment roles. people will lose their jobs. >> the president called on congress to move fast, to avoid these cuts, asking republicans to support a plan put together by senate democrats that would

offset the suquester. but gop lawmakers say raising taxes is a deal breaker. >> the stalemate on capitol hill has a lot of local officials concerned. county leaders in maryland held a news conference to talk about how it will affect the region. prince georges county executive says the sequester fight is uniting democrats and republicans on the local side. >> we'll have to figure out what is happening with contractors, federal contractors, schools decisions. we are reaching out to our colleges saying we need everybody flooding capitol hill, calling there and asking. >> baker went on to say the biggest hurdle facing county leaders and local businesses is this uncertainty created by lawmakers on the hill. and the so quester also spelled trouble for public schools, too. maryland gets $486 million every year in federal funding for special education programs.

sequestration would lead to a 5% cut. maryland school officials say that would cut services for more than 10,000 students and cause more than 250 teachers to lose their jobs. there is some new information tonight on that suspicious fire we told you about yesterday. in reston. investigators are saying the woman that firefighters found dead, turns out she was pregnant. no word on her identity or what started the fire. four juveniles are back in custody tonight after running away from a detention facility, stealing a truck, and crashing it into a house. investigators tried to make a traffic stop on cardinal drive, but the suspect took off, driving the stolen truck up the front steps of the house and right through the front door. authorities say one of the fourteens who got out of the detention center was the one behind the wheel. >> the vehicle was driving in an extremely wreckless manner. the vehicle did pass the school bus as it was fleeing.

>> the family inside the home was not hurt. the house is boarded up. a 15-year-old from prince georges county was dead, he was found be a gun shot wound two blocks from his home. family and neighbors say he was killed over a pair of shoes. >> i'm scott broom at prince georges county police headquarters where today, police and prosecutors reacted to the killing of a fifth prince georges county school student this school year. 15-year-old suitland high school freshman was shot in the back yesterday in the 4100 block of 28th avenue and hill crest heights. >> the motive is robbery, involving a pair of shoes that were being carry ied in a shopping bag. >> can't walk with a pair of shoes without being shot in the back. that is something that should be of concern. we need our parents to wrap their arms around the children. to teach them the proper

values. go to school, work hard, and buy tennis shoes. we don't kill individuals for tennis shoes. >> earlier today, walker's brother visited the scene of the shooting. police chief appealed for tips and said detectives are on the verge of solving four of the five student murders that have occurred this school year. in palmer park, maryland, scott broom, wusa9. a high school sophomore pleads guilty to an attempted murder and using a firearm in connection with a shooting with one of his classmates. 15-year-old robert gladden, jr., entered a plea. part of the plea deal, the judge agreed to sentence him to no more than 40 years behind bars. and a new trial began today for a man who has been sentenced to 100 years in prison. jason scott accused of murdering dewitt and her daughter. defendants serving time for a series of burglaries in '08 and

returning to money news tonight and the prospects are not good for a mortgage refinancing bill. the president wants to make it easier for homeowners to refinance mortgages back by freddie and fanny. it could run into trouble in the republican controlled house. >> a new report out tonight from the national association of home builders shows some confidence among builders is at its lowest point in more than six years. many builders are reporting lower numbers of prospective customers ahead of the usually busy spring home buying season. d.c.'s tough law keeps working and moderate income people in their apartments. but for how long? bruce johnson reports that new

windchills inch up to the 20s. temperatures themselves, 36 to 40. so, tomorrow, mountains to the coast, plenty of sunshine. only in the 20s in oakland. 32 in cumberland. mid 30s for martinsburg and martinsburg and winchester. warren ton, manassas, culpeper you'll make 40. fairfax, you won't make 40. around 40 into southern maryland and yes, with the winds, all kinds of advisories for the bay and title potomac. 38 in gaithersburg and 37 up in frederick. so the next three days, just cold tomorrow. windy and cold. upper 30s, that's it. cold on thursday, 41. and then showers will develop on friday and more information i look at, i think it will be all liquid rain with highs in the mid 40s. next seven days, that temperature started going up a little bit. rain into saturday. temperatures will try to get to 50 and then, sunday looks pretty nice. low 50s for sunshine.

we have breaking news. a four-year-old girl injured in a fire in southeast d.c. this weekend has died. the fire began sunday morning around 3:00 at a home in the 2600 block of 33rd street. everybody in that home got out except the little four-year- old. she was rescued, sadly she succumbed to her injuries. the owner of the home was arrested and charged with assault. police say he got into a fight with one of the tenants and threatened to kill her. the cause of the fire remains unknown. now, here's kristen berset at the wusa9 cadillac sports

desk. over the course of the last month, we have only gotten minor updates on rg3 and all we heard are things are going well. i talked to alfred and he said griffin was in high spirits. we didn't see him limping at the nfl honors. today, the hope that rg3 will be ready at the start of the season got kicked up when he tweeted a link to his new commercial. the ad ends with the words, all in, for week one. now however, griffin immediately followed that up with a cautionary tweet he wrote, quote, feel like i need to say this, although my goal is to start week one. it doesn't mean i will compromise my career to do so. wise words from the young qb. the washington wizards are on the up and up. they hoped to head into the all- star break. now detroit squashed that goal, but there is plenty of positives to take into the second half of the season. the wizards won ten of 18 since
