position and eric walden just does an excellent job coming on the rush. the rookie bjoern werner, he's going to drop. that's an area he has to get out to but that's what the 3/4 defense allows you to do. walden, a guy who's expected to pick up the slack from dwight freeney who went to san diego, and he makes a nice play there for the sack. handoff is to brown. andre brown after the loss of 13 yards on the sack, takes it to the ten. >> troy: defensively, you look at what's happened here in the first quarter and now into the second quarter, the giants have moved the football, but two trips inside the red zone. and they only give up, the colts only give up three points. on the third defensive possession, they get the interception. here they are on their fourth defensive possession holding the giants to a third and long situation. >> joe: it's third and

20. manning, with time, he's a little short for kevin hardy. and so fourth down, it's three and out and that sack by walden set things in motion. >> troy: here's hakeem nicks, victor cruz out with his heel injury and the question has been what's the health of hakeem nicks. kevin gill bright wanted to see in this game, can he recapture whatever speed he had prior to last year. he's never been a burner, but he could run by some people. last year that was lost because of the nagging injuries. he's had some again this year, as we documented. but he doesn't look like he's back to form, at least here in this preseason game. >> joe: one catch for 20 yards. good punt by wetherford. it was covered well downfield. 54-yard punt. good coverage by jayron hosley for the

2-14 record which was tied for the worst in the nfl. so they had the chance to draft andrew luck last year. they go 11-5, get into the playoffs. it's year two. donald brown now in the back field. reggie wayne makes the catch in front of aaron ross. they'll throw a flag after a completion of six yards. here's ed. >> referee: personal foul, face mask, defense, number 31. a penalty is enforced from the dead ball ya down. >> troy: you mentioned andrew luck and as good as year as he had going into the season,

of course everyone was talking about him and robert griffin iii there in washington and most everybody felt that rg3 had the opportunity to have the most success because of the supporting cast and, you know, really, andrew luck, although he gets recognized, i don't know that he gets the appreciation for just how good he really was. >> joe: here's brown. donald does not get much. a gain of two. more on that in a second. from america's number one pregame show comes the all new fox football daily featuring an all-star line-up of experts and nfl legends. you can get everything you love on sunday, every day of the week. fox football daily premieres tomorrow on america's new sports network, fox sports 1. you'll be a part of that. >> troy: i will. look forward to it. >> joe: randy moss's name was not on that graphic, but he will be there tomorrow. we'll talk to randy at the second half as well as brian urlacher. it's a handoff to

donald brown. takes it to the 35. jacquian williams in on the stop. just to follow-up on this thought, this offense for the colts last year, over 50% of their yards came from their rookie class offensively. and having said that, they were 9-1 in games decided by seven points or less. that's impressive for such a young group of players. not just the offense, the defense is out there as well. but to finish the way they finished. >> luck throws and the pass is caught. and t.y. hilton is out of bounds with the first down and the second year receiver showing a lot of adjustment there to make the catch. good for 18 yards. >> troy: it shows the kind of confidence that luck has in hilton. he turns that ball loose before hilton came out of his break. hilton is one of those young talented wide receivers that they're expecting huge things from. as we see justin tuck

go right through gosder cherilus and i know this defensive staff has got to be pleased to see this. >> joe: he was the 13th receiver taken in the draft last year p what a rookie season. here's brown, nothing. back to the line of scrimmage. in the end, hilton, among rookies was fourth in receptions with 50. second in receiving yards with 861 and first in receiving touchdowns with seven. and again, among rookies was number one with over 17 yards per catch. the colts speed things up. >> troy: this is part of the offense of today's nfl. these defenses and the coordinators, they have to be prepared for it. a lot goes in to getting ready to play against an up-tempo offense. >> joe: donald thomas, the left guard, moved early. >> referee: false start, offense, number 66, five-yard penalty, still second down.
7:58 pm
>> joe: thomas, troy, one of two guys brought in by ryan greason, the gentleman to help shore up the offensive line. he and cherilus at right tackle to protect andrew luck. >> troy: and in the third and fourth round, they go with offensive linemen, hugh thornton and pep hamilton hasn't been at stanford. they're going to use six and seven offensive linemen sets. think back to san francisco and some of the things they do because of harbaugh and the influence at stanford. expect some of the same at indianapolis. >> joe: luck will drop it off for brown. donald brown gets one block, lowers his shoulder inside the 20. he was met there by dan connor who got the start at middle line backer tonight. connor is in a battle with mark herzlich for that middle line backer spot. it will bring up third and long after a gain of four. >> troy: the line backer situation for the giants, perry fuel will say, i like the

group, each guy kind of has the things that they do best and they'll interchange a lot of them. depending on a lot of those players, but no one has really jumped up and took a hold of any one of those three spots. >> joe: on third and 11, pat. hilton in the corner for the touchdown! right over jayron hosley. >> troy: jayron hosley was in a good position. he's got the sideline, the back line to protect himself. as he's looking at quarterback, trying to back pedal rather than run, andrew luck lays one over his head purposely, for t.j. hilto -- ty. hilton. he maintains possession on the way to the ground and it's a touchdown that just was not very well played there by hosley. >> joe: scoring play, they review
