one theory they're looking into is whether a torrential rainstorm may have had something to do with it. part of a ceiling collapsed in the middle of a performance with it packed withhundreds. >> loud bearing. i don't think the ceiling came down. dust, chan dell leer, wood, that sort of stuff. >> many thought it was part of the play. >> we thought it was part of the theater and then -- yeah. we just looked up and the whole ceiling -- it was like slow motion. it just came down. >> other london theaters became triage centers for the walking wounded. some were taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. >> we thought it was part of the play honestly, so that was our reaction, wasn't it? >> bang. everything. de debris, dust, everything. >> it was like foggy.

you couldn't see anything. you didn't know what was going on. >> police actually commandeered three london buses take some of the injured to the hospital. they say the building is secure enough for the investigation to begin on this 112-year-old building. of course, the concern is this isn't the only old theater in town. anne-marie? >> charlie d'agata in town. thank you, charlie. potentially dangerous weather will begin to spread across a large part of the country today. depending where you live it will include strong rain, torrential flooding and ice. >> messy days of weather ahead. there's hail in southern california and some pretty heavy snowfall in higher elevations. this is the same energy that's going to crash across the country. it geengs bring the whole kitchen sink. ice, snow, heavy rain. it comes together on saturday. there will be snow and ice on the edge of this one. we'll also look at a big severe

weather threat on saturday. especially here, lower and mid-mississippi river valleys. wind gusts and several tornados could not be ruled out as we head through the course of saturday. then into sunday more rain on the east coast. the severe threat including charlotte and atlanta and significant ice will work its way into parts of northern canada. in terms of total rainfall, how much are we talking? >> 3 to 6 inches. maybe as much as a half foot here around the northern sections of the ohio river valley, 1 to 3 including a wide swath into the northeast. that could cause some flash flooding. then we talk about the ice. this could go along with 3 to 6 inches of snowfall. kansas city impacted up toward milwaukee and chicago. the biggest ice storm may be across northern new england and new york. as we head into saturday night and sunday, this could be a devastating event, one we'll be watching very carefully but you may have to be prepared for big power outages. i'm eric fisher for the cbs news

they affect americans whose health insurance policies were canceled because of obama carry. these policies come just before monday's deadline to sign up for the new law. tara mergener is in washington with the details. tara, good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. this 11th hour change is an exception to the individual mandate in some cases right before that january 1 deadline. despite the administration's insistence there would be no delays. in a last-minute change to the affordable care acted, people whose current insurance plan was canceled may not face a penalty if they don't have coverage in the new year. in a letter to senate democrats, health and human services secretary kathleen sebelius announced people struggling to find a replacement plan may be exempt from getting coverage. they can also buy an insurance plan called catastrophic coverage, a bare bones policy that would protect you if you're

hospitalized or suffer a serious illness. sebelius wrote the premium for these plans which are other waiz available to those 30 years of age are about 20% lower than other policies in place. the group renting the insurance industry said in a statement this latest rule change could cause significant instability in the marketplace and lead to further disruption and confusion for consumers. about half a million people who have lost their insurance have not chosen new coverage. the change was suggested by a group of democratic senators, anne-marie, facing tough midterm elections. >> tara mergener in washington. thank you, tara. well, congress passed a bill that would address sexual seattles in the military. it was approved by the house last week. besides cracking down on sexual

assault the bill provides for over $552 billion for the regular pentagon budget and over $80 billion for overseas operations including the war in afghanistan. backlash from the credit card security breach at target stores. some customers are worried about security issues and say they will no longer shop at target. target, the nation's second largest retailer, is advising its customers to carefully check their statements. chip reid has more. >> reporter: as customers poured into target stores to kick off the holiday season three weeks ago, there was no way to know millions of them were about to be scammed here's how investigators believe it worked. first a sophisticated hacker broke into target's computer system and gained access to the company's credit and debit card terminals. then when customers swiped their cards to make purchases they stole data of up to 40 million customers including names, card numbers, zpir dagss and security

codes. shaun henry formerly led the division of fbi and now leads crowd strike. >> once they get that private data, they can try to sell credit card numbers for purchase for pennies on the dollar and those people down the line will try to use it through fraudulent purchases. >> reporter: in a letter to its customers it wrote if you shopped at target between november 22nd and december 13th, you should check your account for any unusual or suspicious activity. they said anybody who found anything unusual should contact their bank to make sure they're protected from loss. those who used a credit card were told to contact target but the facebook page was swamped with angry complaints from whers who couldn't get through by phone. this kind of scam could happen to almost any company as big as target. >> you've got networks that are so vast and so large that it's virtually impossible to protect them from every type of attack.

. good morning of the welcome to wusa9. as the song goes, it's finally friday. i'm andrea roane. good morning. i'm mike hydeck. erica starts us off with the forecast. you can feel the warmth. temperatures in the 40s. most of us will climb into the 50s by the end of the rush hour so really, really feeling that difference. we're going to hit the 60s as we head into this weekend. possibly even today. by noon we'll be at 57 degrees. we'll reach a high of 61 i believe downtown in d.c. at around 2:00 p.m. dropping down to 59 by 4:00 and
