mr. putin's mission was to submilitant growing comradery with russia and cuba. he wanted to establish 90-miles from florida and bordering the panama canal russian military bases. cuba ran up a debt to russia dating back to the soviet era of $35 billion. on the july trip president putin waved $32 billion in debt. new commercial agreements on energy and trade were made between the two. remaining $3 billion will be used for education in cuba. mr. putin wants to invest in the creation of a grand

transportation hub. construction of an airport and petroleum projects on the island's north coast including drilling for new oil and vast volume offshore deposits. next stop argentina. president putin visited the arch argentinian president and signed agreements with her involving the massive russian atomic corporation. >> president obama's belief this is not a cold war, a new one, is that wishful thinking? >> no it is not. there is not a new cold war. putin is playing in our backyard because we are in his backyard. he doesn't want a new cold war. he and angela merkel are working to cut off aid to the

separatists of ukraine in return of his recognition of the ownership of the crimian peninsula. after that russia comes in from the cold. europeans don't want russia in the cold. i don't want russia in the cold. putin doesn't want to stay in the cold. i believe he sees his future with the west. i think down there they are playing games. >> putin is in our backyard because he can. he sees the u.s. in his backyard and he wants to let us know how it feels. he'll sign sweet heart deals for the recipients. just like he did with china. he gave china a good break on oil gas. he is likely to do the same with these south american countries. he likes the political credibility that comes with it. i don't think there is anything to fear.

if you look at western europe and the perception of weakness and vulnerability there is a clear statement on the russian government to insert its interest, as they see it around the world. i would argue that the things we are saying here are concerning movement towards a new cold war. they do affect the u.s. in strategic ways. >> he cut a very big deal in argentina. he is going to make nuclear reactors. >> there is no idea logical content. he is not going to put interimmediate range ballistic missles in cuba. >> russia had a relationship with the cubans going back decades. i knew fidel well. i have been to that country

have taken on an urgency. israel embraced the cease-fire. hamas rejected it. this week secretary of state john kerry adopted a proposal floated by turkey and katah. allies on hamas. the plan includes hamas' demand to lift israel's 8 year-long barricade. israeli officials went ballistic last weekend after secretary kerry abruptly changed the term. the israeli newspaper said this quote:

criticism of kerry. on friday secretary kerry condemned the israeli palestinian violations of the gaza cease-fire. is it warranted or over the top? >> at the specific issue of his coming in with a peace proposal that came from joining with turkey, whose leader is the worse anti- semantic leader in the middle east. they formed a program. kerry's carrying it in did not go over well. >> a lead balloon. >> there was a bad move. it is completely disengaged from the process. they come back with a new theory. israelis have to prevent their own people from being bombed

with missles and being attacked through these tunnels under them. these are strategic threats to israel. they are going to respond to it. this is something not going to change because kerry coming in under this way. he's come back with a different proposal, with a short term cease-fire which ended after three hours when the palestinians attacked and killed a couple israeli soldiers and captured one. which is another way to explode any possibility of an agreement. >> death toll is 1445 hamas. israel 56. what about the fatar wing of the palestinians. is he playing a role? >> at that point they'll have to play a role if this is going to be resolved. israelis cannot deal with the people in gaza. >> this process is as dead as it can be. it is not only israel that hawith

turkey and the jordanians and saudis and others are in israel's camp in this war. they are silent cheerleaders for israel. they were appalled. there is a new division in the middle east. what is happening to turkey is something. they are savagely anti-israel and comparing them with nazi's. that is a nato ally of the united states. >> what grade do you give the secretary of state. >> i'm giving them a b. i'm being generous because he changed the atmosphere coming in with the proposal from two countries. >> there is a follow up to here. the fallout grows. it is not just the israelis who

are unhappy. after jerusalum kerry went to paris and met with the foreign ministers of turkey and katah exploring jordan and saudi arabia. egypt's foreign minister was invited by turned kerry down. the palestinian authority issued a blood statement to hamas that those who side with turkey and kutah can go and live there. >> how did the obama administration manage to alienate jordan, egypt and the palestinians? >> i think what we have seen is a consolidation of power in egypt. it is much stronger in terms of anti-position against hamas. the issue going back to john kerry is you have to speak to katah to some degree. they are the tap for hamas. if you want to cut off money to

hamas they are necessary. it ultimately has to come down to egypt. the problem, going back to this question, is kerry hasn't been astute to the fact that he is trying to meanderer his way through. >> the fact the deal could be moved forward or cut in egypt more likely? less likely? >> much more likely. >> it is not just egypt. you have to understand it is saudi arabia and the uae. >> would israel say face if the deal were cut with a non-

intrusion of egypt? >> of course. they are closer to where egypt is. >> egypt is very anti-hamas as is most of the countries you mentioned. hamas is isolated. at some point their concerns will have to be dealt with. only two countries deal with them. kerry has to open up to them or else you cannot speak to hamas. he is doing the right thing as a fair minded diplomat. >> kerry's problem is he doesn't understand the new realities of the middle east. >> this is true. i think he is a quick and fast learner. stay with us. we'll be right back.
