stands. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. powerful and dangerous storms are predicted to move across the central and southern plains today and tomorrow. on wednesday night, a tornado touched down in tulsa, oklahoma, hurting at least seven people and knocking out power to thousands. >> we could see it right there. you see the house right there in the debris. as it's hitting the houses in stone canyon, there is debris off of some roofs. i people are taking cover in this area. >> reporter: the twister touched down multiple times around tulsa. >> look at that. >> reporter: the hardest hit area measured a mile in a residential section of the city and homes there sustained severe damage. >> the debris going around in circles. my son, wife, the client, get down on the floor. two minutes later,

the high winds came through and broke everything and broke out windows. >> reporter: the storm shredded roofs and brought power lines to the ground. >> right there, you see he that rotation? it's back on the ground. on the south side of claire more right now. we see the power flashes in that area. >> reporter: nearly 9 million americans were in the path of severe weather on wednesday. a hail storm pounded homes near wichita, kansas, in the afternoon. >> sounded like golf ball-sized hail. sounded like a hurricane was outside the front door. >> the storm system is wreaking havoc as it moves east but it remains a threat in the southeast today. forecasters say baalabama is at risk for tornadoes and northeast of louisiana could get up to half a foot of rain today. this morning,'s donald trump's comments about abortion

protesters. trump said women who get legal abortions should be punished. brian webb is here in new york with the details on the latest trump controversy. >> reporter: donald trump's turnaround is little to come the firestorm that erupted moments after he said this. >> the answer is that there has to be some form of punishment. >> not woman? >> yeah, there has to be some form. >> reporter: soon after making the comments, the gop front-runner released a statement saying if abortions were illegal, the doctor or any other person performing this illegal act upon a woman would be held illegally responsible, not the woman. the anti-abortion rights group, march for life" quickly panned trump for being out of step with the movement saying, in part, no pro lifer would ever want to punish a woman who has chosen abortion. trump's chief rival ted cruz shared similar

heilemann. this morning police in minneapolis are appealing for calm. the african community is outraged after a prosecutor decided not to press charges against two white police officers involved in the fatal shooting of a black man. jamie yuccas reports. >> reporter: protesters gathered on the north side of minneapolis in the same spot where police shot and killed 24-year-old jamar clark last november. >> we are going to use our voice and our vote! >> that's right! >> we are going to turn this thing around! >> reporter: wednesday, hennepin county attorney mike freeman announced two minneapolis officers will not face charges in clark's death. video shows clark's girlfriend loaded in the ambulance and clark is seen banging on the ambulance doors. mark ringenberg and dustin
