>> the idea is being put into action. the effort to stop donald trump took a new turn sunday night. in coordinated statements, ted cruz and john kasich announced plans to team up to beat the gop front-runner in three upcoming primaries. the new strategy encourages cruz supporters in oregon and new mexico to back kasich while kasich asks his supporters in indiana to help cruz. >> do we want to nominate a campaign based on yelling and screaming and cursing, or do we want to unite behind a positive, optimistic, forward-looking, conservative camn?

the "cbs evening news" and more tomorrow on "cbs this morning." there's a major manhunt this morning for the killer or killers of eight family members, seven adults and one teenage boy were shot in the head in four home in rural southern ohio. law enforcement is advising residents there to arm themselves if they fear for their safety. investigators on sunday said the killings were sophisticated executions. >> this was not something that just happened. this was something that was planned. the family was targeted, most targeted while they were sleeping. >> a days' old infant, 6-month-old baby, and a small child were not hurt. police found several marijuana growing operations at the crime scenes. sources tell cbs that dallas-ft. worth -- in dallas-ft. worth that a grand jury has indicted quarterback johnny manziel. the 23-year-old is accused of repeatedly hitting

teenager by two promgoers had been bullied. jacob wagner was shot by police after he opened fire saturday outside a northern wisconsin high school. he died hours later. two students have nonlife threatening wounds. wagner attended the school but didn't graduate with his class last year. >> we d kind of bond because we were bullied by a lot of the same people. kind of in the same ways. i think we all knew that he was bullied. >> governor scott walker says the quick police response saved lives. through their historic round-the-world trip. on the cbs "moneywatch," gas prices floated up, and a battle of childhood classics at the box office. hena daniels has that and more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, gains by energy and financial companies aided by the rise of oil helped lift stocks last week. the dow jones rose 107 for the week. the s&p 500 finished almost 11 points higher. the nasdaq was the exception, falling nearly 32 points. investors will keep a close eye on a federal reserve meeting this week over interest rates. policymakers gather tuesday and wednesday and are widely expected to keep rates steady. however, the fed might tweak the country's economic outlook to reflect better conditions, opening the door to a rate hike later. just as oil prize continue to climb, so does the cost to fill up your gas tank. the latest lundberg survey found the ave c

up eight cents over the past three weeks. the average in is now $2.18 a gallon. that's up 41 cents over the past nine weeks. the increase is expected to continue as refineries switch to a pricier, summer blend to comply with federal regulations. the faa has ordered airlines to fix certain ge engines on boeing's 787 dreamliner to prevent an icing problem that can cause them to shut down while mid flight. 176 dreamliners belonging to 29 airlines are affected. back in january, one of the two engines on a japanese airline -- japan airline's 787, rather, shut down while in the air and could not be restarted. the plane did land safely. "the jungle book" held on to its top spot in the second weekend in theaters. the live action remake of disney's 1967 animated classic earned nearly another $61 million.
