evacuate as firefighters battle to keep the flames from destroying the heart of the city. >> my home is burnt to the ground. >> reporter: the wind-whipped fire has already destroyed or damaged at least 1,600 buildings. in some hard-hit neighborhoods, 80% of the homes have burned to the ground. building and cars reduced to ashes, including a new school. an area gas station blew up. >> it's something like you'd see out of the movies. the bank was on fire when we were driving in. the trailer park that was there is gone. the super 8's gone. one of the gas stations is gone. >> reporter: ft. mcmurr say surrounded by wilderness, and the fire has basically cut the town in two. some resident were forced to flee to the south toward edmonton. bumper-to-bumper lines of cars moving as fast as they could through flames and intense smoke. some

"start me up" was a particular favorite. no comment from the trump campaign. coming up on "cbs this morning," we will have further analysis of who donald trump might pick as his running mate. president obama told residents of flint, michigan, i've got your back. in flint yesterday, mr. obama of briefed on the city's water crisis. it began two years ago after city officials in an effort to save money switched the water supply to the flint river. the water wasn't treated for corrosion, leading to high levels of lead. the president told residents he understood why they are scared and angry. >> even though the scope of the response looks sort of like the efforts we're used to seeing after a natural disaster, that's not what this was.

this was avoidable. >> the president sipped city water to show it is now drinkable. north carolina officials are reacting to a warning from the justice department that the state law limiting protections for lgbt people violates federal law. the federal government says the state is in danger of losing hundreds of millions in funding. the governor says the warning is something we've never seen regarding washington overreach in my lifetime. we're learning more about the final days of prince. federal agents who are investigating, they're looking into who provided prescription drugs that were found in his house. and the singer's representative sought out a prominent addiction doctor. jamie yuccas reports. >> reporter: in the last 24 hours of prince's life, the singer was preparing to silence an addiction, according to dr. howard kornfeld's attorney. >> dr. kornfeld

on the cbs "money watch," an airbag recall doubles in size. youtube gets into the online tv subscription business. jill wagner is at the new york stock exchange. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. signs of weakness in the job market and disappointing corporate earnings sent stocks on wall street lower. the dow lost 99 points, the s&p fell 12, the nasdaq finished 37 points lower. the largest auto recall in u.s. history got even bigger. the national transportation safety board is adding 40 million airbags to the ongoing recall by a japanese manufacturer, takata. the airbags can explode with too much force. they are responsible for at least 11 deaths. the government has a website, w www.safercar.gov. it will eventually allow you to see if your car or truck is on the list. next monday, general motors plans to reopen four north american plants that have been shut down because of supply shortages caused by last month's earthquakes in japan.

southwest japan killed 49. they shut down manufacturing. the plants are located in tennessee, ohio, kansas, and canada. electric carmaker tesla has big plans. tesla says it is increasing production for its model 3 mass market sedan with plans to manufacture 500,000 cars in 2018. tesla wants to become a high-volume automaker. tesla expects to deliver about 90,000 cars this year. an offer by gannett to buy tribune publishing for more than $388 million has been rejected. tribune owns the "los angeles times," "the chicago tribune," and other newspapers. gannett, owner of "usa today," wanted to expand its network. the tribune says the offer understates its value -- in other words, not enough money. and youtube could be working on a paid subscription tv service. bloomberg report the news service will be called unplugged. it would offer customers a bundle of cable cha
