it's tuesday, may 10th, 2016, this is the "cbs morning news." at least two people are dead after a massive tornado tore across oklahoma with storms set to spawn more twisters today. it's a date. republican leaders agree to meet with donald trump as he tries to unite his party, while the democrats are still divided and still fighting for primary votes. and dueling lawsuits over north carolina's controversial bathroom law. why the state's governor says he's not backing down from a fight with the justice department any time soon.

good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. in germany this morning, at least one person was killed when a knife-wielding man started stabbing people at a munich area railway station. police say the suspect attacked four passengers with a knife at a station east of munich. a suspect is under arrest. it's also reported the assailant shout shout god is great during the attack. there's been some nasty weather. a string of tornadoes that swept across the plains left at least two people dead. a tornado emergency was declared in parts of oklahoma. at least 12 tornadoes were reported yesterday in oklahoma, kansas, nebraska, and iowa. eric fischer, chief meteorologist of our boston station wbz, is following this severe weather system. >> reporter: unfortunately, a deadly day of weather kicked off

the plains. notice a large number of tornado reports. over a dozen of them. what was different between this outbreak and a couple that really didn't live up to maybe the expectations earlier on this season, a strong push of westerly winds. we had more wind shear to work with and some really dramatic tornados that formed. as we look forward, we're watching another area of storms fire up through this afternoon and evening, especially reaching down into texas, as well as over toward the ohio valley. that's our tuesday. another piece of energy is going to swing out on wednesday. we're going to watch those thunderstorms refire across especially parts of the midwest. so our tuesday outlook, from del rio toward austin, this may extend toward dallas. a chance of large hail and isolate ed tornadoes. also keep an eye on the lower ohio river valley. wednesday looks like it's going to be a busier day for us. we'll be watching places like st. louis, down through springfield, tulsa, kansas city. also be on alert for an active week of severe storms. i'm meteorolt

for cbs news. stay safe. >> now don champion has more on the devastation in the plains. >> i'm going to agree. it's going to be at least probably an ef-2 tornado. very strong, violent winds right there the a the surface. >> reporter: deadly tornadoes tore through southern oklahoma monday afternoon and evening. multiple homes were damaged or destroyed in garvin county, where an elderly man was killed. >> it looks like it's completely level. >> reporter: people living nier wynnewood returned to find their homes completely destroyed. forecasters say millions of people are still in the path of potentially violent weather. don champion, cbs news. well, alberta, canada, officials say most of canada's main oil city of fort mcmurray has been spared from a massive wildfire, but two neighborhoods were all but wiped out. it's estimated some 2400

incinerated. it will be weeks before some 80,000 evacuated residents will be able to return. there is no gas, power, and the water is undrinkable. today republicans hold primaries in nebraska and west virginia, but the real fireworks may come the day after tomorrow when donald trump is scheduled to meet with republican leaders in washington amid escalating tensions. many are not on board with trump as the gop nominee. his meeting with house speaker paul ryan could be particularly awkward. trump said he was blind sided when ryan said he was withholding his endorsement of trump. ryan says he would relinquish his role as chairman of the republican national convention. democrats hold a primary in west virginia, and bernie sanders is telling supporters the race is not over. thousands gathered to hear sanders at a rally in sacramento last night. they cheered sanders but booed hillary clinton when sanders talked about her support of the
