day motorcycle ride, when a driver plows over two people on a bike. the mayhem that led up to this moment. and the matchup is set. the golden state warriors win the west, setting up an nba finals rematch with lebron james and the cavs. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm ann-marie green. well, one week from today the primary season all but wraps up, including california. for the democrats, 475 elected delegates are up for grabs. bernie sanders says he expects to do well, and the latest polls indicate that he is running neck and neck with hillary clinton. but she needs just 73 more delegates to secure the nomination. on the republican side later today, donald trump is expected to explain just what happened to the money he raised for

hena daniels is here in new york. good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. donald trump will hold a news conference today to address questions over millions of dollars his foundation raised for veterans. the money was raised when trump skipped out on a scheduled republican debate in january and held a fundraiser instead. donald trump is expected to set the record straight today about his fundraising efforts on behalf of veterans. >> we just raised almost $6 million for the vets. >> the presumptive gop nominee has come under scrutiny for failing to disclose where the money went. he brushed the issue aside while courting vets at an annual motorcycle event in washington, d.c., on sunday, while tearing into his likely democratic opponent, hillary clinton. >> she thinks the v.a. is doing good. if she thinks they're doing a good job, then i've been wasting a lot of time because i know the vets, and they are miserable with what's happening. >> clinton remains locked in a

rival bernie sanders. the vermont senator attended game seven of the western conference finals last night. like the warriors who fought fbackthrom e brink of elimination, he's hoping for a great comeback in the golden state. >> they turned it around. that is what our campaign is going to do as well. >> clinton has changed her campaign schedule and will return to california four days earlier than planned. a win in the state next tuesday would give her enough delegates to lock up the party nomination. and clinton is off the campaign trail today, holding two fundraisers, one in new york and one in new jersey, while bernie sanders continues to stump for votes in california. anne-marie? >> all right, hena daniels here in new york. thanks a lot. yesterday secret service agents rushed to surround bens when protesters trialed to storm the stage. sanders was speaking at a rally in oakland. the agents jumped on the plat tomorrow to protect him and led him off the stage. other agents grabbed the protesters and led them

it's not clear why they were protesting. sanders eventually continued his speech. and for the first time, the rain has stopped in southeast texas, but resident there is are still bracing for more flooding. flood watches and warnings are posted in the houston area this morning. severe thunderstorm watches are posted elsewhere in the state. the brazos river is expected to crest at record levels, over 53 feet, by this afternoon. that's three feet above the previous record spurred by days of unrelenting rain. the high water is blamed for at least six deaths. there have already been mandatory evacuations. homes and land are under water, and dozens have been rescued from the high water. there's more rain in the forecast later this week, unfortunately, and the water is not expected to recede for days. in the southwest and nebraska, at least one tornado touched down. large hail and heavy rain is reported. so far there are no reports of injuries or extensive damage.

southwest germany. days of torrential rains triggered raging flood waters that swept away homes, cars, and two bridges. one of the victims was a firefighter trying to rescue someone who was stranded by the high water. the taliban are being blamed for killing at least 16 people this morning in afghanistan. it happened in the northern province of kunduz. a spokesman says the militants pulled passengers from buses and shot them. dozens more were taken hostage. back in this country now, two motorcycle riders have been hospitalized following a road rage incident near tampa. a driver ran over the two bikers. one witness says it started when thive drer ran the biker off the road. they caught up with him and started arguing, and that's when he ran them over. the

threatening injuries and the driver is under arrest. a sailor came to the rescue of ten people aboard a sinking boat this holiday weekend. the 41-footer was going down quickly seven miles from florida's west coast, but the sailor was less than a mile away when he heard the call for help. all ten were safely aboard his sailboat when the motor boat dipped beneath the waves. and a woman is in serious condition after a boat exploded on a lake near central north carolina. five people were reportedly on the boat at the time. she was blown off the boat by the explosion. four others jumped overboard before the blast. the boat had just left shore when it caught fire. the director of the cincinnati zoo defended the zoo's decision to kill a gorilla to protect a 4-year-old boy. he says that the boy climbed over a three-foot railing, walked through bushes that were four feet deep, before falling 15 feet into the gorilla

officials hope to reopen the exhibit by next weekend. jamie yuccas has our report. >> reporter: animal activists held a vigil to remember harambe. the 17-year-old western lowland gorilla was shot after a boy fell into its exhibit. >> we're here to represent harambe. we're not here to point fingers. we're not here to criticize. >> i hope they're able to come up with ways to avoid this happening in the future. >> reporter: cell phone video captured the terrifying moments after a young boy somehow wound up alone in a mote with a 400-pound gorilla. >> the gorilla has the child and is drinking him around the pen. >> reporter: the boy's mother could be heard calling to him. >> mommy loves you. i'm right here. >> reporter: zoo officials made the decision to shoot and kill harambe, saying tranquilizing the animal was not an option. >> that child's life was in danger. people who question that

monday morning quarterbacks or second guessers don't understand you can't take a risk with a silverback gorilla. >> reporter: the zoo says the exhibit barrier is adequate. the boy's family released a statement saying he is home and fine. jamie yuccas, cbs news. this morning, the white house is back in business after being locked down yesterday afternoon. a woman threw a metal object over the fence along pennsylvania avenue. fire trucks and a hazardous material response team was called. the woman was arrested. president obama was not there at the time. the all clear was given and normal operations resumed. former attorney general eric holder says edward snowden performed a public service when he leaked classified material back in 2013. holder said snowden broke the law and should face the kons questions but that he sparked a national debate about secret domestic surveillance programs. snowden mocked the evolution of thgh

he tweeted this out. in 2013, it's treason. in 2014, maybe not, but it was reckless. 2015, still technically it was unlawful. 2016, it was a public service but -- 2017, hinting at the government's shifting stance. the golden state warriors' historic season continues. they won game seven of the western conference finals last night against the oklahoma city thunder, beating oklahoma 96-88 despite setting the regular season record for most wins, the warriors had to battle back, winning three elimination games to reach the finals. >> we continue to battle. we leaned on the experience that we've had. everybody stuck together. that was, what was important. >> golden state will take on lebron james and the cleveland cavaliers in a rematch of last season's nba finals. first game is thursday in oakland.

"the los angeles times" reports the arrest of a man suspected in the killing of his pregnant girlfriend during a car game. philip was arrested sunday at the mexican border. he's been on the run since allegedly shooting his girlfriend in the head last month. "the dallas morning news" reports the departure of another official in the baylor university sexual assault scandal. athletic director 'yan mccause follo follows the firing of the football coach. an investigation found that the school is not act on sexual assault allegations against athletes. "the chicago tribune star" reports an nba star might skip the olympics in brazil because of zika. pau gasol of the bulls says that athletes aren't being told enough about the risk of exposure to the

here's a look at today's forecast in some cityinies arou the country. in sri lanka on sunday, it took a village to raise a trapped elephant calf. rescuers had to break open a drain it fell into. they used smoke bombs to keep the baby's worried mother away. the calf is being checked out at a clinic for a suspected broken leg, but they got him out. on the cbs money watch, a deal to end a verizon strike and myspace hacked. it may be impacting millions. jill wagner is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. >> good morning. nearly 40,000 verizon workers return to work tomorrow after being on strike since mid-april.

and washington, d.c., worked without a contract since august. the tentative deal reached friday includes nearly an 11% pay raise over four years and 1300 new jobs. union members vote on that deal after returning to work. volkswagen's net profits plunged 19% in the first quarter as it deals with the aftermath of its emissions cheating scandal. the german automaker admitted to rigging software in cars to beat pollution tests. volkswagen has set aside about $18 billion to cover fines and legal settlements. wall street opens this morning following yesterday's holiday with investors looking towards the jobs report due out friday. last week, fed chair janet yellen hinted that the fed will raise interest rates in the coming months as long as the economy stays healthy. last week the dow gained 369 points. the s&p finished 46 points higher. the nasdaq added 162 points. if you flew over the holiday

through those airport security lines pretty quickly. the long lines many anticipated didn't materialize for the most part. the tsa deployed extra dog teams at the busiest airports. passengers reported short security lines at most major airports. and another major hacking incident, this time at the social network myspace. details of millions of myspace users have been stolen, and it's apparently all for sale. myspace reportedly had 75 million regular users. and anne-marie, there's a buzz high above the streets of new york city. i checked the top of one building in manhattan, where urban beehives are keeping the city buzzing. that story is coming up. anne-marie? >> that's very cool. looking forward to that. urban beehives are popping up all over the country. can't wait to hear more about it. >> it's very important in terms of bee shortage this country is facing.

here's a look at today's forecast in some cities around the country. beehives are breaking out in big cities across the country. jill wagner goes undercover. >> reporter: high above the busy streets of manhattan, an unlikely buzz. bees, tens of thousands of them, who call this skyscraper home. >> this is the third year that we've had bees atop one brian park. >> reporter: andrew is the beekeeper. he says the bees aren't aggressive, but he didn't want to take any chances. >> you are holding about a thousand bees.

landfall flooded the low country. 10 inches of rain fell on sunday. 9 people had to be rescued. more rain is on the way for parts of texas ravaged by deadly floods. crews near houston rescued dozens monday as rivers consumed land and homes. storms dumped 20 inches of rain over the state over the past few days. you don't have to be afraid to go into the water in new england thanks to a new shark sighting system. part of it has an app. new flags with a shark silhouette with warm swimmers great whites could be nearby. later this summer we can see where they are using the smartphones. they are developing an app that will let you monitor tagged great whites. you can post your own sightings on the eastern seaboard. caps

if we do see rain it would be father south as the remnants of bonnie pulls away. everybody else increasing sunshine. rather warm. take a look at satellite and radar r satellite and radar. you can see the moisture pulling from the east coast. those are the remnants of bonnie pulling away. a lot of sunshine later on. it was dry for most people. we saw a lot of clouds keeping the temperatures near 80. not the case today. a lot more sunshine. we will head to the mid- to upper-80s. winds are out of the southeast tonight. rather warm. by 10:00, 75 degrees. we will go through the rest of the week. rain chances on the lower side the next few days as we head into june. we will go through the weekend which may not be the same case. >> 4:30 is the time. typical workday grind on our roads this morning. no significant issues. it will be slow in the
