convention in cleveland. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. ted cruz came out and soaked up a one-minute longstanding ovation when he first appeared on stage but that warmth quickly turned frosty when he delivered what sounded more like a stump speech for himself and he refused to endorse the man who beat him. in fact, he only mentioned donald trump's name once. day three of the rnc was supposed to be all about vice presidential nominee mike pence. >> i accept your nomination to run and serve as vice president. >> reporter: but the indiana governor as moment became overshadowed by bad blood between donald trump and formal rival ted cruz. >> stand and speak and vote your conscience. vote for candidates up and down the ticket who you trust to defend our freedom and to be faithful to the constitution. >> reporter: the texas senator was enthusiastically booed during hir speech for failing

>> god bless the united states. >> reporter: the cheers quickly turned to jeers as trump entered the arena. he later brush odd of nonendorsement as no big deal via twitter saying i saw his speech two hours early but let him speak any way. hillary clinton used cruz's own words to capitalize on the moment, urging people to vote their conscience and choose her in november. cruz's last stage comes one day before trump takes center stage in cleveland tonight. reaction to delegates was mixed. >> if this guy wants to save his political future, he has to come to the table but it was an embarrassment. >> i think he gave a message that was clear but he also gave a message that wasn't forced so i think it was well said. >> reporter: eye van ka trump is excepted to speak tonight before her father accepts the gop presidential nomination.

politico is saying cruz is speaking to the reaction saying i had to speak the truth. it's going to be an interesting couple of days. the chips will fall where they may. cruz's supporters seem to be betting on his political future. hundreds greeted him chanting 2020. trump knew cruz refused to endorse him beforehand but he let him speak any way. bob schieffer says the trump's ticket may have stepped on its own toes. >> did they step on their own message tonight? >> well, i think -- i mean, for mike pence, that is kind of the tragedy here. he made a very fine political speech. but all of the stories tomorrow, all of the commentary is going to be about -- about -- about ted cruz getting booed off the stage, because he told people to vote their conscience. the republicans didn't want him to say that

they had the speech. why didn't they tell him not to appear? again, i don't understand who is kind of running this thing. >> why did they let ted cruz on stage? >> well, that is the part that remains something of a mystery, but we see this great divide now and the disorganization of the republican party. >> if it looks like hillary clinton has stayed out of the spotlight during the convention, her social media team has been working overtime as speakers have taken the stage over the past three nights. the clinton campaign has tweeted rapid responses to speeches and complimentary quotes her opponents said about her not so long ago. last night, mike pence was no exception, saying in 2005, i think hillary clinton is an enormously appealing individual. this is one of the most admired, not only women, but public people in america. it's widely reported that hillary clinton could announce her running mate as early as tomorrow or saturday. clinton will beam

before. an appeals court ordered changes to texas strict voter i.d. law. the law requires texas residents to show one of seven forms of identification when they vote. the federal court ruled the law discriminates against minorities and the poor. the obama administration had the justice department fight the case. election experts testified that blacks were three times more likely than whites to lack the acceptable i.d. a police shooting is under investigation in florida. the man who was shot is the caretaker of an autistic man. cell phone video shows therapist charles kinsey on the ground with his hand in the air. his patient was sitting in the street playing with a toy truck. kinsey, who is black, says he was obeying police orders and asked the officers not to shoot. >> i stick out my hand and i say, no, i just got shot. i'm saying, sir, why did you shoot
