way as possible. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. well, this morning, insiders are describing donald trump's transition to the white house as stalled and scrambling. the press assigned to cover the president-elect could say the same. photographers captured video of mr. trump passing them on his way to new york city. now, traditionally, the press would have been along for the ride in the motorcade, but the president-elect gave them the slip. the best updates on donald trump's whereabouts came from people eating at the same restaurant, posting pictures to twitter. and keeping with his tradition, mr. trump took to twitter himself to reassure americans his transition is on track. hena daniels is here in new york. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the president-elect spent about

a few blocks from his trump tower pent house. journalists were only aware he was leaving his home when they spotted a large motorcade leaving the building including with ambulance with lights flashing. moments later, trump took to social media maintaining his transition is not in disarray. president-elect donald trump issued this tweet tuesday night calling his transition to the white house, quote, very or knows who the finalists are. vice president-elect mike pens was leading the efforts and spent the day at trump tower narrowing those who will fill key cabinet posts. among those in the building were ted cruz and jeff sessions and steve mnunchin. >> we are making sure we get the

>> reporter: trump's transition may already be showing signs of turmoil. just days after new jersey governor chris christie was removed from his role as transition chair, former republican congressman mike rogers announced he was quitting the effort. in a tweet, elliott cohen, a former state department official under bush 43 called trump's team angry and arrogant and urging colleagues, quote, to stay away. back on capitol hill president-elect to fire steve bannon as chief strategist. >> as long as a champion of racial division is a step away from the oval office, it will be impossible to take trump's efforts to give a nation seriously. >> reporter: the republican governors gathered in orlando had a different view. >> he gets to choose whoever he wants to select. >> reporter: inauguration day is a little more than two months away. the trump transition did clear one hurdle last night.

she has led the house democrats for 14 years. for the fifth time in u.s. history, someone has been elected president by winning the electoral vote but having lost the popular vote. all of the votes have not been counted yet, but hillary clinton leads president-elect trump by about a million votes. retiring california senator barbara boxer issishing a bill to end the electoral college and calls outdated. coming up on "cbs this morning," a way to change the way this country elects a president. president obama's visit to greece sparked large protests in athens yesterday. this is mr. obama's final overseas trip as president. yesterday, he had what appeared to be words of advice for the incoming president. >> we are going to have to guard against a rise in a crude sort

the university of alabama yesterday and dayton won 77-72. denver approves marijuana in social settings. those are some of the headlines on the morning newsstand. the "los angeles times" says the city's police will not help deport immigrants during the trump administration. the chief of the kent says they will avoid federal immigration issues as it has for decade. crack down on undocumented immigrants. the houston chronicle reports of leaflets at southern methodist university and titled while white women shouldn't date black men. the school is investigating. the leaflets is for the supremacy movement called old right. a west virginia mayor endorsed a slur against the first lady. a facebook post by another

michelle obama an ape in heels. the mayor added a comment saying "the post" made her day. "wall street journal" reports increased backing for the american civil liberties union since donald trump's victory. the aclu says it's received more than a hundred thousand online donations totaling over 8.2 million dollars in the last week. the group says it is the biggest surge of support in its 96-year history. some sandy hook families are renewing their fight against gun companies. they want to connect it to the rifle used in the 2012 massacre. a judge dismissed their case but the families are asking for an appeal. "time" says denver is the first u.s. city to allow marijuana in bars and restaurants. a ballot question on the issue in last week's election had passed.

fashion label. at issue is a golden diamond bracelet worth nearly $11,000. she wore it during a "60 minutes" event on sunday. on monday, she sent an e-mail to fashion designers promoting the bracelet. the trump named is removed from three luxury apartment buildings here in new york city. about 600 residents and buildings signed an online petition saying they were embarrassed to live in buildings associated with mr. trump. the management said the purpose of the change is to have the buildings assume a neutral identity that appeals to all current and future residents. twitter is introducing a mute button in an effort to combat internet harassment. twitter users will be able to mute words and phrases and even emoji. twitter is criticized for not

harassment on their site. united airlines is introducing a new budget air fare in order to compete with discount airlines. starting in january, the airline will sell seats called basic economy. those passengers won't be able to pick their seat and they will be limited to a single carry-bag small enough to fit under the it's estimated the bolt will travel 240 miles on a full charge. its engine has 200 horsepower and costs about 30 grand. jill wagner at the new york stock exchange, thanks a lot, jill. still ahead, who is taking part in the stunt known as a mannequin challenge.
