threat. an armed man stormed a popular washington, d.c. restaurant to self-investigate a conspiracy theory. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. crews is searching the building and the death toll is expected to rise. believed as many as a hundred people attended friday night's party and the victims include 17-year-olds. the warehouse had no sprinklers and few exits. the building had been described as a cluttered death trap. edward lawrence is in oakland. good morning, edward. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. right now fire crews are inside that building, they are hoping to finish going through it later on today.

set up a block away outside there. very few people actually went to the hospital in this as one alameda county sheriff sergeant said, you either made it out or you didn't. as recovery teams continue to search the now charred site of oakland's ghost ship warehouse the only things the friends and family of the missing can do. this man was there with his girlfriend when a fire tore through the most of those confirmed dead so far range in age from teens to 35 years old. authorities say at least one of the victims was a 17-year-old minor. another a deputy's son. >> one of our deputies that we work with, lost his son in this fire. and so we are still dealing with that. >> reporter: the building wasn't permitted for events like the electronic dance party held here that night attended by 50 to 100

living but many artists call the warehouse home, including carmen. >> seeing everything like this orange wall of fire, it was -- i don't know. it felt like see ago monster. >> reporter: questions are now mounting over whether the fire was preventable. firefighters say the building had no springers. it's possible many ofse inside could not find the only way out. a make-shift stairway made of wooden pallets. the sheriff is asking people to hang on to dna sources like toothbrushes or hairbrushes. the crews are 50% of the way going through the building and trying to go through the rest of it later on today. no cause for the fire has been determined.
