peninsula. president trump said he hopes all sides exercise restraint. over the weekend north korea was ready to sink the u s"uss carl vinso vinson". south korea said it's in talks with the carrier group. they say it doesn't oppose an immediate risk. >> so long as they're on the other side of the world without a missile and nuclear weapon against the united states, they're not much of a threat right now except in the world of cyber. >> kelly said america must do, quote, just about anything to prevent the north from acquiring the capability that threatens the u.s. north korea tried to

a u.s. citizen. the state department said it's aware he's the third american held by north korea. in new orleans today history is being made and reconsidered. the city is starting to take down four monuments to the confederacy that are increasingly seen as representing racism. the mayor said the work is being dub overnight because some of the opponents of the plan have made death threats. the may 7th runoff will offer voters two candidates with dramatically different views on france's place in the european union and ultimately the future of europe. investment banker emmanuel macron will face off against marine le pen. elizabeth palmer reports from paris. >> reporter: many french voters who turned out didn't know who

child. they said, what we see on this video does not reflect our values or how we care for our customers. a fast moving fire that killed five people in new york city is under investigation. three of the victims were children. the fire tore through a wood framed home in queens across the river from manhattan yesterday afternoon. neighbors say they heard people screaming, "get the kids out." >> when i saw it, oh, my god, i could have fainted because i knew that that's pain h the house. the fire was so intense, there was no way in the world anybody could go in and save them. >> the victims ranked from 2 to 21. wet weather is helping to battle more than 100 wildfires across florida. 14 homes were destroyed in lee county. near the coast more t

today is a yellow weather alert day. now here's wusa9 first alert weather. >> more rain headed our way, absolutely. it's going to stick around for today and tomorrow, so let's head over and take

look at first alert live doppler. just some light showers around the d. c. area right now. a little bit drier for the prince george's county region and the right side of the beltway. grab your umbrella, you are going to need it today and tomorrow. kind of on and off. here we go once again. there will be times when it is a little bit drier. those rain showers are going to quickly move back on in. right along 66 there was not a dry spot to be found. the rain is pretty light, so we're not going to be dealing with flooding issues. there are going to be some areas with ponding on the side of the road. we got a chance to dry out a little bit yesterday, but today and tomorrow looking rather wet. the heavier pockets of rain are still to the south. taking a look at your futurecast, we are going to see a few hours of drier weather in the mid-morning, but after the lunch hour those rain showers are going to continue to be on and off. here's our drier time between about 8 and noon, but after noon chose will work their way back

wusa9. check it out, lots of green there on the first alert doppler. we are off to a rainy start this week. good morning, i'm jan jeffcoat with meteorologist allyson rae. mike's working hard in the background. kind of doing a little creepy thing back there. look at him. it was such a damp weekend s now we're seeing some of the after effects and more rain this week as well. >> it continues. with e had yesterday to enjoy. it was still on the cool side. saturday was a washout and today and tomorrow not looking much prettier. we could use a little bit of rain. let's take a look at satellite and radar. you can see this system to the south of us. it's just going to linger for a while. here it is. it's going to be here today and tomorrow. we have much better weather headed our way by the end of the week. we could use a little bit more rain. it kind of makes it feel

little dreary for monday. here we go again, a lot of these showers are going to add up in the shenandoah valley. anywhere west of here is having the brunt of all of this rain. light showers around tyson's corner through silver spring. i would grab the umbrella and little bit of patience today. it is cool out there. winds out of the northeast and breezy today. along 56 those showers will continue. 81 is very wet as well. you see parts of the region that dry out for a little bit and then we'll get back to the wet weather for this afternoon. let me show you your futurecast. the general trend especially for the afternoon are going to be more showers working their way through. most of the showers will be on the lighter side. you see those pockets of yellow, sometimes you run into an area where it picks up intensity and fades back down. by 6:30 we're still looking at showers around the region. that's why we have the yellow weather alert
