latest launch. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. a second wave of ransomware attacks are expected this morning as people return to work and boot up their computers, exciter experts fear new more y friday may be unleashed. it's still unclear who is responsible for the cyberattacks that hit organizations of all sizes. we spoke with an expert who helped contain the cyberattack. >> i would say that this is the worst ransomware attack that has ever happened. >> reporter: this 28-year-old cyber engineer says it took him ten minutes to analyze code that helped take down computers in more than 150 countries.

sample of the attack code and share it with another researcher to stop the problem? >> a lot of security researchers commonly use various methods of sharing samples and codes. sometimes it will be as simple as taking a screen shot from one of the programs that we use to reverse engineer malware such as this. >> reporter: he uncovered a kill switch and shared it on twitter. and halfway around the world, a british researcher stumbled on to the same solution stopping the spread of the cyberattack. but not before it affected at least 200,000 computers at hospitals, banks and government agencies. europe's policing agency director -- >> we have seen the rise of ransomware becoming the principale cyber threat, but the global reach is unprecedented. >> reporter: the attack forces users to pay $300 or risk their data being erased. he says less than 48 hours after

code had surfaced that allowed the ransomware to work without the kill switch. >> the huge concern right now are all the computers that are potentially going to be turned on at the beginning of this workweek and those could still be vulnerable to this. >> reporter: cbs news, los angeles. ahead on this morning o, wel speak to michael morell about the worldwide cyberattack. and following the firing of james koecomey, there could be major reboot at the white house. president trump is reportedly considering a massive staff shakeup according to multiple reports. the online media outlet reports the president is considering replacing press secretary sean spicer, chief of staff reince priebus and chief strategist steve bannon. a "wall street journal" nbc news poll finds 29% of those asked approve of the comey firing,

eight candidate, one of whom will ultimately lead the bureau's investigation as to whether anyone in the trump campaign colluded with russia. some democrats have expressed concerns about sessions who recused himself from the russian probe being involved in the process. >> i don't believe he should be part of this review process. >> reporter: the president has admitted he had russia on his mind when he terminated comey. on friday, he warned comey against leaking any negative information in a tweet. >> if there are tapes, the president should turn them over immediately of course to destroy them would be a violation of law. >> reporter: republican senator lindsey graham had this advice for president trump. >> i would advise the president trump not to tweet or comment about the investigation as we go forward. >> reporter: lawmakers from both parties are urging the president to steer clear of picking any politicians for comey's replacement. any nominee must be confirmed by the senate. meanwhile president trump holds

today with the crown prince of abu dhabi ahead of his first overseas trip as commander in chief. >> hannah, thank you. this morning north korea claimed the missile it launched yesterday is a newly developed ballistic missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. this is just released video the north says is sunday's launch. u.n. surt down on stiecurity co expected to hold an emergency session tomorrow. >> reporter: according to u.s. intelligence, the medium range miss sl kn 17 was launched near north korea's west coast. japan's military says it reached an altitude of more than 1200 miles before splashing down into the sea. it landed about 60 miles off the coast of russia. it was the first successful test after a string of recent

failures. the regime continues to test banned ballistic missiles despite worldwide condemnation. but the u.s. military says the flight pattern of the launch was not consistent with the intercontinental ballistic missile, the type that could reach the u.s. mainland. in january, north korean dictator kim jong-un said an icbm test wassism neb issism im. and it comes days after south korea elected a new president who wants to engage pyongyang, not isolate it. but his spokesman says dyiialog is only possible if north korea changes course. the white house called for stronger sanction and pointed out that the missile landed near russian territory adding that president trump, quote, cannot imagine that russia is pleased. russia's president expressed concern over the launch in beijing. china called for restraint and

china's north korea's only major ally and has been pushing for negotiations. france's new president says the divisions and fractures across french society must be overcome. emmanuel macron was sworn in yesterday. at 39, he is the youngest president in french history. after the inauguration, he visited a military hospital. macron was elected promising to strengthen the european union. and jet blue is disputing an account from a new jersey family that claims it was kicked off a plane for storing a birthday cake in the overhead bin. >> jet blue? >> the bird family was flying from new york to las vegas on may 3 when a flight attendant told them to remove the cake from the overhead bin. they say they moved to the floor were were be rated by another crew member. in a statement jet blue says the customers became
