the desperate rescue of a caught on video. a burning roof fell on him saturday during a blaze at a gas station in the upper peninsula. the department says he and another firefighter who was hurt at the scene are both okay. well, tight security along the southern u.s. border has smugglers looking for new ways to transport drugs and people into this country. chris martinez shows us how smugglers are now hitting the water with their hauls. >> reporter: in the open waters off the san diego coast, border protection agents keep an eye on every vest. >> on a slow day, you stop everybody. >> reporter: with security tighter on u.s./mexico border, agents say smugglers are turning on the high seas to transport drugs and people. >> we find that they're going farther offshore and farther up the coast. >> reporter: this agent says smugglers typically follow a similar pattern.

apch now. areas south and east of d. c. including charles county, prince george's county and down through st. mary's, you guys are going to deal with the showers a little longer than everybody else. this is pushing off to the north and east. showers will be last to leave areas into the southern maryland region. 7:00 this morning, it's going to be wet around the area all the way from hagerstown down through fredericksburg. not a lot of dry spots for your morning commute. however, i do think this is overdoing it about the amounts of rain. we're drying out for areas west of the 95. we'll see cloudy skies and warm temperatures today. we're still staying into the upper 70s. now, ellen, we have a lot more rain to go through for the next few days. we'll be timing everything out. >> all right. and i hollered out this alert to allyson, i'm seeing an alert for fog on the beltway as you

pass over bridge between there and gw parkway. that makes sense. as you head out there morning, might see some fog on the roadways. i did find a traffic lane camera near this area. you're going to see a little more fog this morning than normal. in addition to that, we had a crash on 395. if you're heading northbound on 395, little river turnpike and duke street. we'll keep checking those reports and let you know if 395 has any problems. let's check on your top stories, the university of maryland student included of stabbing a student is going to be in court today. there will be a vigil for the victim. >> president trump spent the weekend in saudi arabia where he signed is $10 billion arms deal with that nation.

the rain is here, and it's going to stick with us for e right through northwest d. c. we're dealing with light showers. it will be heavy at times, but the general trend is light to moderate. this is 7:30 in the morning. your morning commute is not looking good anywhere you go, along 95, along 66. areas in southern maryland, the showers stick around for a while. this is 11:00. we're drying out along 81, drying out along 66. not so much for areas south of d. c. it will start to let up this afternoon. mainly a morning event. temperatures still have a chance to reach into the mid to upper 70s. this is all ahead of a cold front. so we're staying into the 60s for much of the day, and then once that rain starts to taper off, we will head to the mid- 70s. then tomorrow noticeably cooler behind the front. we have more chances for rain, though, as we head through tomorrow and wednesday. we'll map it out for you. as far as fog or visibility, it's not dropping too low just

yet. dulles your visibility is at 3 lower visibility if you travel along 81 south of harrisburg. >> i don't see alerts on my maps a lot for fog but i am having one this morning on the beltway between gw parkway, clara barton parkway. watch out in that area. we looked to that traffic lane camera before. you can get by, not heavy traffic yet. it's just going to be kind of that ugly commute. we'll let you know if more fog sets into the area. 395 northbound we did have an accident. it has cleared by duke street and little river turnpike. we have some delays as you come toward 395 as you're heading west. on the beltway, branch avenue, reports of construction there. that's pretty standard. i also saw an additional alert in that area. once i zoomed in here, i'm not seeing actually very slow traffic on the beltway or branch avenue. maybe watch out as you pass through that area.
