an outcast wins big at a broadway popularity contest, plus the penguins cap an improbable playoff run. >> and the pittsburgh penguins again are the stanley cup champions! good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. attorney general jeff sessions is scheduled to testify before the senate intelligence committee tomorrow. lawmakers want to know about his contacts with russian officials and what sessions knows about former fbi director james comey's allegations regarding president trump. meanwhile president trump's fell fellow republicans are pressing him if he has tapes with comey in washington. weijia jiang

>> it ought to be very interesting. weijia jiang in washington. thank you so much, weijia. well, it was one year ago today that a gunman opened fire in gay nightclub in orlando killing 49 people. omar mateen fired his first shots around 2:00 a.m. last call at the pulse club's latin night. this morning's ceremonies began at the same time marking one year since the first mass shooting in recent history. the central florida city is marking the anniversary with orlando united day including four services to remember the victims. kenneth craig is in orlando. kenneth, good morning. >> reporter: well, good morning to you, anne-marie. quite a large crowd gathered at the club early this morning for the first of the day's convenience. it was a private tribute for family members and survivors marking one year since a lone gunman walked into the club and shattered so many

have predicted how their worlds would collide, but over the past year, they've built a special bond over their children. >> our kids are angels. they put us together. >> you're connected in an unimaginable way that nobody else shares. >> something special, beautiful. >> reporter: they formed this support group in the wake of the pulse nightclub massacre when each one of their children went out for a night of fun and never came home. they were among 49 people who were gunned down by omar mateen. 53 others were injured. >> he loved to go there. >> myra's daughter was just 20 years old. >> she was a leader. she knew where she was going. her plans were shattered. they were takenwa

a northwestern neighborhood was captured yesterday followed two days of intense fighting. 12 isis gunmen were killed including a commander. a battle for remainder of the city could be a major turning point in the war against the militants. a major airline suffered. there was a gaping hole in the side of the engine casing and passengers said they heard a loud noise and smelled something burning. no one was injured. the defense is expected to begin presenting itself case today in the bill cosby sexual assault trial. it's unclear if cosby will testify. the prosecution rested its case friday, five days after the case opened. andrea constand said cosby drugged and molested her, charges cosby denies. another round of thunderstorms is expected today

filed against president trump today by the attorneys general of maryland and the district of columbia. it focuses on spending by foreign governments at the new trump hotel in washington, and the a.g.s say they will seek the president's personal tax records if a federal judge lets the case proceed. the "wall street journal" reports the voters for puerto rico want to vote. fewer registered went to the polls. those opposed organized boyco boycotts. >> "the new york times" supports growing support in france for the new president. emmanuel macron's party made gains. the results are another blow to the country's traditional party. the "associated press" says judy garland will be laid to rest in a tomb burying her name at the

>> good morning, anne-marie. the federal policy meeting will start tomorrow. the fed will decide whether to raise interest rates again. last week the dow gained 57 points, the s&p lost 7 points. uber's board met yesterday on whether to place travis kalanick on leave. last week uber announced that it fired about 20 employees. the chevy bolt will go on sale nationwide in august. chevy's electric car has been on sale in california and oregon since the end of last year. the bolt costs about $30,000 and has an epa estimate of about 230 miles. "wonder woman" remains at the top of the box office. tom cruise's "the mummy" which

the hot weather it is here, good morning, and welcome to wake up washington. we are going to see forecast highs very close to tieing if not breaking record highs. 95 is the forecast here in d.

we're going so see low and mid- 90s through fredericksburg, leesburg, 93 in fredericksburg this afternoon and in manassas 95. we're starting off this morning, you're going to walk out the door heading to work putting the kids to the bus stop, going to school, it will feel muggy out there. 76 degrees right now. fair skies, but humidity is up. we've got dew points in the upper 60s. that means it is feeling muggy out there. the temperature in frederick in the 60s, but a lot of spots are waking up in the 70s. leesburg 70, 72 in fredericksburg, and waldorf is 70. 65 in manassas. so it's muggy today. let's talk about what's on the way for this afternoon. it's going to be sunny just like yesterday. it's going to be hot, and we're going to stay dry for the duration of today. so no relief from that heat. by lunchtime we're up around 90 degrees topping out in the low and mid-90s. we'll talk about when the end to the 90s arrives. you may not be looking forward to that. >> i

we were debating yesterday my husband and i. okay, do we try to water it in the evenings and salvage it or wait until the heat is done. we've got south winds about 5 miles an hour, and it's feeling muggy out there. for today, this is what i'm expecting. by lunchtime we've got a very quick warmup. we're starting in the 60s and 70s this morning. as the sun comes up we're up to 90 by lunchtime. today is not one of those days to eat your lunch outside. 87 degrees at 8 p.m. ellen's not going to like this, but there are 80s returning to the forecast, so we'll be talking that coming up in a lit. >> good thing i'm a flight on wednesday headed to the beach. if you're on 355 u yoare going to have some construction, and then very close to here on the outer loop of the beltway, i think i just jumped past it at connecticut avenue we also have construction.
