good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. this holiday weekend budgets threat on the shut down two states. in new jersey nonessential services have already been closed. governor chris christie of new jersey and his family had island state beach park all to themselves yesterday, one of the beaches he shut down. it was closed to the public, but the governor has a residence there. tony dokoupil has more on the budget failures. >> reporter: instead of relaxing, residents are protesting this weekend because those parks and more than 50 ore state recreation areas are closed. >> i'm pissed off. it's the holiday weekend. what about the kids that had birthdays and paid to rent here. ite note fair. it put state services

illinois hasn't had a budget in three years. maine and new jersey began partial shutdowns over the weekend. >> here we are at an impasse. government is closed over a transparency and accountability fight. i'm at a loss. >> reporter: new jersey governor chris christie ordered the shutdown, but on hundreds of buildings he put the blame on prieto. prieto is refusing a plan to increase premiums for drug addiction. so far the shutdown is mainly being felt at major parks like this one. thousands o state workers are furloughed. >> we want to work. we want to work. >> reporter: state employees in maine are already out of work follows a tax impasse between governor paul lepage and democrat legislature. >> i'm so sorry that

justice. in chicago demonstrators accused the president of colluding with the russians during the election, and in milwaukee dozens said they are tired of the administration and called for change. a man suspected in the kidnapping of a missing chinese student in illinois is due in court today. brent allen christenson was arrested friday on suspicion of kidnapping. he's been linked to an online fetish forum, perfect abduction. she was last seen june 9th getting into a car belonging to christenson. authorities do not believe she is alive, but a body has not been found. and in pennsylvania, the suspect in a dead le road rage incident turned himself in. police say david desper had a permit to carry a gun that he used to shoot saundra more gabson to

and third-degree murder charges. >> this is the story of a savage and senseless murderer. >> reporter: district county attorney said he shot 118-year-old in the left side of the head killing her instantly. witnesses say the two were jockeying for position shortly before her car careened off the road. >> because somebody didn't want her to give way. somebody didn't want her to merge into a lane of traffic. hundreds of tips began pouring in about the incident at the red chevy pickup truck caught on cameras. >> that red pickup truck takes off like a bat out of hello. the pickup was found nine miles. they located his residence and search and found a handgun possibly used. not before roberson's parents

the skywest flight had just arrived yesterday from aspen. everyone aboard evacuated safely. the fire was extinguished, but the cause was not known. and there was a plane crash on a busy freeway as well as a drug bust ininvolving fake lettuce. those are some of the headlines on the morning newsstand. the "los angeles times" reports that a couple injured in a plane crash is recovering. their small plane crashed on a free whooi while trying to land on the john wayne airport. an off-duty firefighter jumped from his car to pull them from the burning wreckage. >> it's amazing they weren't burned. a lot of angels were over them. >> no one was hurt. the pilot reported losing power in one of two engines. there was a partial derailment of an amtrak train south of tacoma. a few suffered m

here's a look at today's forecast in some cities around the country. surplus bread usually goes to waste but a new york brewery has a new way to slice it. how they turn leftover loaves into beer. >> reporter: it's 7:30 in the morning and madelyn holtzman has more bread than she can carry. they're not going in the crash. they'll eventually wind up in a glass. >> today alone we rescued 500 pounds and this is a relatively small scaled brew. >> that's a lot of bread. >> it's a lot of bread and it's not hard to do. >> the hoppy treat was made from surplus bread at grocery stores. >> all of the magic is happening in these two breads.

corridor. this is what today looks like as we roll through the third day of this holiday weekend, 93 with a stray storm. in terms of traffic, i think it's going to be a fairly light day. i think a lot of folks are going to take the day off today and stay home because of the holiday on tuesday. so we'll see how things shape up. of course right now we're doing well on the inner and outer loop, 295 flowing freely in both directions. doing well in virginia. if you're traveling northbound on i-395 over the 14th street bridge or eastbound on i-66 working your way in from areas like centreville. around the beltway you can see all in the green, especially over the wilson bridge. 295 also doing well as you work your way out of oxon hill into the district. for those of you traveling southbound on the bw parkway trying to work your way into town, you won't find any problems making your way into the metro this morning, also from frederick into bethesda, you're looking
