good morning from the studio 57 news room at cbs news headquarters in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. the seven year republican effort to repeal and replace obamacare suffered what may be a fatal blow. two more gop senators say they will not back the bill. that means republicans don't have enough votes to bring it up in a chamber they control. we are in washington. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, ann marie. it is president trump's top agenda issue, this promise to repeal and replace and create a better health care system, as the president describes. it is one of his top campaign promises. it's been a top priority for republicans on capitol hill for nearly eight years. after all that time,

still not ready. in a statement late last night. senate majority leader, mitch mcconnell, said, the ef for the to repeal and replace obamacare will not be successful. it fell apart when two more senators announced they are against it. others headed down the same path. >> i find the story about leader mcconnell's comments about medicaid reform too far in the future. it would be troubling. that might put the vote in jeopardy. >> reporter: with all democrats expected to vote against it. the gop could only lose two of its own. they said republicans should just repeal and work on a new health care plan from a new slate, dems will join in. a plan that involves repealing obamacare with a

the president was touting golf clubs in new jersey where he was v.i.p. at the women's tournament. he promoted the event. visits to his own properties raised ethical terms because they own and profit from the company. the ethics cheech resigned over this issue, which he tried to raise in november, but the president's lawyer shouted him down. >> one of the suggestions we hoped to communicate is even if you are not going to sell them, commit to staying away. >> reporter: since becoming president, he's made 36 visits to trump properties in florida and d.c. he hasn't stayed at any non-trump resort. sean spicer was asked if trump brands would commit to making in america. he said

comment but certain supply chains may not be available in the u.s. prosecutors from around the country gathered to hear attorney general jeff sessions plans for cracking down on crime. he spoke yesterday in minneapolis to the national district attorney's association. he wants authorities involved in enforcing immigration laws. >> we admit 1.1 million people to permanent legal residency in the united states. we are a very generous nation. we have every right to say what the rules are and enforce those rules. >> sessions said the justice department is developing policies to increase seizures of cash and property. using that tactic before there's proof of a crime is opposed by civil liberty groups and members of congress. iran is complying with the 2013 nuclear deal. the report to congress

there will be no change in the easing of sanctions against iran. administration officials say iran will face charges for ballistic missiles and other activities. the star tribune of minneapolis is reporting new details of the shooting of a meditation teacher by a police officer. three people say she was standing on the driver's side of the squad car when the officer in the passenger seat fired. the coroner says she died of an abdominal wound. pdeepening the grief of her lovd ones. >> thank you for being here. >> reporter: the emotional reaction by her fiance is demanding answers. >> we have been provided with almost no additional information from law enforcement regarding what happened after police arrived. >> reporter: he said his fiance called

report a possible sexual assault outside their home. instead, the soon-to-be bride ended up on the wrong side of a gun. the 40-year-old australian native was a yoga teacher and life coach. >> she was a teacher to so many and living a life of openness, love and kindness. >> reporter: a lawyer for a police officer confirmed he was the officer who opened fire. in a facebook post, they welcomed the somali officer to the force. now, she's joining the cries for answers. >> i share the same questions other people have about why we don't have body cam footage of it. >> reporter: they are equipped with body cameras but they were not on during the shooting. now, they are trying to piece together her last moments that came to a tragic end.

area. it's already been a nightmare in the summer for the new york city subway system. yesterday it was a track fire and mechanical issues that caused huge delays. you can see the extremely overcrowded stations and then of course the trains were packed with cranky commuters and the evening commute. the governor cuomo declared the mta was it in a current state of emergency. they want answers about the death of justine damond. she was shot and killed after calling 9-1-1 after reporting what she believed was an active sexual assault. two police officers were wearing body cameras at the time, but they were not turned on. authorities have not released any additional information. the united states is off to a stormy start in 2017 tieing the second most natural disasters on record from january through june. so far in 2017, the

rain yesterday, watch out for some fog. we know that gaithersburg did had a good storm come through yesterday. we're dry right now on first alert live doppler, but some pop-up thunderstorms will occur later on this afternoon, and with this setup just like yesterday, yeah, some of these could easily be strong to severe. heavy downpours, gusty winds and also some frequent lightning. by 1:00 we're still dry. then when we get the heating of the day, this is 3:30. showers and thunderstorms will start to form. some areas completely dry. some areas get a severe thunderstorm. that's how it was yesterday. that's how it will be again today. what about your rain chances for the week as the temperatures continue to climb. we'll get to those numbers coming up. good morning, a live look on the beltway. if you're by the beltway by route 5 or branch avenue, here's the traffic. not bad. some construction reported in this area. it's not slowing you down as you're headed out on the beltway. you will see small delays on new jersey avenue at route 50 or new york av.
