rescue operation is underway for at least ten american sailors missing after a us. navy warship collided with a tanker. uss john s. mccain collided early this morning. suffered significant damage and five sailors were injured. it's the second collision involving a u.s. navy ship in just two months. good morning, the uss john s. mccain arrived at a singapore naval base this morning. it happened in one of the world's busiest ports. the injured sailors were evacuated but the search for ten more missing sailors continues. since the uss john s. mccain collided last night with an oil tanker while heading to singapore on a routine port call in the south china sea. video shows a gaping hole in the port side of the guided missile destroyer. >> i h

empowering. >> and an experience that few will ever forget. cbs news st. joseph, missouri. >> cbs news will bring you a two hour special report with correspondents coast-to-coast covering the eclipse. begins at 1:00 p.m. eastern, noon central here on cbs. this morning the u.s. and south korea began annual military drills that north korea warns could trigger, quote the uncontrollable phase of a nuclear war. the 11 day training exercise involves 17,000 american and 50,000 south korean troops. this years drills come amid the heightened tensions. north korea launched two intercontinental missiles last month. president trump will outline the new strategy for the war in afghanistan during a televised address to the nation tonight. there's currently about 8400 u.s. troops in afghanistan in a war that began 16 years ago

advisers over the weekend at camp david the president is expected to accrue sending 4,000 more troops to fight taliban insurgen insurgence. spanish officials are searching for a moroccan born man suspect of driving that van that plowed through a crowded promenade in barcelona. officials believe the suspect was part of the 12 person terrorist cell that also attacked the beach side resort in spain. five with were shot dead by police and two died when bombs they were assembling explode odd. well, tributes are pouring in for jerry lewis. you may remember him as a master comic and entertainment giant or the long time host of the muscular dystrophy telethon. he died yesterday at 91 in his home in

>> reporter: jerry lewis was born to make us laugh. he spent his youth performing in the cat skills in the clubs performing a comedy routine that would launch a life long career. one lucky day in 1946 he was paired with a low key singer named dean martin. as he told sunday morning in 2016. >> i fell in love with him the day we met. >> it was the cool crooner and the crazy kid. the duo starred in dozens of pill ms and tv specials before parting ways after a decade. >> we needed to escape one another. >> reporter: on his own lewis would go on to make more than 30 movies, writing and directing many. the adoring french gave him the legion of honor but back home

away. but even when the movies stopped jerry lewis was always there. for more than 40 years on the muscular dystrophy telethon. then there was this. a surprise reunion after 20 years. >> all my backstage people, everybody knew. >> thank you so much. >> reporter: he was admired by many and was-vil villified othe. he raised nearly 2 billion for the charity. jerry lewis had his own health problems, cancer, heart, and lung disease but through it all he kept performing even into his 90s. >> like my daughter said dad would you like not to make 90. >> i said no, i'm very happy. >> reporte j
