week. >> the most important thing that you can do if you're affected by the storm is to put your life and the protection of your life first and foremost. >> harvey is still going and it's not going anywhere for a while. there are more than 1,000 people assigned to search and rescue separations. near corpus christi today the coast guard rescued 17 people whose vessels were in distressed. the governor of teak has issued a disaster for 50 down trees. this morning galveston got pounded. >> look at the palm trees behind me. this is an all too familiar scene here whenever there's a hurricane or tropical storm. you can see the wins starting to pick up over the past couple minutes. you can't make out the ocean but the high ti tide is starting to come in. >> millions are in danger of potentially catastrophic flooding. more than three feet of rain could fall in some places. jeff linder is with

county flood control where houston is located. >> we are just getting into this. so people need to understand that, that the longevity of this is going to go through the weekend and even into the early part of next week. >> nearly 300,000 power outages have been reported and corpus christi is under a boil of water. in rock port at least ten people were jury when the roof of a senior housing complex collapsed. hundreds of people were evacuated from a hotel there last night. >> it's exposed. harvey is no joke. >> the manager of this store facility in katy says a tornado crossed a freeway early this more than before slamming right into his billing. >> my apartment called me in the morning about 6:00 and said the whole building was destroyed the town dough came through about 5:30 across i-10. totally ruined the office. >> about 200 miles down the coast from where i am in galveston is the town of rockport one of several

saw what officials don't want to see. people driving through standing water that is only expected to rise. it's not just the rainfalling here, all the rain fall north of victoria over the next several days will eventual flow back this way only adding to the prolonged flood disaster. demarco. >> manny, thank you. at least six tornados were reported today across texas and louisiana. no reports of serious injuries or damage. now let's bring in scott padgett our meteorologist. what's the latest, scott. >> de marco the latest is harvey is still a tropical storm a dangerous storm. those feared bands are all the way through east texas and into southwest louisiana. this storm almost 400 miles across with those bands and the wind is sustained at 65 miles per hour. the movement it is stationary. that is dangerous. we're going to deal with at that time strawic floodingm

harvey the next few days. forecast track just coming in has it by late tonight still over the same area. still a tropical storm by sunday afternoon and down to a tropical depression bay late sunday into monday. then over the same area of land by monday afternoon as a tropical depression then turning due north into tuesday and into wednesday even closer towards thursday getting towards psart of central texas. a lot of rain is going to be with harvey over the next few days already since midnight a foot of rain. as we widen out the view a lot of rain, here's that forecast for the rain totals as we go through tuesday, wednesday, thursday, possibly 30 inches of rain in some localized spots. we'll deal with significant flooding as we go through the next couple days even with a foot of rain near houston and college station. demarco. >> scott, thank you. we'll have another update on the storm later on the broadcast. for now let's go to reena ninan for the rest of today's news. j

president trump set off a political storm friday night pardoning joe arpaio. cona sentence that illegally targeted latinos. at the whitehouse. >> sheriff joe can feel good. >> president trump made his plans clear at a campaign rally in phoenix on tuesday. >> do you know what, i'll make a prediction, i think he's going to be just fine, okay. >> after the running of his presidential pardon late friday joe arpaio made his feelings clear too. >> i always said regardless of pardon or no pardon i will be with him to the end. >> but arizona republican senators john mccain and jeff flake denounced the decision with mccain saying it's under minds the president's claim for the respect to rule of law. the aclu called the pardon an endorsement of race subpoena. >> it's no brain

endorse him. >> his affinity with arpaio reaches back before the election. in 2012 trump congratulate it arpaio about obama's birth certificate. america's toughest sheriff arpaio run election in maricopa down toe for two decades but aged to be mistreating inmates in his jail in phoenix. he was convicted of criminal content last month facing six months in jail but defying a judge's order to stop detaining people solely on the suspicion that they were in the country illegally. president trump said arpaio was pardoned because of his life work protecting people from crime and illegal immigration. the professor says five year period outlined by the department of justice is obviously being ignored. >> it does not appear that the department of justice and their pardon office were in here or signed off on this pardon.

during john f. ken disease's presidency. hurricane harvey now in tropical storm hit with 130 mile an hour winds. at least one person is dead. today the governor of texas expanded a disaster declaration to 50 counties. 1800 of the national guard are being activate to conduct search and rescue operations. the storm canceled flights forced shipped to change course and shutdown gas and oil facilities along the texas gulf coast. the coming days will bring more rain up to three feet. president trump is monitoring the storm from camp david, maryland. >> the head of fema said today the recovery from hurricane harvey will take years. >> thank you for that demarco. if you would like to help the victim of hurricane harvey go to red cross.org or text the word harvey to the 0709 take a
