anything. >> more women come forward accusing of sexual . and challenges with the secretary of state. good morning from the stuld yoes 57 newsroom at cbs headquarter here in new york. good to be with you. i'm an ma ee green. one official describes the scene as pure devastation. after a string of fast and deadly fires. at least 17 have been killed and 200 missing. more than 2,000 homes and businesses have been destroyed. 17 fires are burning across seven counties and several more days of hot, dry, windy weather, fire-friendly weather is on tap. >> reporter:

people here in santa rosa are now homeless. take a look around me. this is the scene around this whole area. and just when you thought it couldn't get worse, a new emergency overnight. officials have called for more evacuations as these fires continue to burn out of control. smoke and flames burned through structures the northern california's wine country into the night as fire officials updated the public on efforts to stop the spreading. >> we're here to help, we're here to do the best we can, to stop this fire, to prevent any other loss. >> reporter: across the region stunned residents are taking account. >> just bought $420 worth of clo clothes on sale, and all my clothes are gone. >> reporter: this consumed the

trailer park. numerous wineries also went up in flames. >> a lot of people lost their houses and lost everything, so i think we can rebuild this. >> reporter: fire officials hope improved weather conditions will help contain some of these fires. in the meantime crews are in neighborhoods putting out hot spots and trying to protect the homes that are still standing. >> this is nowhere near over. this is very dangerous. >> reporter: the sonoma county sheriff says search teams including members of the california national guard have alrea already begun scouring for missing people. >> that team of 30 found 110 people safely today. >> reporter: the source of a lot of confusion around who is missing is the power is out, cell phone service is down. officials doan know if people are not answering their phones or they're not getting calls. so right now they're urging people

declare themselves safe. danielle nottingham, cbs news, santa rosa. some 400 miles south of the wine country fires there's another fire threatening thousands of fires in orange county. the so-called canyon fire destroyed 14 building and damaged over 20 others. at least 7,500 acres have burned but it is now 40% contained. most evacuation orders were lifted last night. the theme park remained open despite the orange glow. ash fell on some nearby neighborhoods and some residents said they had trouble breathing. ahead on "cbs this morning" carter evans and john blackstone with more on the wild devastating fires. well, the board

ronen pharoah of the "new yorker" spoke to 13 women who all claimed between the 1990s and 2015 weinstein sexually harassed or assaulted the women. three called it rape. it was said any allegations of nonconsensual sex are unee kalle. >> do you think your reporting will change anything? >> i think that for these women it already has. they have done something that sends a message about accountability. >> i spoke to an attorney who's an executive who referred to one of the claims all part of weinstein's serial misconduct. in las vegas, the city's naal

the dow jones gained 69 points, reaching another record high. walmart was responsible for nearly half that gain. the nasdaq finished seven points higher. driver's license numbers were reportedly included the information supposed in that massive cyber security breach at equifax. last month they said the private information of more than 145 million people was compromised. besides social security number, birth dates and addresses, the hack also exposed the driver's license numbers of over 11 million people. facebook's cce mark zuckerberg apologized for what's described as a tone deaf virtual reality tour. >> it appears we're here in puerto rico. >> the presentation shows

deaths. thousands of people have evacuated to safety as fires continue to spread. today is october 11th. we have a look at what the white house is doing to help those in the fire's path ahead on "wake up washington." thanks for joining us, i'm jan jeffcoat >> glad you're with us, i'm mike hydeck. a yellow alert day. enough of the soup already. boy. good morning, miri. >> good morning. hey, litch, we've got a cold front on the way and that's going to help cool us off just a little bit. although the moisture, we're going to keep that hanging around at least the next day or two. this is the yellow alert, we do have these showers and thunderstorms just to our south and they may actually drift up north to our area. notice how they're in a straight line and sort of drifting right there. that's because they are formed along a front that is stuck right there. it will drift, but it's not doing so right now. that's why we'll gradually see them pushing up. but rich mopped and charlottesville are the areas really seeing an impact now. in fact, there's some flash flood watches

going on at least until the 5:00 a.m. hour. la platta about to get some rain right now. d.c. some light showers pushing in, but heavier showers on the way in. we can see that increasing as the morning drive really get noose full gear. that's why we have the yellow alert issued. next few hours look like this, this is 5:38 a.m. you can see the bulk of the heaviest rain is to our south. however that, is going to change. some of that will drift up north in our direction by 8:30 a.m. we could begin to see some of that moderate to heavier rain pushing into the area impacting your drive, especially if you're coming out of virginia at that hour, and then by 10:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m., still looking at the scattered showers. and even if the models aren't necessarily showing that moderate to heavy rain right here, it doesn't mean that it's not possible. it's just a model. it can't tell you everything, so we could still see those pockets pop up, even if it's not showing up on this particular futurecast model. 5:30 p.m. we still got some showers going. so it's very possible that you'll see rain in the morning and on the way

could see those thunderstorms popping up as well. ellen. >>reporter: all right, miri. we have an accident 395 heading southbound. so as you pass by king street, southbound 395 you'll run into probably a problem over on the shoulder. then this second alert on 395 is as you are heading northbound. there is construction happening by little river turnpike. outer loop of the beltway top side we have our typical construction up here. it's blocking a couple lanes as you're passing through the georgia avenue area. also 66 eastbound right by route 50 in fair oaks we have construction as well that's going to be blocking just a couple lanes. but right now no delays from any of that. >> ellen, thank you. breaking news right now out of northwest. police investigating a triple shooting that happened earlier this morning. two of those people are dead. the investigation still under way, but we do have some information about a suspect. hilary lane joins us live right now. hillary, what do we know? >>reporter: a black series

at the scene. this happened a little after midnight and 4 1/2 hours later police are still out here. and a lot of the activity is focused on this tan home right here with the white banster and porch. police are continuing to walk in and out. police say surrounding that home in the front and the back. we've also seen about a half dozen investigators searching for clues around this home. and also the cars around this home, jan, as you mentioned three people were shot here a little after midnight. those three people were taken to the hospital. two people died there, one person is recovering. we don't know a lot about these victims. who are they, are they related, did the suspect know the victim. investigators are here still trying to figure all of that out. again, police are looking for a black series bmw that left the scene a little after midnight. if you have any information, you're asked to call washington d.c. police. we have much more information on our website and on our wusa 9

in northwest d.c., hilary lane, wusa 9. >> thank you, hillary. two full days and counting and the wildfires in california continue to burn. the death toll is now at 17 and at least 180 people have been injured. more than 2,000 homes and businesses have been torched by these flames. now, the fires are primarily in northern california's wine country. it's already being billed as among the deadliest fires in state history. greg mills is in santa rosa with the latest. >>reporter: it's been more than 48 hours and wildfires still continue to burn out of control in northern california. >> this is no where near over. it is still very dangerous. >>reporter: first responders and elected officials held a public community meeting at santa rosa high school. residents eager to return to their houses were asked to remain patient. >> we want you back in your homes sooner than later, but we gotta keep everybody alive first and everybody safe first and all of our resources are on that, evacuation, moving people out. >>reporter: those were able to return home
