he's now off the job because of how he allegedly acted when the cameras were off. we're hearing reports of lewd messages, text messages, and even worse. nc matt lauer's co-host found out about firing just houring before going on the air. the source said nbc fired him at 10:00 p.m. the previous night. in an e-mail to staff the nbc chairman cited a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior. nbv said it started during the 2014 sochi olympics and continued in the workplace after the games. >> he really used his power in these situations. >> they spent two months investigating lauer's conduct for "variety" magazine. among the allegations they uncovered, he allegedly dropped his pants in front of an employee and rep panhandled her for not engaging in

act. in "the new york times" one woman said he sexually assaulted her in her office until she passed out with her pants pulled halfway down. >> it wasn't just matt lauer's inappropriate conduct with women, but there were higher level officials that knew and spoke openly about it. >> in a statement, they say they were never made aware. he joined katie couric at "today" in 1997. >> i want to say imeechl looking forward to working with you. >> she joked about him and higgs behavior in an interview. >> what are some of his most annoying habits? >> he pinches me on the ass a lot. >> the comment in front of meredith

>> keep hanging around like that. that's a nice view. >> neither katie couric nor meredith vieira have yet commented. as we mentioned, this follows cbs news firing of charlie rose over reports of sexual misconduct at his pbs program. of course, our thoughts are with savannah and our colleagues over at nbc and there with the women who had to endure all of this and were brave enough to come forward. >> women and matt's wife. i'm thinking about her. >> and their three children. >> three children who are old enough to read and follow all of this. it's a very sad story for everybody involved on many different levels. >> what's haunting about this as shocked and saddened we are, think of these young women who looked up to these towering media figures and in some cases were heartbroken by them and they felt trapped. >> i think that's the main part about these stories, how they

be feeling during this time. >> i mentioned this last week. women will not achieve full equality in the workplace until there's a reckoning and taking of responsibility. the point is many women have left journalism because of treatment like this. that's the story i keep hearing over and over again. these are women who contribute to this field and that's true of many over professional fields. that's the painful thing. good, good people have left professions that could have stayed or wanted to. >> it's hard when the person is your superior. >> the conversation has started. >> this is the reckoning. >> i think the panel that we did last week, i think it was jane rosenthal who said pandora's box has opened and pandora's pissed. i keep hearing there's more to come. what does that mean? i don't know. >> i'm looking down at my phone and this is a live broadcast

we're being told matt lauer has put out a statement. he did not comment all day yesterday. he put out a statement. here it is. he said there are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain i have caused others by the words and actions of the people i have hurt. i am truly sorry. as i write this, i'm aware of the depth and damage left at home. some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized but there's enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed or shamed and i regret it's now shared with my family. i'm beginning to cure. it the last few days have forced me to take a hard look. it's been humbling. i thank them for their patience and grace. >> he has spoken up. in some other news right now, president trump's twitter habit is putting a new strain on

and one republican said behind the scenes the president may also be trying to talk himself and others into questioning the authenticity of the now infamous "access hollywood" tape. and the british parliament is angrily rethinking president trump's tweets. she's thinking of rescinding her invitation for the president to visit britain sometime next year. >> thank you so much. senators voted last night along party lines, 52-48 to start the debate on the bill. no democrats support the package. president trump retweeted working americans not the wealthy will benefit from the tax cuts. nancy cordes is following the debate on capitol hill. good morning. >> good morning. senate democrats do not agree with the president's assessment and neither do independent analysts. they say that under the senate plan, the biggest share of the

individual tax cuts actually go to those making more than a million a year. people who make less than $75,000 would actually see their taxes go up within 10 years, a problem that republicans say will be fixed down the road. now, this bill is still being revised to appease some gop deficit hawks. they're discussing the decision if they eliminate some of these if the gop proposal doesn't grow the economy as planned. some republicans say, no, they'd rather see automatic spending cuts in that scenario rather than tax increases. senators marco rubio and mike lee want to lower the costs by bumping the bit corporate tax cut back up by two percentage points, using some of that money to pay for an even bigger increase in the child tax credit. and the committee says under this plan, more than 60% of americans would get a tax cut of at least $100
