snow is coming our way, who sees it and how much will fall depends on where you live. good afternoon and thank you for watchingtran019news at noon. don't panic and stock up on bread just yet. we will break it down for you on the first snow many of us will see in 2018. >> it is not so

people will be trying to get to work and school. this is what we are seeing outside right now, still below freezing. 20 0 in dc. some spots may get above freezing this afternoon. 30 0 to 35 0 is our high temperature range this afternoon. snow had our way early tonight and tomorrow and it will be light to moderate. we are talking about a treat in some spots around dc and the farther east you go the higher amounts you will get. we have had rain and snow mixing in parts of georgia and florida. it is possible givingãgiven the right conditions. 7:30 pm the southern of

line for those flakes. 2 a.m. watch how that snow makes its way into the dc area . by the time everyone wakes up at 5 a.m. we will have a coating of snow on the ground. 7 a.m. a moderate snow dusting and then as we get to late morning this system moves a little farther away from us toward the boston area. by lunchtime we are looking for things to settle down for our area. by the time you had on tomorrow around 6 pm things will have cleared out, we will have breezy winds and very cold air. if you are in the manassas area look for a trace up to an inch. dc look for o

over the eastern shore you have 3-4 inches possible. we are looking at some winter weather advisories. the national weather service has not issued an advisory for our area but they did issue a special statement because it will be during travel time at rush hour. you know how it is around here. with a lot of people on the roads with anything following it could wreak havoc on us. we will track this more for you coming up. you can keep up with the latest on ourtran01 app. snow is falling in florida as a major winter storm

building on parkland place. we are told crews got there quickly to put out the fire before it spread to any other apartments. holiday break is ever for students at kramer middle school, they went back to school this morning after a first pipe flooded the basement. cruises spent hours in the cold yesterday to fix the problem. it is the end of an era after 84 years johnson's florist and garden center is closing. the owner says it is a direct result of the significant increase in rent and fees. they say they are going out of business in the district despite months of negotiations with the landlord. other johnson's locations will remain open but the

two democrats have been sworn in the senate this afternoon narrowing the republican majority. lieutenant governor tina smith is replacing senator al franken after he resigned yesterday after allegations of sexual misconduct. senator elect doug jones will take the oath of office, the first alabama democrat elected to the senate in 25 years. president donald trump is warning north korea dictator kim jong un he too has a nuclear button on his desk and he says his is bigger. while the president is communicating via twitter north korea has reopened a communications hotline with some -- south korea. the countries say discussions could possibly include the upcoming winter olympics being held in south korea.>>reporter:

president donald trump is responding to north korea dictator kim jong un's warning he now has a nuclear button on his desk. the president tweeted, i too have a nuclear button but it is a much bigger and more powerful one than his and my button works. homeland security secretary kirsten nelson was asked about this tweet. >> i think we have to continue to take the threat seriously. >> north and south korea have a new way to communicate now, a spokesman announced on state tv that a hotline in the demilitarized zone was restored for the first time in nearly two years. kim jong un says he is open to talks about allowing north korea to compete in the upcoming winter olympics to be held in south korea. the white house

there were no safes on this plane but there was a rat. alaska airlines flight from oakland to portland was canceled because a rodent ran from the jetway into the cockpit. 110 passengers were removed and rebooked on other flights and the play was taken out of service until it is certified rodent free by a professional. >> the captain came out and said you're not going to believe me but a rat just got onto the plane and we are going to try to catch it. he then came around and asked people if they had questions. i said if everyone took a vote do we so get on the plane? he said no because the rat was more in his area. >> most of the 110 passengers were read hooked on a later flight

this morning. alaska airlines checked that plane with an exterminator but want to make sure there was no damage to wires. caught on tape the pictures of the chesapeake day -- bay from satellite photos. that is ice near the flats and upper bay as they were frozen as of yesterday afternoon. the deep-freeze is doing a number on the deep south as well with temperatures dipping into the teens in parts of texas. sand was dropped on the roads for tracks and -- traction. a severe storm named eleanor is badgering the ukãbadgering --

cold temperatures. later on tonight and early tomorrow we will wake up and there will be at least a dusting on the ground. it is the timing of when people are trying to get to work that will be tricky. you have to give mother nature credit this is beautiful. it is not a safe idea to walk or play on water as we mentioned earlier. this is not what you want to walk on but it is pretty to stop and look at. it is 28 0 right now and clouds have pushed in. the big story of course is no making its way in later tonight and tomorrow morning. it will be light to moderate and it will happen between 2 a.m. and 12 pm. we could get a trace of two to inches around dc.

first let me show you what is heading our way. this storm has already moved across florida and the southern tip of georgia and it will continue up to the north just outside of the eastern seaboard and it will intensify as it gets toward boston and maine. as early as 7:30 pm tonight southern maryland will see the first few drops of flakes. by 2 a.m. snow moves into the eastern edge of dc. by 5 a.m. tomorrow there will already be a light coating of snow and we will continue to see that fall through the morning rush hour. 7 a.m. light to moderate bands of snow

and the further east you are the better chance you have of seeing that snow make its way in. a lunch time the system does push to the east and by the end of the day the snow is out of here. we will have a trace up to an inch around the leesburg area. 1 -2 inches in the dc area. 4-6 inches around the area. your 7-day forecast is calling for cold air to stick around especially friday and saturday with highs only in the teens and morning low temperatures in the single dig

i just drank tons of water a proall the time, it was never enough. my dentist suggested biotene.
