our special assignment unit has been looking into the two-year- old scandal, uncovered emails that suggest the principle may have ignored allegations and field protect students like lizzie fitzpatrick. she loved basketball from a young age. she played all four years here wearing number 33. and 2015, her senior year, she made a complaint about her coach. she accused have -- she accused him of bullying players and making inappropriate comments to her and teammates.>> there was a hole in it, he said, is that why her boyfriend broke up with you because you can't blow? and like, my reaction thought -- my reaction, i thought it was weird. my first practice, he threw a ball at me

to catch it. it hit me in the chest and he was like, her aa's went to double these. >> reporter: her teammate heard similar sexually suggestive comments directed at other girls. >> he asked what are you looking for? condoms? everyone was like, they laughed. >> i just thought it was the -- i just thought it was like, boys will be boys. >> but this was your teacher, your coach? >> well, yeah. >> reporter: the coach was ultimately forced to resign. the official reason was improper conduct. we sat down with him recently to discuss these allegations. >> d remember doing any of that? >> not at all. absolutely not. i have a daughter myself. i have two sons who i want to be a role model for. i would never speak that way to a young lady

at any time. make this point -- >> reporter: at this point it's not about what he has to say but how the school system handled his allegations. she made her report to the activities director mike clark. she was scared. >> i told him what i could and his reaction was like, i've known john for 20 years. this does not sound right. just, belittling me. >> reporter: did you think mister clark took your concerns seriously? >> no, like, my immediate reaction was like, i'm going to get trouble. >> reporter: lizzie got in trouble and was kicked off the team in the middle of the game. it happened during an exchange with her coach. >> i lashed out and told him not to speak to me like that. he told me it was my last time

on the team. >> reporter: it's been two months since she made the formal complaint against her coach. >> it was a big jim. i was just sitting there crying . >> reporter: he kicked two off the team in the middle of the game. >> the whole team and assistant coach saw it. >> reporter: the coach confirmed this in an email the next day that said lizzie was being removed from the team for conduct reasons. >> it's your senior year and you are kicked off of the team. >> reporter: back to the timeline, it's march, the basketball season is over and it is not just lizzie complaining. parents have gotten wind of problems. we obtained multiple emails and surveys parents filled out detailing complaints against the coach. the school surveys were turned into lake braddock administrators. the coach was gone six days later on march 15 after pant

18, three months. federal guidelines state the school must take immediate reaction to limit these effects. kathy taylor believes the student allegations were ignored. >> they were brave enough to come forward with these allegations. they were dismissed. it's serious enough that there should have been the investigation. there was cover-up occurring. whose to say this will not happen again? >> reporter: the principal says he took action when he was made aware of these allegations in march when the parents filed complaints. at this email obtained by wusa9 special assignment unit suggests the principal was told about lizzie's allegations when she made them in december. it is written by mike clark

do -- the activity director. he wrote to the principal. >> during the afternoon of december 18, the same day the student and the aide came to see me i specifically told you that a player had told me, the coach was using inappropriate language during practice. we wanted to ask mike clark about the email. but like the coach, he was forced to resign. he would not speak to us because he signed a nondisclosure agreement with fairfax county public schools. there is another person we hadn't mentioned, a possible witness who claims the principal knew about these allegations all along. his name is jim. he was the winningest coach in school history. he twice observed the principal and the activities director talking about the basketball

coaches behavior. one of the conversations was in february. the fact that the football coach was a witness apparently did not sit well with the principal who wrote in this email, at least we know who the mole is. he was reassigned to another school and is not coaching. he filed a federal retaliation complaint against fairfax schools. he is not speaking either. to be clear, that makes three former lake braddock staff members no longer at this school. the basketball coach was forced to resign. the activities director was forced to resign and the football coach was reassigned to another school. the principal is on the job still. what now? it's been two years, lizzie and alisa are in college. they do not play basketball any longer but say there was no legitimate investigation.>> they said they investigated this matter.
