congratulations to the alabama crimson tide, who, last night, beat the georgia bulldogs to win the college football championship. it's the best thing to happen to alabama since not electing roy moore. ( laughter ) but the big story wasn't the game itself, it was one special ticket-holder: donald trump. he was on everyone's mind before the game, including the players: >> ( bleep ) trump! ( laughter ) ( cheers and applause ) >> stephen: i know that seems inappropriate, but, in that player's defense, he was just quoting rex tillerson. ( laughter ) speaking of our president,

bipartisan meeting on immigration reform, focused mainly on reforming our policy of having immigrants. the stakes are high. if the two sides can't find a compromise, the federal government is going to shut down on january 20 -- or as historians call it, "one year too late." ( laughter ) now, this meeting was today. doesn't mean this afternoon, right? ( cheers and applause ) they had the meeting this afternoon and they did it in kind of an exceptional way. hadn't seen this before. they held an open meeting and let cameras in for the negotiations. they don't let cameras into the bachelor fantasy suite when they're engaging in "bipartisan negotiations." i mean sex. ( laughter ) trump seemed confident that a bipartisan immigration solution was possible. >> having the democrats in with us is absolutely vital. it should be a bipartisan bill. a bill of love. >> stephen: and you know what they say, if you lso

( laughter ) if they come back to you, build a wall so they can't get in. but here's the thing -- last week, trump gave his price for an immigration deal. he wants to end the green card lottery, family immigration, and he's demanding $18 billion for the initial phase of his mexican border wall. wait, no, you said mexico would pay for the wall. it was your thing. you chanted it. now you've forgotten it? that's like bon jovi forgetting the lyrics to "you give love a bad name." by the way, mr. president, you give love a bad name. ( laughter ) ( piano riff ) ( applause ) these people don't. these people know how to love. ( laughter ) but, this weekend, trump clarified. >> yeah, i believe that mexico will pay for the wall. i have a very good relationship with mexico.

nafta, we'll see how that goes. yes. but mexico will pay-- in some form, mexico will pay for the wall. >> stephen: "yes, mexico will pay for the wall, in some form. i'm thinking free guac on your birthday." ( laughter ) okay? that's got to add up. that's got to add up. it's like 50 cents for extra guac. it adds up. and in this meeting, trump delivered a strong message of leadership: "somebody else fix it. " >> you folks are going to have to come up with a solution, and, if you do, i will sign that solution. my positions are going to be what the people in this room come up with. >> stephen: "i've always firmly believed whatever the people i'm in the same room with tell me to believe. my brain is made of tofu. it absorbs the flavor of whatever you throw at it." okay? ( applause ) here's the thing -- both democrats and republicans agree that a path to citizenship should be created for dreamers. the problem is republicans don't want to pass daca without the wall, and democrats do. and, for a brief moment, the president briefly agreed with the democrats. >> what about a clean daca bill now with a commitment that we go into a comprehensive immigration reform? >> i have no problem-- i think that's basically what dick is saying. we will come up with daca. we will do daca and start on the phase two, which would be comprehensive. i think a lot of people would like to see that. but i think we have to do daca first. >> mr. president, you need to be clear. what senator feinstein is talking about, we don't want to be back here two years later. you have to have security, as the secretary would tell you. >> that's what she is saying. >> no, i think she is saying something different. >> stephen: "i agree with dianne feinstein because i heard her speaking last. what's that? kevin's talking now? okay, i agree with kevin. although, technically, i want to point out i'm now the last

( cheers and applause ) ( piano riff ) and while republicans won't approve daca unless it comes with funding for the border wall, trump demonstrated his master negotiator skills by saying, what if it was less wall? >> that doesn't mean 2,000 miles of wall because you just don't need that because of nature. because of mountains and rivers and lots of other things. there are large areas where you don't need a wall because you have a mountain and you have a river. you have a violent river, and you don't need it. >> stephen: we all remember the chant from trump campaign rallies. "build the wall! unless the local terrain provides sufficient enough protection and can act as a natural wall proxy! maga!" ( cheers and applause )

( laughter ) and trump made it clear that he has congress' back, even if an immigration compromise is unpopular. >> if we do this properly, daca, you're not so far away from comprehensive immigration reform. and if you want to take it that further step, i will take the heat. i don't care. i don't care. i will take all the heat you want to give me. and i will take the heat both off the democrats and the republicans. my whole life has been heat. i like heat, in a certain way. >> stephen: then i've got great news, sir. you're in hot water with robert mueller. ( laughter ) ( cheers and applause ) that's why you look par-boiled. he's the frog. ( laughter ) speaking of which, one of the questions of the russia investigation has been the senate testimony of fusion g.p.s., the opposition research firm that compiled the infamous "steele dossier" of allegations against trump. it's got a lot of stuff in

fusion's founder testified to the senate back in august, and he's repeatedly asked for it to be made public, but that's been blocked by iowa senator and man who gives out religious pamphlets for halloween, chuck grassley. well, today, senator dianne feinstein said, "screw it, i'm 84. here it is." ( laughter ) the testimony was released as a 312 page pdf, and, just like everyone else, i quickly downloaded it and searched for the word "pee pee." nothin'. also tried "tinkle," "urine," and "asparagus." nothing. got skunked. we'll have more on the story tomorrow as it trickles out. ( laughter ) meanwhile, back to the russia probe headed by special counsel and man who was just asked how the investigation is going, robert mueller.

jon! of course, all of this talk about oprah was sparked by her stirring speech at the golden globes on sunday, after which she got a wave of support on twitter. including from first daughter and robot greeter at a japanese airport, ivanka trump. last night, ivanka tweeted: "just saw at oprah's empowering and inspiring speech at last night's #goldenglobes. let's all come together, women and men, and say #timesup! #united." ( applause ) now, we've got to go here in a minute, but before we do, i do want to ask you something. i mentioned backstage i wanted to talk to you about this and if you're okay talking about it, i want to ask you about criticism you got on a golden globe's night because you were wearing a times up pin in support of the time's up movement which has been created by many powerful women in hollywood to say that the time is up for the abuse, misuse of women both sexually and otherwise, not only in hollywood but around the country. they've established a fund, a legal defense fund for women and men abused in this way. you got criticized for wearing that. do you know why and do you have a response, anything you want to say about that criticism? >> well, first, i want to say i wore it because i dopp

i was, you know -- look, i was so excited to win, but being in that room that night was incredible. i mean, it was powerful. there were incredible voices, and i support it. i support change. i support 50/50 and 20/20 which just means, you know, people underrepresented, women, people of color, people in the lgbt community get leadership positions that they fill all positions they have been deprived of, i completely believe in that. ( cheers and applause ) that's why i wore it. there were some things on twitter -- >> stephen: today. yeah, i didn't -- i haven't read them. i've heard about them. okay, first of all, i have no idea what i did to ali, i directed her in a play off

with her, total respect for her. i have no idea why she was upset. she took the tweet down. i don't know. i can't speak for her, i don't know. the others, look, in my life i pride myself on taking responsibility for things i've done. i have to do that to maintain my well being. i do it whenever i know that there is something wrong or needs to be changed, i make it a point to do it. the things that i heard that were on twitter are not accurate, but i completely support people coming out and being able to have a voice because they didn't have a voice for so long. so i don't want to -- i don't want to, you know, shut them down in any way. it's, i think, a good thing and i support it. >> stephen: well, is there something

some way to have this discussion that isn't in social media? is there some way to have this conversation that piggy backs on what's happening in social media? because when accusations happen -- because for so long accusations were not believed. when accusations happened, in your case, you say this is not an accurate thing for me. do you have any idea what the answer might be to come to some sense of what the truth is so there can be a s.e.c. silliation between people who clearly have different views of things? i mean, it's a big question but i don't know how to leave or to further this discussion. >> i mean, like i said, if i -- you know, i -- i can't -- the way i live my life, i can't live if there's restitution to be made. i will make it. so if i've done something wrong, i will fix it. i have to. i mean, i think that's

together and saying, look, this what's happening now isn't okay and we want to step up and do something, and i think the fun is us putting our money where our mouths are. we're not just talking about it. we're saying let's do something about it. but for people who have an issue and want to come out and say, hey, i was abused and was harassed and i wanted to support it and financially as well. >> stephen: the financial support of a legal fund that both men and women can use who feel they're powerless and being abused in the workplace is a wonderful thing. >> absolutely because you don't want to come forward and go broke having to speak your truth. we want to make sure justice goes to those who deserve it and we want to give the financial support to those they so desperately need ( cheers and applause ) >> stephen: yes. did you think of yours
