the search for him, forced two schools on the peninsula to lockdown. chopper 10 flew above thomas nelson community college and o-d-u's peninsula higher education. this started as a state police traffic stop on i-64. they say a man, reportedly wanted by police, ran away toward the campuses. as troopers looked for him, students tell us they were stuck waiting for the all-clear. c2 04:07 yeah we thought there was an armed assailant just running through the school, the campus and stuff we were just going whatever it took to get out of there alive really (runs :09) police charged the driver for speeding-- and another passenger for having marijuana. we are still working to get a description of the man who ran away. sunny and on the warmer side today, but we're expecting a few changes tomorrow. they include, the chance for wet weather. chief meteorologist don slater joins us now. don, what kind of rain are we looking at here, and when can we expect it

congressman scott rigell says he won't seek re-election, when his term expires next year. the republican has represented the 2nd district for five years. he says he's proud of what his team has accomplished, including reducing discretionary government spending. rigell says he's at peace with the decision he made 452 based on my own self-imposed term limits and my review as to what we got accomplished in these last five years and what i'm convinced we can do in sixth year, that's closure for me 506 rigell recognized the military in the district -- and gold star families -- who have lost loved ones in service to the country.

congressman, rigell was the founder and chairman of freedom automotive. the top republican candidates running for the white house -- took the stage for another debate tonight. it gave voters another chance to hear from the contenders before the iowa caucuses. before the prime time matchup three other candidates, carly fiorina, mike huckabee and rick santorum participated in an undercard debate. absent from the stage there: rand paul, who refused to participate. donald trump will be back in our area next month. the republican presidential candidate plans to speak at regent university in virginia beach. this is video from his rally at the battleship wisconsin in norfolk last year. trump will take part in the "presidential candidate forum." the forums kicked off with fellow candidates jeb bush and ohio governor john kasich. the bomb and arson squad are investigating a deadly plane crash in middlesex county. state police say they were checking a device on board, used to deploy parachutes. one person died when the plane went down this afternoon. troopers could not tell us about the

let you know as soon as we have an update. breaking news from japan. at least 14 people died, and 27 others were hurt when a tour bus crashed. it was on its way to a ski resort, when it slid down a mountainside and fell off a cliff. 41 people were on board including two drivers, taking turns. there was no snow or ice on the road at the time. isis has claimed responsibility for a deadly attack in indonesia -- since we broke the story last night, local reporters now say police have arrested three men in connection with the explosions -- explosion nats top of pkg the islamic state posted about the violence in jakarta on social media. seven people died, including five attackers. 20 people were hurt. a navigational error caused two navy boats to stray into iranian waters, according to the defense secretary. iran detained ten sailors earlier this week. they were safely released less than a day later.

they were trying to figure out their mistake when the iranians picked them up. new tonight. the crew of the coast guard cutter dependable has returned to virginia beach. the military sent us this video of the ship returning to j-e-b little creek fort story after more than a month at sea. the crew helped enforce fishing laws across the northeast and mid- atlantic. new tonight. governor mcauliffe has announced a new deal, for commercial space flight in virginia. nasa has contracted orbital a-t-k to launch resupply missions from its wallops island facility on the eastern shore. the rockets will carry supplies to the international space station. 112514-171y1bkb the contract comes more than a year after a rocket exploded launching from wallops island. no one was hurt, but the blast damaged the spaceport. mcauliffe says everyone involved has come a long way since then, and the contract shows wallops island is open for business. the next launch is scheduled for may or june. even though no one sold a

virginia, a local 7-eleven sold a million-dollar winner. someone bought the ticket from the store on lynnhaven parkway in the salem neighborhood. a handful of winning tickets for smaller prizes sold at other stores across hampton roads. we still haven't heard who will claim last night's one-point-six billion dollar jackpot. stores sold three winning tickets: in melbourne beach, florida, mumford, tennessee, and a third in chino beach, california. people were so excited, sales totaled more than one-point-two trillion dollars in all. days after a suspect shot and killed a norfolk police k-9, a local charity says it's making his death part of a national campaign. they say it's already getting some celebrity support -- virginia beach based spike's k-9 fund says c-n-n's anderson cooper has donated to the k-9 krijger ballistic vest campaign. they say his donation will provide vests for all k-9s in norfolk as well as some other cities in hampton roads. police

police, but is it the right charge? we've been telling you about the confrontation between mayor kenny wright and sheriff bill watson since tuesday. watson tried to stop the mayor when he noticed an expired inspection sticker on his car. the sheriff says mayor wright refused to stop-- and led him on a slow- speed chase. an attorney tells 10 on your side, "felony eluding" is normally reserved for high- speed chases. he does not believe it applies here. "i could see the potential for it." waving $1,500 bucks in the air -- councilman bill moody publically paid a fine this week for discussing a closed session item with his facebook followers before a meeting in early december. the virginia aquarium says it's caring for eleven cold-stunned sea turtles. its mostly caring for kemps-ridley turtles, and there's one green turtle. they say they help marine animal experts care for turtles coming from the new england area. the stranding response team says the shape of the land makes it difficult for turtles to swim south to warmer waters, before they get too cold. c0014 14;06;59 these guys are cold blooded so they're very sensitive to their environment -- that's when they end up getting cold stunned. if you see a struggling turtle this winter, call the stranding response team right away. they say it may appear dead at first, so you should call no matter what. a frozen situation -- finally thawed out. see the moments crews recovered an extremely icy vehicle.

aeron etheridge will be back in court january 28th, he remains in jail on a 300-thousand-dollars bond. a man will spend 35 years behind bars for killing a popular bus driver on the eastern shore. an accomack county jury found michael press guilty yesterday of murdering leon harmon junior. he was sentenced today. a witness said he saw press brutally beat harmon in november of 2014, then drive harmon home. that's where police found his body. new tonight, virginia beach police hope you can help them find a shoplifter. officers say this man stole a drone from the 7-eleven at lynnhaven parkway and holland road. they want you to focus on the tattoos he has on both arms. if you recognize him, call the crime line. you never have to give your name, and you may earn a reward. tributes are pouring in for the actor known for his roles in "die hard" and harry potter. editor 11 turn to page 394

you could say a frozen problem for a car owner has thawed, somewhat incredible video near buffalo, new york that many have seen by now. this is what was left after the waves from lake erie splashed over the wall as temperatures plumetted and left someone's car encased in solid ice. after days of sitting in the parking lot, tow crews finally pulled the frozen car away. erica brecher shows us what happened next. it's the car that made headlines around the country... this frozen vehicle became a symbol of what winter can be like in
