tons of salt and sand to treat roads - and more than a million gallons of calcium chloride. snow hit parts of north carolina, as well. this is video near durham in the central part of the state. the snow stuck to grass and cars, but it was too warm to stick to the roads. the national weather service reported an inch of snow in the mountains of the state. icy conditions and speed led to a deadly crash in sussex county this afternoon. state police say 74-year-old nancy leigh smith died when her car crashed into a tree on route 31 - east of route 617. another person in the car was also hurt. police believe smith may have been speeding. she was not wearing a seatbelt. they say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. you may want to take a you may want to take a minute tonight to download our wavy weather app. you can keep track of the cold temps moving in and stay connected all winter long. it's free for both apple and android users. tonight - a man is in jail in connection with

one person is dead and three others injured after the shooting at intersection of ditchley road and gill lane. it happened around 12:30 this morning. 10 on your side's joe fisher has the details. deanna -- we're learning tonight the shooting happened just down the road from a very large party. i talked with the but they also didn't know many of the people at their house last night. lexus walton/gloucester county ((c81 34:32)) "it was a big party friday night, too, so i'm sure more poeople from friday brought more people saturday." beer bottles and beer boxes litter the front yard of this home on gill lane in gloucester county sunday -- after night two birthday bash. lexus walton/gloucester county ((c81 32:09)) "i couldn't move in the house, so i didn't think that this many people were going to be here and i definitely didn't think anything like that was she's talking about multiple shots fired just down the street -- at the road. marquel county ((c80 29:45-29:55)) "the music and stuff was still playing and then rumor went around that somone got shot. that's when everyone tried to rush out of here, but the va. shot four people around 12:30 --- one of them died inside a parked

their house asking questions. the scene still active until morning when neighbor bill perry left home. ((c100 43:25)) "there was a black car there that been shot, one was dead. i asked if they were local and he said they were from across the river." the three other victims flagged down a ride to nuttall's country store less than a mile away. that's where medics found them and rushed them to the hospital. bill perry/neighbor ((c100 44:45)) "how the hell is this possible." the shooting shocking to neighbors. even surprising to those at the party. they estimate 150 people showed up, and they admit they weren't keeping track of who was coming through the door. lexus walton/gloucester county ((c81 33:20)) "i'm sorry somebody got hurt, but there was just too many people here. and i have no idea who those people were at all." first-degree murder and malicious wounding. investigaors say they expect more charges will be filed.

fisher, 10 on your side. the gloucester county sheriff's office has not yet identified the victim. toinght we're also working to learn if anyone involved attended the party last night. we have a follow-up to a story we brought to you this morning on wavy news 10 today. we now know a wrong-way crash is the reason behind a deadly accident on 164 westbound in portsmouth. suffolk dispatch got the first calls around 3:30 this morning about the wrong-way driver. the accident killed a 38-year-old woman and badly injured a 25-year-old man. officers are still investigating tonight. tonight investigators are working to find out what caused a fire deadly in chesterfield county. despite hard work by firefighters, five people inside died. one of the survivors spoke to

6 everything gone.. flames... smoke.. everything. this house in chesterfield county... destroyed by flames that took five lives. madison anderson is one of five survivors. she was staying with her boyfriend's family when the fire started around 3-o'clock sunday morning. officials say it started near the garage. madison anderson 5 there was 6 guys in my room telling me to get out of there... there's a fire. i thought i was dreaming and they were worked to get them all out. five adults inclduing anderson and her boyfirend made it out alive. but his mother... two grandparents... and his 3- year old niece and one-year old nephew did not survive. 7 they were amazing. they were the best kids ever. officials... commending firefighters for their courage. 2 they made some heroic efforts to be able to get inside the house, make

locating victims. now they're asking the community for support as prayers to this family. we just want to make sure everyone is okay and just be thinking about and praying for these folks. the chesterfield county fire marshals and the police department are investigating the cause of that fire. a boeing 757 made an emergency at norfolk international airport today. the airport executive director says the united flight was on its way to santa jersey. the plane landed after pilots noticed a problem with the right engine. none of the 213 passengers or crew injuries. we have new information about a story we brought to you as breaking news at 6. a missing 11-year-old boy is safe this evening. at 7 this evening newport news police sent out an update saying the boy was

mmmm, yoplait. rescuers are expanding their search for twelve marines missing off the coast of hawaii. the two helicopters they were in likely collided off oahu island thursday during a training flight. the coast guard says its search now extends eight miles out from the north shore area. a navy ship equipped with sonar joined in the search efforts today. officials say they found some debris consistent with the type of missing helicopters. but they're not commenting further. also this morning - the marine corps identified the 4 officers and 8 enlisted involved in the crash. we've put a list of that information on wavy dot com. volunteers are joining the effort to get clean and safe drinking water to people in flint, michigan. free water, water filters and testings kits were all given out. people from across michigan are helping out-- to keep track of who has--and has not received these much needed supplies. they say they've reached more than 75-thousand homes so far and will

the u.s. embassy in baghdad confirms "several" americans are missing. they made the announement after local iraqi media reported three americans had been kidnapped in the iraqi capital. u.s. embassy spokesman scott bolz said sunday that "we are working in full cooperation with iraqi authorities to locate the missing americans." four people are dead and several others injured after a suicide car bomb explosion in yemen. the blast happened outside the home of the director of security. yemen's been in a civil war since last march. palestinian surgeons saved a man's life in the west bank. days ago the doctors successfully performed the first artificial heart transplant. the recipient is a 19-year-old man. doctors say he would have died within three months if he didn't have the surgery. the expensive operation was funded by the palestinian
