saying so long from newark. we're following breaking news out of norfolk. a 43-year-old woman is dead and her 22- year-old son is in jail after a morning shooting. officers say shawn hunter shot his mother, sonya hunter was shot multiple times on westcliff drive around 9 this morning. she was taken to sentara norfolk general hospital where she later died. police also found three small children near the scene - none of them had any injuries. now more breaking news police in blacksburg just announced a missing 13-year-old girl - is dead. and an 18-year-old virginia tech student is in jail. we showed you nicole lovell's picture after

officers from six different agencies had helped in the search - hundreds of people helped in the search. they've now charged virginia tech freshman david eisenhauer with her murder. the blacksburg police department is holding a press conference right now. we're working to get more information, as soon as we get it, we'll pass it along to you. tonight - flashing lights and crime tape a memory - as a community remembers six people killed in a murder-suicide earlier this week. we may never learn why a 26 year old man would kill five family members, and then himself. but tonight - we have new insight into the lives lost - from a relative of the victims. michael dooley, whose mother and brother were killed, spoke to 10 on your side. our liz palka was at a vigil for the vicitms and joins us with more. deanna - a memorial grows outside the home on george washington highway where doris dooley lived. some of the flowers placed there by

lost this week in a murder suicide. investigators say 26 year old cameron dooley shot and killed his dad todd, mother lori, brother landon, sister brooke, and grandmother doris. he then shot and killed himself after a police standoff that lasted several hours at the home on george washington highway. interim pastor of temple baptist church - jerry greco - said this community is turning to their faith. c39 37:23 - faith is something you can't touch taste or see. so we're going to go through today and go into the week knowing that he wasn't taken by surprise. c38 31:57 - please continue to lift up our family in prayer. thank you. :01 chesapeake police had a large presence at the vigil. not just to attend...but also to help direct traffic. we understand from pastor greco the police department will play a large role in the family's services. i'm liz palka, 10 on your side. tonight is not the only night to remember the victims. the dooley family will

friends and family tomorrow at the temple baptist chuch. then, there will be a memorial service monday night at the deep creek baptist church. for the complete coverage on this story - go to our website wavy dot com. we now know - two robbery suspects were shot as they tried to rob a store. police say an 18 year old suspect died. the other was hut hurt. everything started around 6:20 friday evening at the gift card atm store on west mercury boulevard. the suspect who was hurt - now faces several charges. the store employee legally carrying a gun shot the two. that employee isn't facing any charges and didn't have any injuries. police now say 25-year-old david isaac's body was found just before 4 yesterday in the lafayette river. that's near 26th street and villa circle. teenagers called 9-1-1 after they saw the body. the medical examiner is still working fo find out the cause of death. two buildings are damaged because a fire this morning. people called 9-1-1 shortly after 10 this morning to report the fire. heavy smoke and flames were shooting through the roof of one house. fire officials

residents want to see as a priority in next year's budget. 10 on your side's joe fisher was there this morning -- as they took their message to city leaders. joe. deanna -- a little more than three months left until city officials in portsmouth finalize their next budget. and after a highly publicized and critized budget process last year, the city is now polling the public on their priorities. seventy percent of people in this room at woodrow wilson high school saturday -- say pettis-patton/portsmouth city manager ((c197 43:28)) "that's important across this nation: safety, safety, safety . in everything we do. in the schools, in the community, everyone wants that." that majority -- urging

police and fire services. in a seperate question -- 100 percent of people agreed school safety should be a top priority. already the district has resource officers at their high schools, but superintendent dr. elie bracy says they can do more. dr. elie bracy/portsmouth public schools superintendent ((c197 42:39)) "what we want to do is to at least expand one security officer into our middle schools, because things happen." one of many improvements the district hopes to make. others include hiring additional teachers to knock down class sizes -- and expanding vocational learning opportunities. funding that's hard to get when less than 50 percent of the room has a favorable view of the school district. sarah duncan hinds/portsmouth school board ((c196 31:35)) "i found it interesting that they said our schools need more improvement, but only a third would vote to increase the funding for the schools." the same goes for public put up more money to make it happen. dr. lydia pettis-patton/portsmouth city manager ((c197 49:55)) "i think you have to look at a balance. money is not the answer to everything." ((c197 41:22)) "do those goals involve possibily increasing taxes." "i can't answer that at this time. because we are

refocusing." dr. patton says city staff will compile the data from residents and use it prioritizing funds for fiscal year 2017. this was the first of three public input sessions. the city will host another meeting this coming thursday night at i.c. norcom high school. and the last meeting will be next saturday morning at churchland high school. i've also posted the city's entire presentation on wavy-dot-com. i'm joe fisher, 10 on your side. the city of portsmouth is also inching closer to hiring a new police chief. about 50 had the opportunity to hear from the final three candidates this afternoon at i.c. norcom high school. interim chief dennis mook came to the department after chief ed hargis retired in june. the portsmouth police

expects a new chief to be hired sometime in february. we're following developing news from the richmond area. two people are dead and a teenager and a child are both in the hospital after being shot. it happened in caroline county - just north of richmond. police say just after 9:45 friday night - calls came in about a shooting at the family's home. an 18-year-old girl and 7-year-old boy are in stable condition at mary washington hospital in fredricksburg. neighbors close to the family say this comes as a shock. "i have worked in their house. i did the addition problems. this a stunner." the caroline county sheriff says, "this investigation is ongoing...please keep the gray family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time." three people are dead after a small plane crash today in albany, georgia. authorities say the plane crashed shortly after taking off from the airport in this afternoon. no word what may have caused the plane to crash. the airport has

a 22-month-old boy is dead in jacksonville, florida after he was caught in the middle of what authorities call a gang-related drive-by shooting. investigators say the baby was with his mother and grandmother inside a parked car when a vehicle pulled up and someone started shooting on a nearby home... but several bullets went into the car. the baby was hit multiple times in the shoulder and stomach. he was rushed to a hospital... police say the baby died this morning. (tom hackney/jacksonville sheriff's dept. :20) "this is obviously a senseless, violent, reckless act and i can tell you families and friends to know that gets our attention, and we will be pouring the resources in to solving this crime." no one else was hurt in the shooting. no arrests
