biology. he was arrested by campus police this afternoon -- on charges many are disturbed by here in the quaint city. c2 01:26:44 "wow, yeah that's really scary" it's isn't every day william and mary students hear of school staff members facing criminal charges. let alone -- the accusations surrounding this employee - 46 year old michael wilson. police say the research biologist had child pornography in his possession. bothersome, for freshman lizzie pater. c2 01:25:49 "it makes me really uncomfortable especially since coming in during orientation we got this really strong sense of community." wilson, of richmond, was arrested by william and mary police on friday and taken to the virginia peninsula regional jail. a school spokesperson tells 10 on your side he was immediately placed on administrative leave -- and is prohibited from coming on campus - a popular place for families to visit.

new tonight. portsmouth police have arrested a suspected drug dealer. court documents say a buyer showed up-- while they were confronting her. laura goodman is facing charges for the incident on tuesday, at the riverwalk inn and suites. they say she opened the door, and police found crack cocaine in plain site. the papers say police found hundreds of dollars in cash, drugs and a scale. they did not say whether the suspected buyer faces charges. newport news police say they've busted yet another meth lab in the city. and another suspect faces charges tonight. officers arrested 25-year-old tanner meeks on sidney place this morning. police and hazmat crews raided the home overnight. it's their third bust, over the past five days. officers say they found materials to make meth in a shed in the backyard. neighbors tell us meeks moved there in june-- and they've been suspect of

reports of shots fired sent joint base langley eustis into lockdown today. everything started around 11:30. that's when a call came from inside building 650 -- the soldiers support center. military officials say 3 contractors were working on the roof when they heard- what they thought- was gunfire. they say they didn't find any evidence-- and it may have been a misunderstanding. super=colonel bill galbraith/joint base langley-eustis 08=3:11:05 "there is times weapons will be discharged and there is noises on the installation so a contractor who is not familiar with the military might have jumped to the conclusion" about an hour after that call came in, the lockdown was lifted. officials still don't know if shots were actually fired. a norfolk officer is on administrative duty tonight. the department is investigating accusations that he exposed himself to a woman in the parking lot of a portsmouth walmart. she did not want us to show her face, but says the officer showed himself to her sunday on frederick boulevard. she picked him out of a photo lineup.

new man will take over the portsmouth fire department. the city manager has named dwayne bonnette as the fire chief. he has served with the alexandria fire department and the coast guard. he has more than 25 years experience in related fields. he starts on march 14th. on monday, portsmouth plans to welcome a new police chief. tonya chapman will take the oath of office. according to the department, she is the first woman to hold that position. chapman has worked in various positions across virginia, most recently as the deputy secretary of public safety and homeland security. new tonight -- senator mark warner says he's seen progress at the hampton v-a medical center. he says that's good, but now's the time to build on that. editor start with erin vids today -- chopper-hampton va hospital switch to file hampton va medical center warner was in town visiting with cybersecurity experts today. 10 on your side also asked him about the v-a, because we've been investigating issues there for months. they included long wait times for primary care appointments. the v-a made changes, and the times have improved.

community, we've got to build a new facility. warner says some lawmakers in washington have been making it more difficult for the v-a to expand its facilities. the department of justice is getting involved in the case against apple. it has filed a motion -- in hopes of forcing the company to help the f-b-i break into an iphone. one of the san bernardino shooters used the phone before he and his wife carried out a deadly terror attack last year. apple's c-e-o is fighting the ruling -- saying the government could use the tool to help gather personal data. he has received support from the c- e-o's of google, twitter, facebook and antivirus software creater, john mcafee. the government says the order would only apply to this specific phone. a hearing is set for next month. thousands of people, including president obama, paid their respects to antonin scalia today. it was the late supreme

a grieving mother is calling for an independent investigation of an officer-involved shooting in virginia beach. in september, officers responded to the 7-eleven on lynnhaven parkway in the salem neighborhood. they say 35-year-old angelo perry opened fire on them, so they fired back on his vehicle. also inside? 27-year-old india kager and their baby in the backseat. perry and kager died. the child was not hurt. days later, police told us perry had a record of crime and violence. they believed he was planning something-- and had him under surveillance at the time of the shooting. today, kager's mother met with a deputy commonwealth's attorney. she laid out her concerns with the police response-- and asked to see surveillance video from that night. she also met with police.

palka picks up where our brandi cummings left off today. liz, you spoke to kager's mother and an officer. nicole - i did check in with police. a spokeswoman told me they would not be commenting on this case today - or releasing new information. that includes some of the evidence kager's mother was hoping to discuss. a tearful gina best walks out of the virginia beach police department. she had just met with chief jim cervera for more than an hour. activist jerroll sanders was also in the room... c2 18:15:16 - we discussed the events the night her daughter was killed. the bottom line is, there was no immediate threat. :26 best, who is india kager's mother, wants to know why police had to move in on suspect angelo perry that morning. police said in a news conference in december - they had been doing surveillance on perry. and believed he was connected to a murder. chief jim cervera said two guns were found in the car kager and perry were sitting in when they were shot and

the former headstones dealer had pleaded guilty last august to taking more than four thousand dollars from grieiving families for headstones that he never provided. c 9 19:12 pamela campbell assistant commonwealth's attorney -- he would tell them there was weather issues, there's this, they never got the headstones from this gentleman, they never got their money back, he never refunded their money. prince says several medical conditions kept him from completing his contracts with fifteen victims overall in chesapeake, norfolk, virginia beach and portsmouth. c 11 22:32 edward prince defendant -- i'm very sorry to the families. i know the headstones business is a serious business. it was my intention and it's still my intention to make total restitution to the families. judge marjorie arrington gave prince 21 months active time. his attorney asked that it run concurrent with the 14 months he's already serving from virginia beach. the judge refused, so now he's serving a total of nearly cases in the four cities consolidated into

for 12-hundred dollars. it's now in the hands of an anonymous collector. there are a whole lot of people hoping they have what it takes to be astronauts. nasa says it has received a record 18- thousand applications for the candidate training program. that's nearly three times the number they got in 20-12 -- the most recent class. the previous record was set in 19-78, when the agency got eight-thousand applications. since 19-59, there have only been 338 astronauts. when nasa selects the final candidates, they'll undergo two years of basic training-- before getting their assignments. we're a couple of days away from the daytona 500, a final look ahead to the great american race. and some conference champions were crowned in high school basketball. highlights straight ahead

start on the front row sunday along side pole winner rookie chase elliott. he won the second of the twin qualifying races last night, scoring his third victory in a duel race and 8th overall at daytona. kyle replaces matt kenseth in the number two spot for the 500 after matt and jimmy johnson and several other drivers were swallowed up in a last-lap crash last night in that second qualifying race. both kenseth and johnson will be forced to drive backup cars--and even though matt won the 500 in a backup car seven years ago, you don't want to start in the back at daytona. dale earnhardt jr. won the first twin last night, his fifth victory qualifiers. junior who won the 500 in 2-thousand 4, and again two years ago, showed speed and made moves in the first race solidified his position among the favorites again. he led 43 laps in his favorite car and took the top spot for good when he
