canvassing events in northern virginia and charlottesville. yesterday, we told you congressman bobby scott is supporting the former secretary of state as well. senator kaine says virginia is becoming an increasingly more contentious state in the election season. sen. tim kaine/d-virginia 17:13:42 up to 2008 we were kind of irrelevant in presidential politics battle ground states. but that puts more pressure on our shoulders to participate. 17:13:52 according to hillary's camp - more than 40 democrats in the virginia general assembly plan to back clinton. at least three presidential candidates will be in hampton roads before super tuesday. that includes marco rubio - who was here earlier today. hillary clinton will be speaking in front of voters monday at lake taylor high school in norfolk. the doors open at 6 tomorrow night - and the event starts at 8. also, republican doctor ben carson will be at regent on monday. at least two schools in hampton roads will be off or delayed because of the elections. according to suffolk public schools calendar - there won't be any school for students on tuesday.

was sworn into the prince william county police department on friday. yesterday was her first official day on the job. she and two other officers were responding to a domestic disturbance when shots were fired... the suspect - 32-year-old ronald hamilton - is in the prince william county adult detention center without bond. he's facing several charges that include murder of a law enforcement officer. / paul ebert/ common wealth attorney he will probably be arraigned tomorrow morning. he's in custody at this time being held without bond. as i said investigation is going forward and there may be other charges forth- coming." we know the two other officers are still in the duty army staff sergeant assigned to the joint staff support center at the pentagon. here locally - police departments are sending their condolences. virginia beach police say - "we offer our most sincere condolences to the guindon family, the prince william county police department and the entire p-w-c community."

portsmouth police are investigating two shootings that sent two children to the hospital. the first shooting happened on lancer drive.... just 30 minutes later a second child was shot on moregate lane. the first shooting on lancer drive happened just before 10:45 this morning. police say a 7-year-old boy shot himself in the hand.- and was taken to c-h-k-d. he's expected to be okay. the second shooting happened around 11:15 this morning on morgate lane near picadilly lane. police say in that case another child shot a 9-year-old boy in the leg. he was taken to sentara norfolk general. that child is also expected to be okay. now, police say while both shootings are accidents - the biggest concern is that the children were playing with guns they found in or outside their homes. police say charges are pending in both incidents. police are using this as a time to remind adults gun safety - and to keep their guns locked up. in newport news - an 18-year-old man was taken

after someone shot him. it's a story we first brought to you as breaking news last night on wavy news 10 at 11. police say the man from carrollton got shot in the leg on jefferson avenue near dresden drive around 11 last night. they say he's expected to recover. police are still looking for whoever shot him. also in newport news -- someone shot a 19- year-old man twice in the leg. this one happened on 25th street just before 12:30 yesterday afternoon. the victim went to the hospital - but is expected to live. if you have information about any of these shootings - call the crime line. an ohio pastor is dead after being shot inside his church during a service this morning. dayton police say william schooler had just walked back to the pulpit inside zion baptist church when the shooter got out of a pew and followed him. witnesses say they heard a couple of shots fired while the choir was singing, and it quickly became chaos when everyone took off running. alberta blayth/church member) we had a gentleman come inand he went to sit down during prayer, and

thirty-six people are presumed dead after a coal mine collapse in northern russia. rescue operations are still underway after a methane gas leak triggered three explosions and caused parts of the mine to collapse. two powerful explosions at the mine on friday killed four and trapped 26 others more than two-thousand feet underground. a third explosion early today killed five rescue workers and a mine worker. at the time of today's blast, 110 miners were underground. eighty were rescued. all lanes of interstate 75 in northeastern tennessee will be closed for several weeks. a rock slide shut down the interstate over the weekend. drivers are being forced to take major detours across that part of the state. the road closures are about an hour north of knoxville. the interstate is expected to be closed until march 21st. the portsmouth-based coast guard cutter forward is back home. this is video of it returning earlier this morning. crew members were gone for two months in the western and central

a virginia police officer's first day on the job ended in tragedy when she was shot and killed when responding to a house call. fox news correspondent kristin fisher is in washington with the details. the shooter's been identified as staff sergeant ronald hamilton. 32-years-old. he was assigned to the pentagon. and now -- he's accused of killing a marine gwin-den had just been sworn in on friday. the prince officers steven kendall & ashley gwin-den who were sworn in today & begin their shifts this driven and passionate, but exceedingly intelligent. she struck officer we are seeking, that type of passion and about a domestic disturbance at a home in woodbridge, virginia. that's about 20 miles hospital. the other two are still there -- recovering. as for the suspect -- staff sergeant hamilton his home... they found his wife -- dead. they also found the including -- first degree murder of his wife... and family. her father -- this... the suspect is

morning. in washington, kristin fisher, fox news. two adults and two children are dead after a small plane crash near the navasota texas airport. a pilot landing at the airport spotted the crash site in the woods and called it in to authorities. the grimes county sheriff's office says all four people on board

left houston's david wayne hooks airport at about 8:15 this morning. the identities of those on board have not yet been released. frequent travelers know.. legroom is shrinking on airlines.. leaving some people to feel like they are packed in like sardines. new york senator chuck schumer says he thinks the f-a-a should require airlines to abide by a seat-size guideline. he says legroom on planes used to be 35- inches.. but it has now shrunk to an average of 31. schumer says seats are getting narrower in the hips too.. shrinking about two inches. the senior senator from new york says he will introduce a seat-size guideline amendment to the faa reauthorization act that is pending in congress right now. s/ sen. chuck schumer / (d) new york:08 "as you pay more and more for tickets at least you ought to get a place to sit where you're not treated as a sardine." a vote on the faa reauthorization bill is expected in march. third time was not the charm for the private space company space-x.
