call us now. it's voting day across virginia. we're on your side with what you need to bring before you cast your vote in the super-tuesday presidential primaries. a fallen officer is laid to rest. we'll tell you who, from our area, will be at her funeral today. and new concussion numbers. what parents of every high school athlete need to hear. thank you for joining us on this super tuesday, i'm don roberts. and i'm katie collett. we're here to get you ready to vote. polls in 11 states, including virginia, will be open today in the presidential primaries. today is the largest single-day haul of delegates in the presidential race, and could make or break campaigns. rico bush is live outside a polling place in norfolk with what you need to know before the polls open. rico. good morning, katie and don. in just a few hours, virginia voters will have a chance to weigh in

the number of delegates up for grabs in the commonwealth could be decisive in determining who clinches the presidental nomination for the republican and democratic parties. here's a look at who is on the ballot in virginia. on the democratic side, three people are on the ballot, but only former secretary of state hillary clinton and vermont senator bernie sanders are squaring off in the state's primary. democrats are competing for 95 delegates plus 15 superdelegates. on the republican side, thirteen names will be on the ballot, including many who have dropped out of the race. donald trump, ted cruz, marco rubio, ben carson and john kasich are fighting for a total of 49 delegates in the commonwealth. here's some information to get you through your polling place smoothly. make sure to bring an i-d to vote. if you don't have an i-d, you still can vote, but

for it to count in the primary. all registered voters in virginia can cast ballots in either primary today, but not both - you have to choose one. the polls open at 6 this morning and close at 7 tonight. of course we'll have all the results this evening as soon as the polls close. live in norfolk, rico bush, 10 on your side. meteorologist jeremy wheeler joins us now with a first look at your forecast. jeremy the weather shouldn't affect voters heading to the polls today. new this morning, harsh words from a local lawmaker about donald trump. outgoing congressman scott rigell sent out an open letter saying a trump victory could be detrimental for the republican party. the 2nd district republican went on to write, "i am convinced that if donald trump becomes our nominee, the harm done to our party would be nothing short of catastrophic." congressman rigell says he would not support trump if he became the party's nominee and even called trump an imposter. you can read the letter heads up about school delays and closings on this super tuesday. because of expected long

today more than a dozen local police officers will attend a fallen virginia officer's funeral. they will say goodbye to prince william police officer ashley guindon. a long line of flashing blue and red lights traveled with officer guindon's body from the funeral home to the chapel last night. she died on her first day on patrol. investigators charged army staff sergeant ronald hamilton in her death this past weekend. hundreds came out last night for a vigil remembering those killed in last week's tornado in waverly. community leaders, first responders, and

victims' family members in a service outside annie b. jackson elementary school. as many lit candles --- loved ones released balloons in memory of those lost. trenika stringfield mourns her two- year-old son, ian lewis, her 26-year-old brother, devine stringfield, and her 50-year-old boyfriend, larry turner. the three were inside a mobile home when the deadly storm came through. sot c 28 trenika stringfield - lost three loved ones in tornado 13:12:31 "i feel like they had a relationship with god and i feel like all i know is god knows best and i know that we serve a wonderful god i do know that and i know i know that they in a better place i know that they're gonna be better." eight others were hurt in the storm - including trenika. she is now staying with her mother. an online fundraiser to help her and other family members can be found on wavy-dot- com.

secure your guns. this after two boys, aged seven and nine, are recovering from gunshot wounds. the first happened this past weekend on lancer drive. police say the little boy was playing with the gun and shot himself. investigators say the other shooting happened on morgate lane after a child found a gun and accidently shot another child. portsmouth detective misty holley showed 10 on your side how the gun safety locks work. 59:53 we beleive that if a child is educated and the child understands that firearm safety is very imporant adn tthat you should enver pick up a gun, you should always find an adult that may have been something that was different. 1:00:05 police and seriff's deputies hand out life saving gun locks for free. as for the shootings, officers are testing the guns to see who they belong to. we're told charges are pending. once again, the murder trial for a former portsmouth police officer has moved. 10 on your side learned stephen rankin's trial is now

his trial was orginally supposed to start this month, but a judge pushed it back to august last week. that was because some witnessess were unavailable...which is also why the judge recently moved the trial to july. rankin faces murder charges for shooting and killing last year. looking ahead, jesse matthew junior is expected to plead guilty in the kidnapping and murder cases of two virginia college students. our affliate station in charlottesville reports he'll enter the plea tomorrow in albemarle county. matthew is charged in hannah graham and morgan harrington's murders. without the plea agreement, he could have faced the death penalty. matthew is already serving life in prison for a sexual assault in fairfax county. new this morning, police in porsmouth are investigating car break ins. dispatchers tell us it happened overnight at the renaissance hotel parking garage. that's on water street in old town. we're working to learn how many vehicles were broken into damage. we also want to know if police have any discription of a suspect

developing this morning, dozens of cars vandalized in hampton. this morning police are looking for the suspects involved 37 different cases in the fox hill neighborhood. neighbors told 10 on your side, someone shot out their windows. take a look at this damage. officers say the suspects used a pellet, paintball gun, or slingshot. they say the suspects took off in what may be a pick-up truck. if you can help police find them, call the crime line. this morning a man is back on shore after his boat ran aground. this is video of the coast guard rescuing the guard says the man ran agound sunday and decided to wait until high tide to see if his boat would float again. when it did not, an air team from elizabeth city rescued him and flew him to the williamsburg airport. medics said he was well enough to go home. happening today, after a year in space, astronaut scott kelly will return home. his latest mission explored the effects of long-term space missions on the human body. it's for a possible future trip to mars. nasa will compare kelly's health to his twin brother's mark kelly. kelly will land in kazakhstan. two russian

today nasa hopes to launch an already- rocket, much like this one, back in december. bad weather, payload problems and other issues kept delaying it. scientists hope they'll be ready to launch today between 9:30 and noon. the rocket will carry several engineering projects and experiments from students at west virginia university. new this morning, nasa is investing in jets that can fly faster than the speed of sound. the plan is to make flying safer and quieter. here's a preliminary design. the agency granted a $20-million dollar contract to develop the passenger jet. the jet would use technology to create a soft thump instead of the sonic booms that can be heard for miles. supersonic commercial jet travel ended more than a decade ago when the concorde went out of business. it's super tuesday and

we're on your side with an alert for parents of football players. scientists say many helmets that do not fit, increase the chances of concussions in high school players. data from more than 4-thousand concussions show athletes with improperly fitted helmets, had more drowsiness, noise sensitivity, and hyper excitability compared to those whose helmets fit. the numbers also showed players with helmets that used inflated air rather than foam or gel liners, had concussion symptoms for a longer period of time. a judge put a hold on new york city's salt warning law. it was supposed to go into effect today. the rule is a first of it's kind. it requires restaurants to post a warning on the menu for items that are high in sodium. the national restaurant association asked for the hold last week, after a judge ruled the city could fine restaurants that do not comply.

officials say they're confident the rule will be upheld. supreme court justice clarence thomas broke his decade long silence on the bench. yesterday he asked a government lawyer to give him an example showing where a misdemeanor violation suspended a consitutional right. the case is about a federal law that bans anyone who has a misdemeanor domestic violence conviction from owning a gun. when thomas spoke there were audible gasps in the courtroom. thomas has said in the past it's not unusal for justices to not ask questions, saying thurgood marshall and william brennana rarely did. it's primary day here in virginia and that means many of you will be heading to the polls. we're live outside a polling place in norfolk with everything you need to know before you vote today. plus, new this morning, we'll tell you who's vying for congressman randy
