voters in 11 states including virginia will head to the polls in the presidential primaries. and turnout is expected to be high. the primaries today could decide who gets the presidential nomination for both parties. rico bush is live at a polling place in norfolk this morning with what you need to know before you head to the polls on this super tuesday. rico. don, super tuesday is likely to live up to its name as candidates are bracing for a long and tough night. today's primary in virginia will likely be a make-or-break moment for some presidental candidates, particulary for ben carson or john

in desperate need of a win and ted cruz needs to show he can compete against businessman donald trump. cruz's only win was from the iowa caucus in february. when you vote today, be sure to bring an i- d. all registered voters in virginia can cast ballots in either primary, but not both. the polls open at six this morning and close at seven tonight. three democrats are on the ballot, but only former secretary of state hillary clinton and vermont senator bernie sanders are still in the race. former maryland governor martin o'malley pulled out last month. on the republican side, thirteen names are on the ballot, but only trump, cruz, rubio, carson and kasich can claim victory in virginia's primary today. clinton leading in virginia. but, at this hour, its still uncertain to say

director james comey and apple executives are expected to testify before a house judiciary committee hearing about encryption technology and the balance between security and privacy. the government wants apple to write a program that would unlock syed farook's phone. apple is concerned it would allow the government to access anyone's privacy. there's new information about yesterday's shooting at an ohio high school. investigators say they plan to charge the 14-year-old suspect as an adult. two students were shot and two others hurt trying to escape the cafeteria at madison junior-senior high school yesterday morning. all the injuries are non-life-threatening. police say they do have a motive, but are not releasing it. developing this morning, outrage in north carolina over a deadly officer-involved shooting. it happened last night in raleigh. witnesses say police shot and killed 24- year-old akiel denkins as he was running away. police have not identified him yet, but say they were chasing a drug suspect. investigators say they

the suspect's body. witnesses say denkins wasn't armed. the shooting caused this massive protest last night in downtown raleigh. more than 300 people marched through the streets. there was a similar rally yesterday in utah protesting the shooting of 17-year- old abdullahi mohamed. he's in the hospital in critical condition after two officers shot him saturday. police say he and another person were beating a man, and didn't stop after officers told him to. new this morning, suffolk police are trying to solve an undetermined death. around 1:30 this morning, someone called 9-1-1 after finding a man's body at the pleasant hill cemetery on old dill road. detectives say the medical examiner will determine who the person is and how he died. call the crime line if you know anything. now to a follow-up of a deadly fire we first brought to you yesterday morning. last night people gathered at the urbanna baptist church to remember two people who died at

marina. this is video from our sister station in richmond. police are investigating the fire as arson. beth justice sent us this video of the fire that started burning yesterday morning around 4:30. we spoke to friends of the two people who died. she said the victims were living on their boat during a renovation of their home. c0042 - lisa baechler - lost boat in fire "there are a lot of wonderful all kind of going up in flames and we feel for our friends" police have not identified the victims. their bodies were taken to the medical examiner's office in richmond. police say a total 21 boats were destroyed in the fire. now to a new development in former virginia governor bob mcdonnell's appeal. his legal team filed its opening brief to the u-s supreme court. his lawyers believe a federal jury unfairly convicted him on an overly-broad

the supreme court will argue the case in april, and we expect a decision sometime in june. this all stems from a 20-14 conviction where a jury found both mcdonnell and his wife maureen guilty of public corruption for trading political favors for gifts and loans. today the family of late supreme court justice antonin scalia will hold a memorial in his honor. it will be at the mayflower hotel in washington, d-c. several supreme court justices are expected to speak at today's service. justice scalia died on february 13th in texas. he was 79 years old. now to a story you'll only see only on 10. lawmakers in richmond disagree over a toll bill designed to protect you. it calls for free passage - meaning not all lanes can be tolled. that would affect crossings like the h- r-b-t and the monitor merrimac. the bill also calls for better electronic notification of unpaid

new this morning, wild video showing a car slamming into a gas station. check it out - you see a dark-colored car hit another car then knock over a gas pump and start a fire. one driver runs off. the other driver gets out and then frantically tries to free a passenger in a dark-colored car. firefighters were able to get the fire under control in a couple of hours. police have not said if anyone was hurt, and they are still investigating what caused the car to lose control. also new this morning, watch as this bus in san francisco erupted in flames. firefighters rushed to put the fire out because the bus was parked near a gas station. no passengers were on-board at the time. the driver got out safely. the fire was so intense, several gas pumps

ballot, but only former secretary of state hillary clinton and vermont senator bernie sanders are squaring off in the state's primary. democrats are competing for 95 delegates plus 15 superdelegates. on the republican side, thirteen names will be on the ballot, including many who have dropped out of the race. donald trump, ted cruz, marco rubio, ben carson and john kasich are fighting for a total of 49 delegates in the commonwealth. here's some information to get you through your polling place smoothly. make sure to bring an i-d to vote. if you don't have an i-d, you still can vote, but you'll need to take some extra steps for it to count in the primary. all registered voters in virginia can cast ballots in either primary today, but not both - you have to choose one. the polls open at 6 this morning and close at 7 tonight. of course we'll have all the results this evening as soon as the polls

new this morning, harsh words from a local lawmaker about donald trump. outgoing congressman scott rigell sent out an open letter saying a trump victory could be detrimental for the republican party. the 2nd district republican went on to write, "i am convinced that if donald trump becomes our nominee, the harm done to our party would be nothing short of catastrophic." congressman rigell says he would not support

party's nominee and even called trump an imposter. you can read the letter right now on wavy dot com. now to the video everyone is talking about. the secret service says agents are investigating an incident involving a photographer during a donald trump rally at radford university. watch as agents choke and slam a time magazine photographer to the ground. agents say chris morris was working when he stepped outside the media pen. an agent grabbed him by the neck, threw him into a table, and bodyslammed him to the floor! the seceret service says it is aware of the incident and working with police to determine what exactly led up to the incident. morris is veteran white house photographer. time magazine says he is doing okay, and should be back at work soon. morris said he had been working at the white house for 9 years, and never had an incident with the secret service. today more than a dozen local police officers will attend a fallen

officer's funeral. they will say goodbye to prince william police officer ashley guindon. a long line of flashing blue and red lights traveled with officer guindon's body from the funeral home to the chapel last night. she died on her first day of patrol. investigators charged army staff sergeant ronald hamilton in her death this past weekend. hundreds came out last night for a vigil remembering those killed in last week's tornado in waverly. community leaders, first responders, and supporters joined the victims' family members in a service outside annie b. jackson elementary school. as many lit candles --- loved ones released balloons in memory of those lost. trenika stringfield mourns her two- year-old son, ian lewis, her 26-year-old brother, devine stringfield, and her 50-year-old boyfriend, larry turner. the three were inside a mobile home when the deadly storm came through. sot c 28 trenika stringfield - lost three loved ones in tornado 13:12:31 "i feel

neighborhood. neighbors told 10 on your side, someone shot out their windows. take a look at this damage. officers say the suspects used a pellet, paintball gun, or slingshot. they say the suspects took off in what may be a pick-up truck. if you can help police find them, call the crime portsmouth police officer has moved. 10 on your side learned stephen rankin's trial is now scheduled for july. his trial was orginally supposed to start this month, but a judge pushed it back to august last week. that was because some witnessess were unavailable...which is also why the judge recently moved the trial to july. rankin faces murder charges for shooting and killing william chapman the third last year. looking ahead, jesse matthew junior is expected to plead guilty in the kidnapping and murder cases of two virginia college students. our affliate station in charlottesville reports he'll enter the plea tomorrow in albemarle county. matthew is charged in hannah graham and morgan harrington's murders. without the

a water main break has many people in southern california scrambling to save their homes from flooding. check out what happened when a 12 inch main broke in mission beach. that's just north of san diego. the main valve to shut-off the flow was underwater, so it took crews several hours to reach it. fire crews came in to help drain the flooded homes. happening today, after a year in space, astronaut scott kelly will return home. his latest mission explored the effects of long-term space missions on the human body. it's for a possible future trip to mars. nasa will compare kelly's health to his twin brother's mark kelly. kelly will land in kazakhstan. two russian astronauts will ride back with him. today nasa hopes to launch an already- rescheduled rocket from the eastern shore. they were originally supposed to shoot the rocket, much like this one, back in december. bad weather, payload problems and other issues kept delaying it. scientists hope they'll be ready to launch today between 9:30 and noon.
