later this morning, the old norfolk courthouse will be history. demolition crews will begin chomping away at the building that served the city for decades. city leaders says they're making room for a new civic plaza and justice system. rico bush is live in norfolk with more on what's happening today with the project. rico. don, katie, city leaders say demolishing the 50-year-old building marks a new beginning of the construction on civic plaza improvements that have been in the making for years. city council began the journey to build a new

plaza complex in 2-thousand-4. last summer, crews tore down the old general district courthouse to make room for the city's three courts including the juvenile and domestic relations court and a law library. the old circuit courthouse, which crews built in the 19-60s, will come down this morning to start phase two for the new court complex and civic plaza. renovations include raising the plaza to prevent flooding, making more public space and extending main street to create a new public drop off area. all of this comes with a price tag of about $1-hundred-23 million dollars. the entire project is scheduled to be complete in 20-17. live in norfolk, rico bush, 10 on your side. in hampton, a high rise is set to come down next sunday, march 13th. crews will demolish the lincoln park apartment tower. the 46-year-old building

years. crews will haul away the wreckage to make room for a new housing community that's should to be ready to open for residents in 20-19. today people in the community will gather at camp pendleton in virginia beach to remember virginia air national guard members lost 15 years ago today. 3/3/2015 4 vb red horse ceremony later this morning there will be a ceremony for 18 heroes of the 203rd red horse squadron and three florida army national guard aviators. you're looking at video from last year's wreath laying. the service members died in 2001 while returning from training when their plane crashed in a field in georgia. it was the worst peacetime aviation disaster in the history of the national guard. a follow-up now to that deadly marina fire in middlesex county monday. state police say the victims are 75-year- old francis blantz and 65-year-old julia blantz. the victims were living on their boat while their home was under rennovation. about 20 boats were destroyed. police are investigating

there's a probable cause hearing today in the case of a man accused of randomly shooting and killing people in kalamazoo, michigan. today's meeting sets up an important one next week that will determine if there's enough evidence against jason dalton to go to trial. the prosecutor plans to speak to the public after today's meeting. six people died, and two people are recovering from the february 20th shooting ramage. also happening today - arguments over deflategate. the n-f-l is appealing a ruling that overturned new england patriots quarterback tom brady's suspension. the n-f-l suspended brady for four games after an investigation into whether he under inflated footballs during the 20-14 season. a judge overruled that saying the nfl acted improperly. the league says it stands by its decision. new this morning, a smash & grab robbery caught on tape! find out how the suspects made off with dozens of weapons. a family's search for answers after someone

this kid's hole-in-one. new this morning, newport news police are investigating two overnight shootings. we just got off the phone with investigators who say, the first happened around 12:30 this morning on jefferson avene near langley avenue. that's just north of harpersville road. police say someone shot the man in the chest. he should recover. a few minutes later, another gunshot victim walked into riverside regional medical center. police say someone shot him several

stomach. he's in critical condition this morning. police say the two shootings are related. call the crime line if you know anything. new this morning, arrests in a brazen gun store smash and grab caught on camera. we learned that information overnight from our affiliate in houston. federal authorities arrested several people in the case, but believe more on still on the loose. take a look at the unbelievable video of about 10 people breaking into the store tuesday. you can see them wrap a chain around the barred doors and then use a truck to break it open. once they get inside they go on a free- for-all grabbing whatever they can. investigators say they got away with more than 50 guns. also new this morning, an officer in alabama faces a murder charge for shooting and killing an unarmed black man last month in montgomery. police say 23-year-old officer aaron smith thought 59-year-old gregory gunn was acting suspicious. there

and morgan harrington. matthew will spend the rest of his life behind bars. he received four consecutive life sentences, and waived his right to parole. 10 on your side was outside the albemarle county courthouse as the parents of the graham and harrington expressed relief at the plea agreement, and talked about the holes left in their lives. john graham - victim's father "his evil deprived the world of a great talent, but hannah's enduring gift to us all is that she enabled this wicked man to be apprehended and convicted. she did change the world, but at a terrible price." gil harrington - victim's mother "the finality and accountability that has been achieved today with this plea agreement, will allow our family to redirect energy into healing and recovery" matthew's attorney said his client was sorry and that he loved his family. he's currently serving a

get ready to oooooo and aaahhhhhhh at a unique display at norfolk botanical garden. the lantern-asia exhibit opens saturday. art by day, magic by night. these are pictures of some of the asian lantern garden. from dragons to waterfalls, fish and flamingoes. there's even a magical white palace made from plates and dishware. the exhibit has been in beijing, sydney and rotterdam. now its in norfolk from saturday to april 30th. an 11-year-old hit a hole-in-one during a special golf outing in texas. taylor crozier helped cristen this new course designed by tiger woods. lots of people, including tiger himself, were watching. taylor aced the hole from

later this morning, norfolk city leaders will say goodbye to the old norfolk courthouse. demolition crews will began tearing down the building to make room for a new civic plaza. the city says demolishing the 50- year-old building marks a big step forward in improving the city's new justice system and downtown area. rico bush is live in norfolk with more on the project taking place this morning. rico. good morning don, katie. after 50 years, norfolk says it's ushering in a new era with that brand new plaza aimed to give the city a new and vibrant look. norfolk started its journey to build a new courthouse and civic plaza complex in 2-thousand-4. renovations include raising the plaza to prevent flooding, making more public open space, and extending main street to create a new public drop off area. the new city courthouse opened last year with the circuit and general district courts.

more than a week after the waverly storm, neighbors have cleared a good amount of debris. crews were picking up the last of it from the streets when 10 on your side returned. they were covered with rubble after 110-mile-per-hour winds blew homes and businesses apart. while people are starting to rebuild, one business owner tells us dealing with insurance is already on his mind. neighborhood. planners hope it can a place for children to go for mentoring and tutoring. neighbors tell us they were concerned about security, something city officials say they've addressed. sot - tanya shadley , neighbor - clip 21 5:32:02 we're very concnered about how much traffic comes in and out and if people are just hanging out you dont want the neighborhood looking like that. 5:20:35 security was very important. to me they needed to have cameras in and outside and they promised to have that. 5:20:44 only councilman jim wood voted against "the spot" tuesday. he told us, he didn't think it was a good use of residential space. teachers and staff could be getting a small raise, if city council approves the virginia beach school board's budget. the proposal also includes ten extended kindergarten classes, and 20 new school busses. if it passes, school officials say they will not need to increase class sizes and they'll be able to hire more people.
