breaking overnight - chesapeake police are looking for a suspect who took them on a high-speed chase through two cities. officers say he took-off in chesapeake, then drove into portsmouth. rico bush is at chesapeake police headquarters, right now, with the latest details on the chase. rico - don, katie, we've making calls to police working to get more details on the chase. at this hour, officers have not returned our calls, but here's what we were able to gather from our sources. according to portsmouth police, officers in chesapeake contacted them just before 12-30 to help them catch the suspect on

washington highway. moments later, our weekend producer watched as about seven police cars quickly followed a motorcycle in front of our station near court street. police tell me the chase lasted for about seven minutes in portsmouth before officers called off the high-speed pursuit. our sources say chesapeake officers lost the driver somewhere in the city. chesapeake dispatch could not tell us where the chase started nor where it ended. this morning, i'll be checking in with police to find out why officers started chasing the suspect and who they are looking for. i'll keep you posted on what i learn about the chase. live in chesapeake rico bush, 10 on your side. new this morning, virginia beach police are looking for a shooting suspect at the oceanfront. dispatchers say it happened around 2:00 this morning in the parking lot of "the cave nightclub" on atlantic avenue. police searched the area for a man they say, fired a gun. no one was hit. police have not found the shooter. this morning we can show

duplex fire in norfolk. dispatchers told us firefighters saw smoke coming from the home on chesapeake boulevard late last night. you can see the damage on the second floor. the windows upstairs are boarded up. we're working to learn if the fire displaced anyone and if anyone got hurt. we'll keep checking throughout the morning and bring you any updates. we're also working to get you more information about the person investigators say dumped 500 gallons of paint down a drain in chespeake. fire investigators told us they cleaned up the mess friday in the south hill neighborhood. firefighters also said they know who did it and caught the suspect. investigators believe the suspect emptied the buckets to hold scrap metal. this morning we're investigating a fire fighter suspended for speaking to the media. sources confirmed city manager lydia pettis patton suspended this man, rusty quillin. he's the president of the local fire union, and he spoke to us last year about staffing shortages. the fire union spokesman says they're currently

developing this morning police across several cities are investigating at least eight separate shootings from this past weekend. one man died saturday in ocean view. three other victims are in the hopsital with life-threatening injuries. one is a teenager from newport news, and the other two are men from virginia beach and hampton. let's begin with the deadly shooting in norfolk. it happened saturday afternoon on kingston avenue. police say they found robert kinght, the third, in the driver's seat of a white minivan. someone shot knight several times. paramedics rushed him to the hospital where he died. neighbors told us they don't feel safe in their neighborhood. vanessa carter-west / neighbor c0032 1:31:07 this is literally where i walk i go all the way down this road and back up to my apartment like i said i wont be doing that again." 1:31:15 " investigators believe the suspect or suspects are dangerous. witnesses last saw a blue or grey small car with heavy front end damage. call police if you see the vehicle. two other shootings happened in norfolk last

recovering in the hospital. it happened on pollard street in the lindenwood neighborhood. officers found him lying in the street. police tell us they found another shooting victim on lead street just a few hours later. that person is expected to be okay. investigators say the shootings are not connected. police in portsmouth say a man is in the hospital following a shooting. it happened yesterday afternoon on portsmouth boulevard near staunton avenue. we're working to learn how that man is doing. police in virginia beach caught a suspect in an early morning shooting not too far from the scene at a hotel. the victim is in the hospital with life- threatening injuries. officers found him on atlantic avenue near virginia beach boulevard at the oceanfront. police say the suspect fled the scene, but they found him nearby. all the commotion yesterday woke up several neighbors. brian sloggie / woken by gunshots c0025 6:17 " i was in my room and watching tv early this morning i just heard shots fired." 6:22 you know who is gonna do anything? youre gonna stay where

"6:27 we're working to learn who the suspect and victim are, and what charges the suspect faces. in hampton, a man is in the hospital fighting for his life after a shooting saturday. it happened on nickerson boulevard. we're working to learn how the man is doing today and if police have any suspect information. the eighth shooting involved two victims in newport news. police say someone shot a 17-year-old in the back. he's in the hospital this morning. the other victim is an 18-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her left thight. she's expected to be okay. investigators say the victims were at a party on hamilton drive when a fight broke out. call the crime line if call the crime line if you have information on any of these shootings. developing in washington, we could soon learn president barack obama's supreme court nominee. reporters camped out at the white house, checking visitor's lists for any clues.

reports the president is vetting jane kelly. she's a federal appeals court judge from iowa. if she is nominated that would put republican senator chuck grassley in a bind. he's in charge of confirmation hearings and supported kelly in the past. republicans in the senate said they would not vote on a nominee this year. ((sen. mitch mcconnell / r-kentucky)) this vacancy will not be filled this year. other possible judges on the president's short list are sri srinivasan, a u-s circuit court judge in d-c, and patricia millett, a u-s appeals court judge, also in d-c. there's even talk of attorney general lorettea lynch as a potential nominee. today the united state's olympic committee will discuss athlete's growing concerns about the zika virus. the committee formed an infectious disease advisory group last week. the olympics start in august, which is brazil's cool season. organizers expect the infected mosquito

their concerns about contracting the virus that has led to birth defects. a strong el nino weather pattern brought a lot of rain to parts of california. check out this flooding in a neighborhood north of sacramento. police say one woman died after 8 feet of water trapped her inside a car. investigators arrested the driver, who managed to escape, for driving drunk and vehicular manslaughter. the storm also knocked down trees and power lines. thousands of customers were in the dark yesterday. the much needed rain is expected to last into this morning. yesterday, former first lady nancy reagan died from congestive heart failure, she was 94. nancy reagan was remembered as a champion of the "just say no" campaign to end childhood drug use, as well as a great protector and supporter of her late husband former president ronald reagan. :00-:16 nancy reagan was indispensable to every success that president reagan enjoyed. she was his closest advisor. she was his constant protector. and of course she was the love of his life. former white house chief of staff james baker says nancy was the love of president reagan's life. nancy reagan will be buried next to her husband at the reagan library in california. the public can pay their respects later in the week. president jimmy carter does not need anymore treatment for cancer. carter shared this news yesterday with his congregation in atlanta.

this morning a high school wrestler is off the team. the athlete in california says he contracted herpes from a wreslting tournament. now he's sharing his story so other students know the risks on the mat. (sot: david deloach, wrestler) "i thought it was just acne because it first started on my face, all right here, and it was weird because i never had acne in my hair." that's david deloach. the high school junior started noticing bumps on his

to his ear, arm and legs. his doctor diagnosed him with herpes. david said it hurt so bad, he couldn't sleep. he was also depressed and says his friends rejected him.
