center in or three points in newport news. right now virginia is under a state of emergency in our coverage of the governor's declaration is coming up but as far as the night is concerned jeff how's it looking and it's looking fine and has to be cold don't get me wrong but it's been cold a lot lately the tricky part the forecast starts tomorrow and let a lot more on that as you can see it's nice and clear out there it'll stay that way to the evening during the overnight will start to see an increase in the clouds let's take a look at the rest of the forecast and as we go through that your going to notice there's nothing on radar here but we're already starting to see a little bit of moisture way down there by raleigh that's the very very front leading edge of this thing moving towards but for this evening when the mid thirties were going to drop back pretty quickly into the upper twenties and then not go a whole lot below that we're going to soar to stay in the mid to upper twenties here throughout the evening and even most of the overnight as well let me show you snow amounts these are just through the end of rush hour tomorrow
4:01 pm
friday at seven is because by then most of our area will have changed over from either snow or a mix over to jess primarily rain at that point so again these are the numbers just three seven it'll never change from richmond westward maybe even a little bit east of richmond so these are just through seven o'clock three to six inches in richmond if you're heading up that way one to three for much of our peninsula areas and then a trace to two inches possibly from some leaning toward the lower end of that but certainly two inches is not out of the question and then again we change to rain. how much to get on the backside how much they get up north without any kind of a changeover will have all that information coming up in just a little while. i think stuff i write now virginia is under a state of emergency and that gives state agencies more flexibility to respond to severe weather issues the governor came to norfolk after declaring this emergency christina's for j

a winter storm we all want to know about road conditions right well there are people who work very hard to keep all of us informed and get assistance out to us if we're ever stuck on the roads and they're the folks at the dots transportation operations center. they make their mark with teamwork tenacity and olog when you first walk and all you can say is wow pretty much every time i come in here and here were kenny cody and other v dot workers help you every day using this wall of monitors that covers three hundred cameras but who loves helping people and the biggest way this big wall helps the storm is by letting me document know what's happening or has any accidents any backups any bad road conditions and candies as most of the time this is the first screen will go to the chill points going to get out of the road
4:23 pm
depicted up we're going to whether the bill would put more compact in the comfort room with the command that they don't come and hear constant have to ask questions take a look at the screen and get to answer the accident. don't interrupt the control room operators little boy sisters who have their hands full. the man may not know when to stop and disable all the candidates who has been so active with the goal is to progress to get the info in an instant the most important thing that we can do about real i'll probably wait for much of this is what it is taken care off or comment . consider this a dry run for what could lie ahead as the lagoons and we have to do with the goal keeper didn't move. they are great guys yes and they also work hand in hand with state police notified them about a bad road conditions in assisting with disabled drivers are accidents and can

just through friday afternoon or evening around just after the dinner at just after rush hour around the time that everything changes over from a mix or snow or rain even in are some of our northern areas like on the peninsula and then will continue to work that rain snow line up to just east of richmond traced to two inches at the most around here and probably lower amounts in that range when she got up on the peninsula one to three inches again the higher amounts will and to be a little bit more north and or west and then richmond just stays all snow and three to six again just through friday evening this is when things are just going to be picking up. so talk about the mix the changeover. let's give you now the entire storm system. and here we go through saturday morning at seven forty five remember it's not over with yet actually this isn't the entire storm. this is now including the stuff from friday night into saturday morning and you can see the amounts are going up in some of these inland areas

people all over hampton roads are preparing their homes for the approaching winter weather joining us now to talk about the necessities is been eight hours from dominion power thank you so much for joining us we can have a disaster without them and empower helping us out here. anyone seen people do if they lose power. well the first thing they should do is let us know the sooner they let us know the sooner we can send a crew out of their house to work on getting it repaired. people often assume dominion knows when powers exactly we want to make sure that they know that we don't automatically know when they have the power even if their neighbor across the street notified that they may be on a different circuit so make sure you contact us and the quickest ways to go right on your smartphone including dom dot com or you can report and check the status of outages lesson we had ice on the power lines and power lines start falling down this is a dangerous time for the workers and for the home. absolutely you always should assume a downline is energize and can be very dangerous anything touching it can often be very
4:30 pm
downed power lines and contact us immediately if you see its parking then combine one one. let's talk about inside the home for me to quite often people do desperate things to stay warm when they lose power. well we know how important it is to have power because everybody counts on and we want to make for that were there for them when they need it the most so something they might do is turn the fireplace may need to make for their flu is cleaned out to nothing up there catches fire. if they use a space heater a generator. i just wanna make sure they follow all of the safe operating instructions for the most important thing to all of this is to be prepared and stay safe and this is a huge system affecting the mid atlantic region your crews are prepared to help after lowe's and other regions as well. well we're focused on our region right now because we're not sure how much it looks like it's going to affect a pretty large area of hampton roads and northern north carolina and we may be dealing with a combination of weather systems like light fluffy snow in one area wet
4:31 pm
combination of rain snow mix and then we have a strong wind that jeff was just talking about that can also knock trees around power lines. so our crews right now are staying put all of our crews are ready to work around the clock and we have contacted utilities in neighboring states to come help us if we needed i needed thank you so much for joining us and how you do to help us be prepared for things you can log on to thirteen years now the content staying ready for the winter weather survival guide the guide is under the weather tab on the website it shows more attempts to stay warm and safe in the upcoming cold weather yet and with this cold weather and the chance for snow as well. holy shelters continue to help out a lot of people in these yeah there's a lot of resources shelters in hampton roads will be open to keep runaway homeless youth and families in need of temporary housing for a night with the cold weather in front of us these shelters are working hard to keep the home was off the streets and in a safe place. there are resources available including clinical and treatment center
4:32 pm
of these the homeless shelters in norfolk include the dwelling place that on west thirty seventh st the shelters are twenty four hour family shelter and the union mission in norfolk as well that on east virginia beach boulevard the shelters open for twenty four hours a day for many single women and women with children working to get these and more shelter locations up on thirteen years now dot com help you or someone you may know my reasons are the second hour traffic. are we had a big issue in the alley or in your county we got a lot of information from police about that so essentially a flat bed truck lost an axle as it was traveling through your county on sixty four west one off the road struck the bridge traffic shut down for awhile so i'm starting to get good news updates and we'll head over now to our car traffic network maps of the camera a bit of good news as we kind of make it through the afternoon rush hour here as we take a look at the first of course if you're not headed that way you can feel things are shaping up
4:33 pm
several spots in pretty decent shape some not so much let's go ahead and talk about that accident updates you can see here we still have the left lane blocked again the sixty four westbound between queens road overpass there and camp areas around mile marker two thirty nine again that left wing still blocked would notice the right lane is open you can see that steady stream of traffic there expect a slight delay they are approaching the accident scene and passing it. but ard de torre has been lifted over to route one ninety nine so you don't have to worry about hopping off the interstate before you get to the scene of the crash now we did get a picture from state police of the accident so that you want to give you a look at this this is what shutdown nears it out there on sixty four west for a while and again is going to be in the clearing stages for just a bit longer to let you know when all of our lanes are open but again we're still working to find out more details on injuries are or anything that may be kind of a result of this crash and for now we'll head back to the traffic network maps and just kind of go over the rest
