dearborn county tonight after a 40- vehicle pileup on 74! good evening, i'm tricia macke. take a look at this! police say it all started when a squall hit the highway this morning...causing a chain reaction that crews are still cleaning up. our own ben katko is live on scene the latest. ben what can you tell us? traffic is moving on the eastbound side of the

but it's still a westbound lanes. there's no timetable for when those will reopen. what you're seeing right now was sent to us by viewer rob there are 40 vehicles involved... trucks between scenes a half mile apart. six people were to hospitals... none be life threatening police tell us. all of this... police do believe... is thanks to the weather conditions here. they think reduced visibility and bad snow squalls is what caused it. all in all... it's been a very slow and cleanup. "you can't tow big trucks we're finding are able to come in and the scene and it's taking some time to make that happpen." again... the

with more reaction from the drivers. .. many drivers told me they are still in a little shock after they found out there are no deaths in this pileup on i-74. they say they went from car to car after the accident was complete checking on people to make sure they were safe. one guy says everyone was in surprisingly good spirits. here's one driver describing how he went from car to car making sure everyone was doing ok. "crawled under some trailers found another gentleman pinned in an suv with a tracker- trailer on top of his car. i was talking with him, he was with it. just kept moving vehicle to vehicle. that description was said by many people here.

people with only a few scratches and bruises and no one dead. live in west harrison shawn lanier fox19 now thanks shawn. obviously a lot of weather to talk about today. chief meteorologist steve horstmeyer joins us now. steve what are we looking at for the rest of the night? snow has come to end across the area. 1-2 inch snow totals have been common with isolated 3 inch totals. snow cover has been limited in some locations due to high winds. attention now shifts to the falling temperatures behind the cold front. expect mostly clear skies overnight with lows early tomorrow morning around 5 degrees. a few rural areas could get as cold as 0. winds will die down as the night progresses, but feels like temperatures will still dip below zero. temperatures this

joins us live from the scene. mike, what's the latest on the investigation. cincinnati police are still trying to piece together exactly what happened inside this home on blanchard avenue this morning... the teenager who lives here should have been in school and that's what surprised his father who thought the house was empty.. 1-911 dispatcher: "what is the address to the emergency? father: "blanchard ave, price hill. i just shot my son by accident." police say 14-year- old...georta mack...left the house for school but decided to skip class and then snuck back into his basement. authorities say georta's father...grabbed his gun and went downstairs when he heard a noise and when he opened the door to the basement...the teen jumped out from behind it. 2-911 father: "he scared me. i thought he was in school. i heard a noise until i went downstairs looking. and he jumped out at me and i shot him. he scared me!"

"i watched the news and they said he died and i lost it. i had already lost it when i found out. like, it breaks my heart. he didn't deserve that." friend courizma williams says georta and his father has a good relationship. 2courizma "they had a really close bond. his dad would do anything for him. his dad always wanted to keep him out of the streets. keep him from being bad." 2pete "this is just a total tragedy that a young man even before he begins to live has his life ended in this manner." community leader pete mingo has eight sons himself...and says he can't even imagine himself in this situation.. 3pete "and the father? oh my god. is really something because...you can put yourself in that situation? oh yeah, he has to be all torn up inside." cincinnati police chief eliot issac says having a gun in the house is a matter of personal choice....but with it comes a personal responsibility.. 1isaac "if you're going to own a firearm you need to be trained. you need to be prepared and these types of tragedies are so horrific. they're even unimaginable." in light of the shooting...the chief's message to school kids is a

about last night's fatal officer involved shooting in price hill. tonight city and police officials are standing by the officers who pulled the trigger. fox19 now's gordon graham is live with more. cincinnati police chief eliot isaac and even mayor john cranley say that the two officers involved in last night's fatal shooting followed procedure and were absolutely justified in their use of deadly force. john----this guy pointed a gun at our police. that is totally unacceptable. the ordeal began at about 8 o'clock last night when a gunman....shown in this surveilance video...walks into this walgreens in the 4200-block of glenway, pulls out a pistol and demands money, but he leaves empty handed. within moments police dispatch broadcast this alert. dispatcher-----repor t of a store robbery at gunpoint at the price hill walgreens 4241 glenway. store was robbed at gunpoint by a male white in his 30's, six-two,

wearing blue pajama pants. moments later the gunman goes into the deals store and demands money at gunpoint. he leaves with about 400 dollars and within seconds the store clerk in on the phone with police. clerk----we just had a guy come in and pull a gun on me. dispatcher---did he take any cash from you. clerk----no he took cash from my drawer. dispatch once again issued a description of the gunman. this dash cam video shows how the suspect was confronted by police along rapid run road near sunset. dash cam----turn around the gunman ignores repeated orders to get his hands out of his pockets. nat sound----turn around, stop fcking looking at me. get your hands out of your fcking pockets, get your hands out your pockets, get your hands up. keep your hands where i can see them. keep your hands up i'm telling. you. at this moment the gunman pulls the weapon from his waistband and is shot by police. nat sound. the gunman has been identified as 45

officers, which means they had other law enforcement experience, before joining cpd. we start off with officer andrea harmon. who served in the navy from 1997-2003. for a short time in 12/10-4/11 from 2010 to 2011 harmon worked as an auxiliary police officer for newtonsville in clermont county. and from 5/10-4/14 2010-2014 she worked as a police sergeant for the department of veterans affairs, before cincinnati police officer later in the year. 7/14 officer kevin manz held three position during that time he worked as an auxiliary patrolman for carlisle police, a security officer for health alliance, and as a patrolman for cleves police. in july of 2000 he joined the university of cincinnati police department as a police officer, until 2014. he was promoted to cincinnati police officer later in the year. lateral offices must go through ohio peace officer
