kentucky.... capped off by a random act of kindness. but while the winter blast took it easy on us... a much different story along the east coast where some cities are shutting everything down... good evening everyone, i'm frankie jupiter. new york city, baltimore and d-c... all getting the worst of it... with some areas expected to dig out of nearly 30 inches of snow when it's all said and done. a powerful winter storm is bearing down right now with at least 12 fatalities reported. fox news correspondent joel waldman has more. waldman says oncam intro : "this blizzard is living up to its hype here in washington - while new york city was caught off guard... with the snow totals there already tripling forecasters predictions." a travel ban is in effect for new york city as the mayor there warned of the potential for 20, 25 or even maybe 30 inches of snow. de blasio says: "until we finally see this storm end and we see just how much was dumped on us, then we can estimate

fox19 now's gordon graham spent the day in maysville kentucky where many are saying... it could have been much worse. open---this collapsed awning is probably the only casualty of yesterday's heavy snowfall here in maysville. today the streets of this town are mostly clear and the mayor says that's because they had a well executed snow removal plan. david-----we knocked it down early and just kept going, you know, through the night. mayville mayor david cartmell also gives credit to experienced plow operators. david----we got a bunch of legacy know, their families have been working for us for years their jobs they know what to do. we had the trucks loaded and inside where it was nice and warm and i mean everything was staged and it has to be here just simply because of the hills. towns hills need particular david---the hills and salted first. ten blocks of hill drivers here and you start coming off the hill on snow and ice and

snow was coming down in central kentucky... a local man found himself right in the middle of it... stuck on the highway for 15 hours! but when it was all said and done... he remembered a simple act of kindness. saturday's snow did more than put a halt to flights across the midwest. it also put a stop to drivers traveling on i-75. "once i got to the london exit, it was all backed up. you couldn't even get off. and i maybe went a mile beyond that and we just came to a halt." vern wooten was traveling from atlanta back to loveland. he says he wait on i-75 for 15 hours. "it was still really snowing hard and it really picked up the snow. that was probably the big thing, for probably the next 5 or 6 hours it really came down and it got realty deep on the interstate while we were

crews are investigating a fire that broke out in lincoln heights tonight around 7- thirty. you're looking at the scene on the 1- thousand block of van buren street. when firefighters arrived they found smoke and flames showing from the building. so far no injuries have been reported, and no word on a possible cause. a victim has died following a bond hill shootout earlier this month. police say i-esha williams was shot when several people opened fire as they drove by her car on the 48- hundred block of reading road. williams was listed in critical condition at u-c medical center until her passing this morning. as of right now police haven't released any information about a possible suspect. if you know anything, call crimestoppers at 513-352-3040. a four vehicle crash caused some traffic issues on 75 this afternoon. this was the scene on the southbound lanes near harrison avenue just after 3-o- clock.

truck clipped a semi... causing a chain reaction crash that caused major backup for nearly 45 minutes. several minor injuries were reported. crews are still investigating a three alarm overnight fire in pendleton. crews were called to the vacant building on 12th street finding flames shooting through the roof! luckily no injuries were reported but firefighters had problems drawing water as many fire hydrants were frozen over. at this point no cause has been revealed. and that fire could big safety the area. today the local red cross chapter announced that they'll be going around the area smoke alarms. group say the blitz was something they were planning to do for some time... this stress the importance of having a working smoke detector.
