yesterday's madison school shooting that left 4 students injured... and a 14- year old suspect behind bars. good evening, i'm tricia macke. i just got off the phone with chief anthony dwyer from the butler county sheriff's office who gave us new details about what exactly happened. he tells us james hancock got the gun from a relative on saturday. and the morning of the shooting.. he told two students that he had a gun... even showing his loaded gun, to one student just before the shooting. then dwyer tells us as hancock got up from a round table.. after the resource officer left the cafeteria.. and ran toward the door... and started

at one of those tables. as we know the two people shot were 15-year old cameron smith and 14-year old cooper caffrey. 9 seconds later... officer ken hill cafeteria... chased after hancock on foot.. then by car.. and cornered him. custody.. after surrendering in a field a half mile away... 21 minutes after the shooting. that's where he found the .380 caliber gun. by the way.. dwyer says there's surveillance video ey he.but aren't releasing yet.. and 4 hours of police radio traffic. meanwhile.. students and their parents are walking through the halls right now as part of an open house aimed at easing the minds of everyone in the school. fox19 now's mike schell joins us live.... mike what's the scene like? roll cue to pkg: "....try to cope with

superintendent of madison local schools held a press conference to announce some changes when classes resume tomorrow. crisis counselors will be available for students.... and additional staffers will be on school busses and inside the cafeteria to help everyone feel safe. "we'll have additional supports in the cafeteria the next few days again with our goal of returning to as much normalcy as we can.... our number one priority is making students feel safe despite what happened." just a few hours ago... investigators released more 9-1-1 calls from students shedding more light on what exactly happened. "dispatcher: butler county 911 whats the adress of... caller: there was a shooting, there was a shooting at madison high. dispatcher: ok, ok, we have help in route. are you at the school? are you at the school? caller: no i ran out to

friends. dispatcher: are you a student? yeah, i'm an 8th grader. dispatcher: you're an 8th grader? where are you? caller: i'm at the football field." today the suspected shooter faced a judge for the first time... and while you see james hancock right here...a judge ordered that his face not be shown in court. fox19 now's sara celi was there as emotions ran high. james austin hancock's hearing only lasted about 90 seconds and he came into the courtroom showing little emotion on his face.... his family members were in the gallery section, several of them were very upset, they were crying as the judge read out the charges and also as the attorney responded to those charges. his attorney denying all the charges and basically entering a not guilty plea in juvenile court, then he was sent back to the juvenile justice center and that's where he's going to stay here in butler county until his pre-trial hearing,

we continue our school shooting... you're looking at footage of parents reuniting with their kids after the situation unfolded.... and in any situation like this... a sense of community plays a big role in consoling those involved... and getting things back to normal. that's exactly what happened today in madison township. fox19 now's shawn lanier spent the day at a popular hangout for students... where many say they're ready to move on. shawn lanier: "this coffee shop is the hangout spot for many madison school students, and it's all about good times here. this friday the owner says she hopes to bring that feeling back to the madison community." heather gibson: "we fell in love with them they fell in love with us and they've just become out family" peace... love... and lattes.. triple moon coffee has provided a safe place for many of the madison students since the business opened. heather gibson: "they actually opened us up. the first night we opened we had like a three hour line out the

the scene of a major house fire in middletown this ended with a woman rescued by a 74- year old neighbor! crews responded to this home on victoria avenue around 12-thirty... finding the home fully engulfed. at some point... a neighbor saw what was happening, went inside and dragged a woman out.
