loans are in default. we investigate how this happened--and why the city has not acted to get those tax dollars back. investigative reporter jody barr is live in lawrenceburg tonight--and jody--how did these loans get in the shape they're in tonight? it's simple-- the city of lawrenceburg chose not to foreclose on some of these loans--and let 16 million dollars go uncollected. why? that's what we set out to answer. linkmeyer: "steve linkmeyer." barr: "hey, how are you?" this is a man with a 3 million dollar tax payer-backed loan. he's steve linkmeyer. he was supposed to turn this hill into a large development--but--s ix years later--this is it. city records show--linkmeyer's made 13 payments in the last six years. "i want to tell my story." linkmeyer rolled up on us last week--and told us

interview. but--the next day--linkmeyer and his attorney called--to decline. our investigation found--linkmeyer owes on another tax payer loan--a loan he got in 2008. that 250-thousand dollar loan went to build these storage buildings near his home. loan records show--he hasn't made a payment on this loan since june 2012. 'we're here to see mark bransbach--i'm jody barr with fox19." the owner of top quality building products has the second-highest loan--a loan technically in default. city records show mark bransbach took out a 1-point-5 million dollar loan--a loan that was supposed to have been paid off 5 years ago. we left a message for the owner two weeks ago--and again yesterday--but he never responded. barr: "we're looking for greg davis...oh, you're mel davis?" mel: "yeah." barr: "we're here to talk to him about the loan he's taken out from the city and has yet to repay them." the third highest- over due loan went to this man's son:
10:31 pm
owes the city nearly 2 million dollars--money he used to renovate this corner. city records show greg davis made 8 payments in the last 15 months. this man's mel davis--greg davis' father--who's also a lawrenceburg city councilman--and holds a seat on the city's loan committee. we were here to see his son greg--but mel davis came out. barr: "would he like to talk to us about why he hasn;t paid this loan off?" davis: "i doubt it." "it's to set a deadline--that says we expect to be paid and we need to be paid by this date." in december, city council paid this law firm 80- thousand dollars to investigate each loan--and what to do with them. the firm recommended--imme diate foreclosure on some--and default notices on most of the rest. two months later--the city's done nothing. barr: "why has that not happened 60 days later?" weldon: "i think it's going to happen...i think there's going to be a good plan and i think you'll be happy with it. i think everybody will." barr: "what is that plan? there doesn't seem to be a timeline, a deadline to
