brussels airport and subway system. john kerry said in a statement that the u.s. was working "to determine the status of all american citizens in embassy there telling americans to stay where they are and "take the appropriate steps to bolster your personal security." at least one of the attacks was believed to be caused by a suicide bomber, and belgium raised its terror alert to its highest level. rep. adam schiff, d-calif., the ranking member of the house intelligence committee, said the attacks "bear all the hallmarks" of an islamic state

multiple attacks at the airport in brussels may be in retaliation for a crackdown on a belgian terror cell. fox news correspondent doug luzader has the story from washington. on cam intro the challenge here is that we're still trying to figure out the scope of these attacks, but, it's clear now they were not confined to just the airport. nats: "..no luggage please. leave you luggage here." chaos at the the main airport in brussels following reports of at least two explosions there and multiple fatalities. gunfire and shouting in arabic. what appear to be ceiling tiles litter the floor -- and, stunned passengers were corralled both inside the airport and on the tarmac, but, it was clear what was happening. mos says "..i'm prior law enforcement, so, i know what a bomb is." and minutes later, reports of additional explosions in downtown brussels. all of this just days after the arrest in brussels of salah abdeslam, a key suspect in last year's terror attacks in paris that left one hundred thirty dead. gutman says "..that was another ambulance and it's headed the wrong way down a one way street."
