also, shoppers returned to the mall this holiday weekend after they were forced to take cover . patrick: let's check in with dale. a lot of folks have wanted that christmas weather and i guess it's just a little delayed until after the new year. dale: crazy pattern affecting the entire country. as you can see, fog is a big story this morning. this will last until noon to 1:00 across the region. we will get some showers. watch out there. anywhere from a half to maybe three quarters of an inch of rain this afternoon into the evening. about that much again tonight. flood watches have been issued for a good bit of the carolinas. right now, just seeing light rain. all the areas highlighted in green are under a flood watch. the areas in gray under a dense fog advisory.

story on air and online at wyff 4.com. myra: greenville county deputies hope you can help them find a missing man who suffers from alzheimer's and diabetes. 78-year-old doyle chism was last seen sunday afternoon leaving his home on green fern drive. he was last seen driving his 1995 ford f-150. it has a south carolina tag of aud 9-7-4. if you can help deputies locate chism, you are asked to call the sheriff's office. patrick: a reported car in an upstate river led to a search by a dive team late last night. dispatchers say someone reported seeing a car roll into the saluda river along holcombe drive near highway eight in greenville county, by the time dive teams were able to locate the car it had drifted into the west pelzer area. dive crews say the car was empty when they got to it. myra: we're getting our first look at four people facing charges following an amber alert in ashshille.

authorities issued the alert for elijah and harley joiner. police say about an hour later the boys were found safe. natasha cantrell and christopher carter of georgia, are both charged with abduction of children and kidnapping. chadwick agan, also of georgia, is charged with abduction, and another person, trena weaver, is charged with child abuse. investigators have not released any more information about the case. the spartanburg county coroner and cowpens police are investigating the death of a man who was found in a road behind a restaurant. investigators say someone found the man who was unresponsive in the road behind hardee's in cowpens sunday morning. the coroner says brent lee tesneer died at the hospital. he was from cowpens. he was 36 years old. the coroner is calling his death suspicious. a charlotte mall was back open saturday just two days after a fatal officer-involved shooting on christmas eve. thomas ferguson, an off-duty

officer, shot and killed 18-year-old daquan westbrook after police say he opened fire during a dispute with another group of men. security was extra tight at the northlake e ll and officials say it will remain that way. ferguson is on paid administrative leave as this investigation continues. patrick: if you thought the panthers wou run the table this season, you can blame the atlanta falcons for missing that up. we won't get into that. myra: arguably the play of the day. matt ryan goes deep to julio jones. a ridiculous catch. patrick: i would agree with the play of the day. myra: 70-yard touchdown. check out the replay. patrick: carolina suffers its first loss of the season. falcons win 20-13. myra: i know what you are doing silently inside.

what can we expect? dale: fog. it is going to be thick until 12:00, 1:00 today. dense fog advisories have been issued for the piedmont. if you are traveling down 25 or 385 426 or whatever, be prepared for some heavy fog. as we look out, we can see how it will be impacting travel. light rain in parts of the mountains of north carolina, south carolina, and northeastern georgia. we going to see more of that rain this afternoon, tonight, continuing tuesday, and wednesday. all part of this system marching across the southeast. we got a lot of rain. we've had over 6.5 inches of rain already this december. looks like another inch or more of rain in the next couple days. then it dries up for thursday, friday, and saturday.

patrick: covering south carolina. right now in greenville. the search continues for a hit and run driver who seriously injured a woman riding a moped. these are new photos of what troopers say the car should look like. it's thought to be a newer model ford focus or fusion possibly silver or grey. the accident happened saturday december 19 near the intersection of whitehorse and anderson roads. orange paint on the road marks the spot where a witness says the moped was crushed. we're told that the woman had a bad head injury. >> i saw her on the ground and when i knelt to her, i told her to stay calm, it was she started coughing up blood.

>> i really would like the people who are responsible to get caught and have justice applied to what they did. patrick: investigators have not released an update on how the victim is doing. once again troopers are looking for a newer ford focus or fusion thought to be grey or silver. you should call crimestoppers if you can help with this case. myra: the south carolina department of public safety is reminding motorists to slow down and move over for law enforcement, emergency workers and highway workers state law requires motorists to slow down and move over when they are passing the scene of an emergency on a highway. they also are required to move over when possible when passing temporary work zones. still to come. the libertarian party, finds a likely candidate. what he says he plans to disrupt, if he's elected. dale: give yourself a few extra minutes for travel today. it is going to be foggy.

dale: good morning. 5:15 the time. let's look at what the skycam is picking up. it is foggy. that is the story for the upstate and the mountains until noon or 1:00. we have dense fog advisories out for a good bit of the upstate and piedmont. the only rain we are seeing is along the north carolina-south carolina border. also in northeastern georgia. all this is working its way eastern. we will see an increase in the rain showers today, tonight, and the next couple days wet. fog is the story if you are traveling south on 3854 26 or 25. these areas in green are under flood watches. that's because already saturated ground with more rain on the way today and some heavy downpours

here's where the severe weather is breaking out right now in parts of louisiana and mississippi. tornado watches issued for that region because of the potential of severe weather being generated. we will get some of that heavier rain in our region tonight through tomorrow, even wednesday. so i know we've had enough rain. we've got a few more days to deal with it. mid-60's, upper 60's in the upstate. mid-50's in the mountains will reach into the mid-60's through the afternoon. average would be a cold morning and a high of 52. not today. it will be in the upper 60's for highs. still not record-breaking. the record in the mountains is 73. it was set back in 1889. average is 47. today, we will get up to 64. we are watching out in the

louisiana and mississippi for possible tornadoes. look at the snow being generated in parts of texas, oklahoma, kansas, all because of that cold weather behind that front, which will reach us this coming weekend. we are not worried about winter weather, just colder temperatures. here's our future plus. we are going to see some more rain early afternoon into the evening and heavier showers coming in tonight. we will see maybe half an inch of rain today, than three orders -- three quarters of an inch of rain. another inch or more of rain expected before this month comes to an end. asheville will reach 64. the upstate reaching upper 60's today. cooler thursday, especially by friday morning. new year's day, it will be 34 in the mountains, 41 in the upstate, and highs of just 44-52. you will need the coast this weekend.

daytime highs just in the 40's to 50 at best. myra: thank you. we are getting a better look at how the severe weather is affecting other parts of the world. in texas, the clean-up has just begun, where tornados killed at least 11 people, demolishing everything in their path. the governor declared a state of disaster in four counties along a 40 mile span of destruction. in ellis the wreckage of houses and vehicles litters the streets where family homes once stood. an e.f.-3 tornado reportedly touched down in rowlett injuring 23-people. in garland an e.f.-4 tornado with winds up to 200-miles-per-hour killed 11-people including a small child. authorities say about 600 structures have been destroyed. and further north, parts of missouri are in a state of emergency as well. severe weather and heavy rains have caused flooding throughout the region. six people have died after driving vehicles onto flooded roads.

and in south america, argentina, brazil and paraguay are seeing the worst flooding to hit there in decades. families across all three countries have been forced to evacuate homes. 7000 people from brazil alone were evacuated. el nino is being blamed for the heavy rainfall. across the pond, widespread flooding in england is forcing hundreds to evacuate their homes in the northern part of the country. more than 300 people have been asked to leave their homes in the york area about 200 miles north of london. the british government is even holding an emergency session on the flooding. back here in the states, oklahoma is dealing with storms of its own. not rain, but snow and ice. highways and bridges dangerously slick. crews spent the day salting roads and shutting down several highways. people were urged to stay off the streets. officials say distracted walking is to blame for a man's death in california.

distracted by his cell phone yesterday, he walked right off a cliff near san diego. three other people risked their lives to try to save him. they performed cpr but were unable to survive him -- to save him. patrick: a man is in jail this morning following a deadly shooting at a mall in michigan. authorities say a gunman fired several shots towards the mall's front entrance killing one person. the gunman was arrested shortly after. right now police investigate a possible motive. it is currently unclear what charges the man will face. myra: some described it as chaos, as police say two thousand teens started fighting inside of a mall in saint matthews, kentucky. the mall ended up closing early saturday night in order to get the crowds out. police said they really aren't sure what caused all the problems. they blamed it on kids being kids. no one was arrested and no

patrick: the presidential candidates took a break for the holidays, but things will likely start to heat up. we are just five weeks from the first primaries, beginning with iowa. there are still 13 candidates on the republican side of the race. in the latest poll out of iowa, donald trump and senator ted crzuuz are neck and neck. but it's not as close in new hampshire, where trump is in front by double digits. donald trump is now taking credit for the obama's administration's new plan to increase deportations. the republican presidential candidate says the move only came after he suggested deporting the more than 11 million undocumented immigrants currently living here in the u.s. the white house's new plan will reportedly begin next month and will focus on familes from central america. and democratic presidential candidate bernie sanders made the media rounds. he spent time talking about isis and the need for other countries to help the u.s. in its fight against terrorists.

>> a, it can not be the united states alone. b, what many people in the middle east understand, it must be the muslims themselves on the ground destroying isis. so what we need is, in fact, a coalition. saudi arabia, qatar are incredbly wealthy countries and they have got to start using some of their resources to help us destroy isis. patrick: senator sanders trails hillary clinton by double-digits in a recently-published cnn poll. it looks like john mcafee will be the libertarian party candidate for president. the 70-year-old cyber-security pioneer is known for his popular computer anti-virus software. he originally planned to run for the highest office under his own cyber party to, quote, disrupt the political status quo. but mcafee says a representative from the libertarian party contacted him about representing their party.

dale: good morning. coming up on 5:28. we are seeing some light rain. a little heavier in parts of western oconee county. more to come. the rain just doesn't want to quit. flood watch is issued for a good bit of western north carolina. the gray areas are fog advisories until 9:00 this morning.
