nigel: breaking news, greenville county deputies shooting. the shooting may have happened at a townhome on buttercup way in taylor's. for the latest, stay with wyff app. information as it comes in. gabrielle: breaking news out of greenville, a house fire may be the result of a hover board. that is according to neighbors who talked to sled. subdivision. neighbors say a hover board caught fire inside the house. if that is true, sled agents told neighbors this would be the in the state. stay with us on-air and on wyff4.com and our mobile app for more. to the weather, we sent sky 4 into the air this morning, to show us all of the flooding damage in our area. take a look at biltmore village

so much mud has collected in the parking lots. people are trying to push the mud out of the way. nigel: now, we're taking a live look outside at downtown spartanburg through our wofford sky cam. you can see blue skies right now in the air, and it is still warm out there for december. gabrielle: wyff news 4's meteorologist chris justus is in our studio tracking the latest. chris, any more rain on the way? chris: another round of heavy rainfall tomorrow, then it will clear out and roll down in time for the new year. the front towards columbia, it moves further south. we will see more rain along the front into our area tonight and into tomorrow. take a look at the storm reports. i gave you across theory of. wind damage and lighting. towards charlotte, a tornado report. check out this video. pretty intense towards union county near monroe. this is south of charlotte. you can see the damage from the tornado there in union county. evil cleaning up this morning,

the tornado was 75 yards wide and on the ground for under a mile. the biggest concern at home will be the flood watch in effect and -- until thursday at 7:00 a.m. more flooding is likely. on the future plus, we will see clouds increase throughout the evening and overnight. sprinkles begin to show up on radar by 3:30. tomorrow morning, when you are heading to work, possibly heavy showers. the heaviest rain arrives tomorrow afternoon. epic rain and rising water caused problems all over the landrum area. that's where we find wyff news 4's mandy gaither. she joins us live and local with the latest there. mandy? mandy: what a difference a few hours makes. i want to show you a picture from earlier this morning of the piece of property i am standing on at caroland farm.

in floodwaters, three feet deep in some areas. check it out now. the water is now all gone, but it has left behind a muddy mess. there's still plenty of water left behind. caroland farm manager matt rainey says the pacolet river has been high the past couple of weeks, but this morning, he says the water started coming over banks, spilling onto the land around it. thankfully, all of the farm's cattle were moved to safety. so far, it doesn't look like any equipment was damaged, either, but it'll take time to know how the crops here were affected. >> not really sure what kind of damage we're going to have here, but like i said before, it's pretty minor here compared to the issues columbia dealt with. it's not my house. nobody's hurt. nobody's dead. it's farming. we will move on. mandy: a portion of highway 14 had to be closed because of the flooding, but crews worked to

now, bracing for another round of expected rain. we've seen a lot of water on other properties this area as well today, but it all seems that all of the water is no receding there, as well. mandy gaither, wyff news 4, live in landrum. nigel: flooding, power outages, and multiple rescues. barricades will remain up in asheville after heavy flooding, firefighters had to save a family in a minivan, after the swannanoa river road flooded. they were able to throw the family life jackets, and help them to safety, it wasn't the only road there to flood. sweeten creek road, part of lyman street, and dupree circle among others also flooded. we talked to one man, saved from his mobile home park by boat. >> the fire department and city of asheville came out, and got me out on a raft boat. they came around and put a

out, no problem at all. nigel: the asheville fire department says they put up eric cates because even though the , -- they put up barricades because even though the water has receded, more issues are expected. gabrielle: this morning, the skies cleared, and we were able to send sky 4 into the air to give you look at the different view of the flooding. in the bright sunshine, you can see people cleaning up after mother nature's big beating up. in biltmore village in asheville, they're trying to push all of this mud that's collected in parking lots, out of the way. a wider shot shows many of these parking lots are empty of people, but some cars have been left behind. the john b lewis soccer complex on azalea road is flooded in some spots, and there is a muddy mess next to this nearby business. also in buncombe county, a portion of this railroad track, along highway 70 in swannanoa, is closed off. take a look. a big chunk of land crumbled, leaving a hole under the track. this wide shot of the asheville

french broad river stands. it's even spilled over in some places. and as sky 4 brings us south to landrum, we get another view of caroland farms on north pacolet road. through the fog, we can see the pastures are empty of cows, but filled with water. that's because workers had to move the cows to higher ground as the water here continued to rise. now, the hope is that the sunshine will stick around and help dry things up. as we saw from mandy's report, the flooding in landrum has if you have pictures of floodi in your area, go ahead and share them with us. you can upload your photos or videos to the ulocal section of wyff4.com. nigel: the identities of three people found dead after a house fire in mcdowell county have still not been confirmed. the fire happened on white pine drive on december 23rd. investigators believe heather stagg, her husband, michael, and their five-year-old son, samuel, died in the fire. but because of the condition of

able to confirm the identities during recent autopsies. more testing is being done. the cause of the fire is under investigation. gabrielle: greenville police are releasing surveillance pictures of a man they say robbed the spinx on east washington street yesterday morning. police say this man came into the store around 1:45 in the morning. they say he wore all black, with a camouflage handkerchief over his face. police say he demanded the money from the register, and was armed. know anything that can help call , crime stoppers at 864-23-crime. nigel: in greenwood county, authorities there have seized hundreds of name brand knock-off items during a raid just before christmas. police say the items are worth thousands of dollars. demetrius andrews has been charged with counterfeiting. authorities believed the shop "t-shirts and accessories" on milwee avenue was selling the knock-off items. it was raided on the 23rd. a number of items at andrews' home were also taken by officers.

authorities say escaped from prison almost 30 years ago has been arrested in horry county. officers say james edward coe escaped from prison on june 23rd, 1986. on sunday, police say he was caught shoplifting at hudson's flea market in surfside. the owner of the flea market says coe walked away from the shop without paying for a piece of jewelry. coe is being held with no bond . he was originally set to be released from prison in 1989. nigel: the clemson tigers continue their preps for the orange bowl. gabrielle: and today, the players and coaches met with our wyff news 4 sports department. wyff news 4 sports director brad fralick joins us now, live in south florida. he has more run with what the tigers are up to. did you have to stand in front of the pool, brad? way to show off. brad: we always have to stand in front of the pool. we act like south floridians for a few days.

it was an hour-long super bowl style do. we had full access to every clemson player along with dabo's cameras and reporters were everywhere. we had a full hour to basically walk around and ask any player any question we wanted to. of course, much of the attention was on the head coaches, and dabo swinney said as much as he has tried to keep the game prep as normal as possible, walking into that environment made it anything but>> today is thursday for us. a team thursday, and that just helps our guys mentally stay in the same cycle as far as preparation. but all the rest, this isn't our normal game week. normally on a thursday, we might have three media guys running around. this was different. >> there was anticipation of another game. it seems different. it may not be the end. that is out there.

the country last month after he video surfaced showing an apparent probation violation. the mother and son will return to the u.s. tomorrow. nigel: the chicago police officer charged with murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old laquan mcdonald appeared in court today. jason van dyke is out of jail on bond. he pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and misconduct charges at his arraignment. he faces charges of first-degree murder, and one of official misconduct. this is related to the october 2014 shooting that was captured on police dashboard camera video. the massive storm system that pounded the nation's midsection continues to cause havoc. gabrielle: today, it arrived in the northeast, with snow, fog, and rain. nbc's chris pollone has more. chris: no snow today in new york city, but sleet, fog, and rain were enough to cause cancellations and delays at the city's three major airports. >> it's just frustrating. i've been in new yoyo for 12 years now. i hate to say it, but it's kind of par for the course every time there is bad weather.

across the north and east caused a ripple effect for air travelers throughout the country, with places like boston, chicago, and new york leading the list of cancellations and delays. >> it's been a very tedious process. it's been stressful. chris: the snow and ice in the northeast come from the same system which tore through the nation's midsection over the weekend, spawning tornadoes and floods, and leaving at least 43 people dead. it made driving treacherous in upstate new york and throughout new england, and dumped the first snow of the season on massachusetts, just days after it saw record high temperatures. >> i was sweating last week. come outside, beautiful. good for the holidays. then, all of a sudden, big change. i think winter is here, finally. chris: last winter saw the most snow ever recorded in boston, leaving people there wondering if a repeat lies ahead. chris pollone, nbc news, new york. >> now, your live super doppler

chris: check out this wofford college time lapse. we started the day with clouds gloomy start. look what happens. the sun came out and it was a gorgeous day. that is where we stand right now. the flood has pushed towards colombia, leaving us on the dry side. unfortunately, the front pushed -- didn't push far enough south. it stalled out. a piece of opera local energy will -- upper-level energy will give us heavy rainfall late tonight into tomorrow. another injured brain possible across the area. you can see on the radar, we are dry. saturated ground means we could have more flooding. the national weather service issued a flash, or a flood watch for the entire area going until 7:00 a.m. on thursday. some areas, like hendersonville, already have a flood warning. the french broad river towards the bear creek river already high.

1:00 a.m. for those people. as we see more rain, we will likely have more flfld warnings. taking a look at temperatures, very warm the further south you go. 80 degrees in elberton, 79. 79 in greenwood. 69 in greenwood -- in greenville. overnight, clouds will incrcrse. will be cooler than we have been dealing with. near 60 in the upstate, upper 50's in the mountains. tomorrow morning. that is where we start tomorrow. showers, possible at any time throughout the day. it will be heavy rainfall from time to time. in spartanburg, temperatures start off at 57. thunder possible by the afternoon. temperature is warm enough to support that. in anderson, 50 nine, warming into the upper 60's with rain and possibly thunderstorms. in asheville, rain in the morning, rain in the afternoon with a high music's temperatures tomorrow, warm.

the mountains will cool off tomorrow, all of us will cool off thursday. rain area-wide, 60's in the mountains, nearly 70 in the upstate. nationally, we have the front that moved through our area. it looks more came across the nation, but cloud cover. upper-level energy leases will move through along the front and give us more rainfall. things will look a bit more active this time tomorrow. cold air still bottling up towards the west. in the teens for the dakotas. 80's towards flflida. that will change. widespread cold outbreak moving in as we head into the weekend. the future plus. of a few hours. the front reignites with south. it will send it our way. the heaviest rain arrives tomorrow. it will rain into the afternoon. some of the showers will be heavy at times.

finally dry out on thursday. partly cloudy skies thursday afternoon, but the front doesn't go very far south. what does that leave us with? thankfully, the front is south of us, so we will be dry o o friday. but we may have cloudy skies. that changes over the weekend. loads of sunshine and dry conditions. he will see more rainfall here, three quarters of an inch in greenville. the further south you go, about an inch to an inch and a half. the e g clemson game in oklahoma , kickoff is 4:00 on thursday in miami. look for 80's for that game. it will be hot and sunny with a breeze. the for-day plus, 100% chance of rain tomorrow, 63 on thursday. cloudy on new year's day, then the sunshine comes out and it will be cold this weekend. highs in the 40's in the upstate. reason the north carolina mountains. it stays chilly going into next weekend. congratulations to our umbrella

gabrielle: thanks, chris. before clemson and oklahoma hit the field, good year took a college football tradition to new heights. yesterday in pompano beach, it is sped up, evevecooler. the goodyear tire & rubber company set the guinness world record for the world's largest game of cornhole. it kicked off a week of celebration leading up to the alabama-michigan state showdown in arlington, texas. nigel: is that the blimp? gabrielle: they are throwing it from the blimp and playing -- the playing surface of this cornhole game measured 64 feet by 32 feet. >> it was awesome. it ended up in a tie, so it's up to the players to win the game. it was such an awesome experience. i get to check it off the bucket list. gabrielle: the players included cheerleaders from michigan state university and the university of alabama. they flew up more than 200 feet above the massive cornhole game board, and tossed beanbags out of the goodyear "wingfoot one."
