badly, she got a concussion and bruising around the neck. it happened november 16th, within the oak hill subdivision. officer kristin brady saw a man wearing a black hoodie, black gloves, with a black skeleton mask. anderson police chief jim stewart says the officer got out of her patrol car, but before she could radio in, he says the suspect rushed at her, knocking the officer to the ground, forcefully trying to get the gun out of the officer's holster. when he couldn't, stewart says the suspect pulled out a knife, but the officer fought him off before running into the woods. stewart says this is one of those cases that haunt him. >> we have 140 officers at this agency. we have 102 on the road, and 38 within our detention center. at times, i feel like i have 139 kids down here, and i take it personal. mandy: two suspects were arrested that night at their near apartment on miracle mile drive. kristi hendrix and bryan gary are facing drug charges, but the

scene, and he says if they weren't involved, they have information -- they may have information on the case. that's where the public's help comes in. anyone with information is asked to call crimestoppers at 888-crime-sc. there is a $1,000 reward being offered. coming up at 6:00, the one thing that may have saved this officer's life. mandy gaither, wyff news 4, live in the anderson newsroom. nigel: mandy, thank you. police in south carolina say a medal of honor recipient with south carolina ties faces a hit-and-run charge. police say kyle carpenter is charged with hit and run and making an improper left turn. according to a news release, carpenter is out on bond. police say carpenter hit a pedestrian earlier this month. authorities say the person was treated at the scene for scrapes and a leg injury. carpenter received the medal of honor in 2014, for his actions as a marare in afghanistan in 2010. gabrielle: we have an update tonight, one of three suspects, connected to the death of a

faces more charges. larry taylor, jr. is connected to the death of amanda blackburn. blackburn was married to former new spring youth pastor davey blackburn. the murder happened in indianapolis. nbc reports, taylor faces charges in an unsolved murder of a man sho. over $10 on november 4th. blackburn was killed after a burglary. officials say her death was part of a crime spree that started back on november 3. nigel: police are investigating a trailer full of tools stolen from an office on green avenue, right outside of downtown greenville. but as you are about to see, this was more than just a theft. here is the problem. can't see it exactly? >> came in wednesday morning, and it's gone. all we can find left is the remnants of it, sitting right over here. nigel: a trailer full of supplies. here is a picture of what was taken. chris manley runs rebuild upstate, which helps low-income homeowners in oconee, pickens, anderson, and greenville counties. >> to us, it's not just a trailer. the trailer is

our tools that are inside. it's the majority of tools that we use on work sites, repairing roofs, repairing floors, building handicap-accessible ramps for people in the community who have needs. nigel: around $4,000 worth of supplies, stolen. >> everything from cordless drills, circular saws, miter saws. really, any type of construction tool that you need. nigel: even basic hammers and nails, making this theft even worse. >> we are a 501c3 nonprofit organization. nigel: police are searching, not just for the trailer, but also combing pawn shops for any of the items that were taken. meanwhile, manly says they are trying to figure out ways to still provide services for those who depend on them. >> because january is a big month for us. we have a lot of projects coming up in january, really, starting within the next few weeks, that we are going to be working in people's homes, and we don't have all the tools we need to do that now. nigel: some of their volunteers

they will use their own tools so work can get done. police, as of now, don't have any leads. gabrielle: now to spartanburg county, where right now, a pothole is og drivers hundreds of dollars. road crews say they're having a tough time keeping up with repairs. wyff news 4's corey davis ports. corey: several cars have been damaged here on anderson mill road. this is the hubcap that was once on this vehicle. that impact has caused flat tires, and sent hubcaps flying off in front of the londonderry subdivision. >> when you hit it, you don't really know what happened. corey: brandon lee drove over the pothole wednesday night. >> it was really loud, and you just don't know what you went over. corey: his honda civic is now sitting at the mechanic, in line for repairs. >> the rim was cracked, the tire is destroyed, and it also caused damage to the front brakes. it's going to need new rotors, and an alignment. corey: those damages will cost more than $700. many others are in the same

that pothole. >> my daughter, last night she was driving along, and then the pothole that was fixed the day before, evidently got washed out, and the tire was popped. corey: a road crew told us they filled the pothole four times this week. our camera was rolling when they showed up thursday, but the fix didn't last long. the hole started to reopen up within minutes. a maintenance manager with the department of transportation says the heavy rain is making it hard for them to keep up. right now, brandon's mom, brenda lee, is working to file a claim with the department of transportation, to be paid back after repairs are made. >> hopefully, they're going to pay for it, because it's not my responsibility. corey: lee says the pothole has become a safety issue in the area. >> i think that they could have maybe put up signage, just to alert other drivers that that pothole is there. corey: corey davis, wyff news 4, in spartanburg county. nigel: coming up, major cities across the u.s. are

8, 5. gabrielle: stock market news, u.s. markets finished in the red. the dow was down, the s&p was down 1.7%. it was the worst year for those indexes since 2008. the nasdaq finished 2015 up 5.7% . however, it had double-digit gains in the three previous years. nigel: belgian authorities today announced the arrest of a tenth person in connection with last month's attacks in paris. they said six others have been detained for questioning, over a

attacks in brussels during the holidays. law enforcement officials said there is no known connection between the two investigations. authorities said a belgian national, identified only as ayoub b., has been charged with terrorist murder, and participation in the activities of a terrorist group. gabrielle: president obama is expected to announce a new executive order on gun control. white house sources say the goal is to close the so-called "gun show loophole," which allows certain gun sellers to skip background checks on buyers. the measure is also expected to provide funding for local law enforcement to enforce existing gun laws. the president is expected to reveal the plan during his state of the union address. nigel: keeping revelers safe, from new york city to europe law enforcement is beefing up security. gabrie aixa diaz has more. aixa: a 25-year-old u.s. citizen is accused of pledging police

this is an hd look at the temperatures. this is pretty accurate, from haywood county, madison county, buncombe county down the french broad river valley. starting to see cold temperatures spill down. the 60's will quickly turn into 40's tonight. it will be a cool weekend. low temperatures tonight around freezing for the north carolina mountains. 40's, the coldest air we have had in two weeks. tomorrow, clouds, pretty thick throughout the day. we start off at 46, and only rise a few degrees through the day. only a spread of nine degrees. usually, we start cold and warm up in the afternoon. not tomorrow. we will top out in the 50's in the upstate. the high temperature tomorrow in the mountains will be sometime around noon. it will get colder as the day goes on. 38 degrees by 4:00 p.m. tomorrow in asheville. nationally, look at the southeast. there is a pesky front that does not want to move out of the area.

we will get upper-level energy to kick all this activity and out. dry air will come in. and colder air. much of the country, except for the southeast, cold. the latest computer models showing 60's and 70's, they wither away with this model by saturday. we will start off in the 30's, warming up into the 40's. sunday will be cold as well. this, before another blast of cool air work seen. towards the northeast, colder air spills in from monday until tuesday, when we start off in the 20, typical for this time of year. look at what is building towards the west. while we stay cool, even colder air is building. this is a case we will see. this is next thursday. the sixth, seventh, around there, after that we will look for the cold air by the middle of january and it will certainly be around.

alcohol-related illnesses and injuries. so doctors at vanderbilt university have some reminders for you. before you head out to celebrate, make sure you have a designated driver who will not drink at all. and if you're hosting a party, keep an eye on your friends. don't let them leave if they're intoxicated. and another reminder from doctors, holiday beverages may be packed with calories. experts say it would take 35 minutes of racquetball to burn the more than 400 calories in one margarita. and even if you stay away from alcoholic beverages, you would need 45 minutes of moderate intensity exercise to compensate for a medium peppermint mocha drink. a glass of champagne has 120 calories, a 5-ounce glass of wine has 125 calories, and a beer has 155 calories. according to the "today" show, women's health magazine says in 2016, it's banning two phrases from its covers. the magazine's editor says they'll never feature the phrases "bikini body" or "drop two sizes" on the cover again.
